PO vs Poly

I was wondering if I could get some advice from some people who have stayed at the Mods and Poly,
Last year we stayed at POR and really enjoyed it, so this year
I got the 40% off code for Poly in Sept 2-9 for $2800
Which is great but now I am thinking of free dining is coming out than we could get a moderate resort for about $1700 with dining...
I know Poly for that price is good, But was wondering, is it still worth the extra money over the Mod??
My DH thinks Poly is expensive even with the Discount, But I think maybe the experience would be worth it, and I would never pay rack rate for it so maybe I should stick with it while I have a discount..
I keep going back and forth on this....
Any advice??

We are in the same boat. I've got a thread going right now discussing our situation. We've ran into some unexpected expenses, one that we knew we'd have to fix, the AC unit. Then this morning DH's truck wouldn't go into reverse.:sad2: Anyway we also received the code and got a great rate @ Poly but the savings going down to a moderate are worth more to us. I haven't mustered up the courage to downgrade yet. The savings are very tempting, however. Good luck.

We have stayed at both the Poly and Port Orleans Riverside. Poly in '05 and POR in '06. We absolutely LOVED the Poly. LOVED IT!! We enjoyed POR, but we missed being at the Poly greatly.

We are a family of 5. Kids ages are 10, 8, and 3.

First off, there is a HUGE difference in room size. The Poly had MUCH more room. That made a big difference to us.

The convenience of the monorail was a huge plus of the Poly as well. While we never had to wait long for a bus while we were AT POR, returning back to the resort after one of the parks closed was another thing. There were times when we would have to wait for a couple of busses to come and go before we were able to get on. With the resort (POR) being so large, there were always a lot of people going back there at park closing. We never had that problem at the Poly.

We thought the grounds at POR was very nice. We enjoyed walking around. But the Poly was extra special. Made you feel like you were on a tropical vacation. And there were a couple of nights we would walk out on the beach and watch Wishes from the beach.

For our family.....we would return to the Poly in a heartbeat.

We have stayed at POR and the Poly.

I would save the $1100...that is a lot of money and spend it on food/souveniers/renting boats etc.

I love the deluxes...always have...but POR for 2 people is perfect. You don't need the bigger room or to be on the monorail...you are still at WDW having a blast in a great super-themed resort.

One of the biggest reasons we bought DVC was the rising prices of staying in deluxe. We are using points to stay at the Poly this year.

you won't feel jipped....if saving the money is important then go for it.

ps...nice name :)

Thanks for the advice..

Maybe I will consider a split stay..

My DH isn't to concerned, he will be happy either way.. I'm more worried I will regret the change..

I guess I have a couple days untill free dining is offered officially to decide..

DH and I stayed in POR before kids (it was Dixie Landings back then). We loved it. Everything was perfect. Now that we have 3 kids, we moved to the Polynesian for the larger room and Monorail and proximity to MK and Epcot, which makes going back to the hotel during the afternoon much simpler. We love the Poly, too.

But if we didn't have kids, we would certainly save the money and stay at POR. You'll probably be in the parks most of the time, so the amenities at the Poly wouldn't be that important to you (I'm just assuming that).

The theming, landscaping, and atmosphere at POR are all top notch. The price is much more attractive. You also might one day find that you need the Poly for its convenience, room size, and other great things, but if you don't really need them and if POR was nice before, why not just stay there? I would personally prefer the extra money to spend on other great stuff. Good discounts come out all the time, so the idea that you'll never get another 40% off code isn't necessarily true, and I certainly wouldn't plan my whole vacation about that possibility, either.

Whichever way you go, remember you'll be at Disney and you'll have a fabulous time.

I am struggling with the same thing! I keep going back and forth. :confused3

You didn't say how many of you will be in the room. If its 2 or 3, and maybe even 4, I would almost certainly go with POR. Our problem is that we are a family of 5, and my husband and I are used to sleeping in a King bed. Dropping down to a Double, with no option of moving to seperate bed since all beds will be occupied by the kids, does not sound like much of a vacation for us.

So, the main reason keeping me with Poly and the higher cost is the room and bed size for our family of 5. From what I've heard we could be just as happy otherwise. The other reason is we figure we have a the dining free this time. Another time we may want to go and not have any discount....at that time we would try the less expensive POR.:)

I keep going back and forth on this....
Any advice??

This is sooo subjective to the individual. I mean, really, does it mean anything to you personally to stay at the Polynesian? It does to me, so many family memories and all that from 30 years and on. Now we've got nearly 6 years of our own children going (their 1st time was in 2001) there and it's meaningful to them. So if it means parting with $1K to stay there it's not a debate.

OTOH, if you're like my dad was, army type even through his business years, he'd pitch a tent somewhere between the GF and the MK and explain to us how happy we should be that there's plenty of alligators to eat if we get hungry. Fortunately we were able to talk him into a hotel and back then, it was the Contemporary or Polynesian.

The hotel/room just doesn't mean the same to different people and different vacationing styles. For the go-all-day-and-nighter, the AS rooms are just fine. If you're into hanging out at the resort and soaking in the ambience, the Polynesian and other Deluxe hotels are wonderful.

We're the latter. We'll spend entire days at Stormalong Bay or do resort/out of park activities. It's money well spent for our style of vacation.

But if you don't think you'll take advantage of any of the facilities, why pay the money? You're at Disney, you're going to love it regardless.

Thanks all..

I have decided if(or when) Free dining comes out I am going to swtich the first four nights to a mod resort (Probably POR or POFQ so we can have the boat downtown) and than spend the last 3 nights at Poly..
Me and DH are both really happy with this, Me because I still get to stay at the Poly for part of the trip and DH because it saves about 550 US dollars...
