Why doesn't Caillou have any hair?

There was a thread about this years ago, and my DH has the same answer as he did back then. He says Caillou has terminal cancer.

All I know is that I was hoping for the narrator to one day say "Caillou's mother was tired of the unsufferable whining and smacked the snot out of Caillou"

I hate Caillou the cartoon gets on my last nerve. He is the whiniest brat I have ever seen.

This was on another board, and the creators didn't give him hair so all children of any hair color could relate to him better. :confused3 Sounds like someone had one too many Child Psyc classes to me...

Of course his lack of hair doesn't bother me, it's his voice! I'd rather hear nails on a chalkboard!!!:scared1:

I rewrote his theme song.

"I'm just a whiny brat.
What do you think of that?
Nobody whiles just like Calliou.
Parents all hate me so.
They think it's wrong, you know.
Still, no one whines just like Calliou."

On another thread, someone said that Calliou meant "little baldy." Someone else said it didn't.

I agree as does DH I HATE HATE this show-but DD4 loves him-So we Tivo it but I have taken to pointing out his bad behaviors to Ava...teehee and I ask her if that is the right way to act. Kinda sneaky I know but I really dislike Caillou.

I don't think that is what the creators had in mind.

Yeah his whiney voice bothers me too. Unfortunately, it's my 2yos favorite show right now. And for awhile it was my 6yos favorite show. :headache: I've noticed though with these new shows the opening credits have changed. It used to show Caillou throwing a fit when he sang "except when I've had enough". They took that part out now. :rotfl:

Well that explains why his parents allow him to behave so horribly.

But what about Rosie? Are there blonde little sisters all over the world lamenting that Rosie doesn't look like them?

The whole family has hair, except Caillou, and no one ever mentions it. That's creepy.

On a sad note, the actor who voiced Caillou died a few years ago. I wonder if they stopped making new episodes then.

I heard the same thing. I have a friend who googled the subject. The creator (a Canadian child psychologist) made him that way so more kids could relate to him (but he is still white :confused3 ).

She also had the kids she saw in therapy pay her with pellets. The world for pellet in French is Calliou. I heard this didn't actually go over to well with people who understand French. Calling a kid after a pellet.

Anyway this is all 2nd hand info for me, so I may or may not have gotten it right. :rolleyes1 Especially the part about the name.

We are watching it right now on Spout. I didn't even know I had this cannel until last week. We are pretty geeked about it. Calliou does whine a lot, but I think it is a good show. It does a great job at preparing kids for things.

I'm just a kid who's four
each day I whine some more

I am SO happy my kids are past watching it. Yes, it did teach some valuable lessons, but having to hear that whining was sooo annoying. I had visions of the parents knocking back some serious alcohol after putting the kids to sleep at night.

The most redeeming quality of the show is that the narrator sounded a lot like Diane Rehm, an NPR talk show host.

How old is Calliou? If he is like me, I was bald until I was 3 years old. Well, I did have some fuss.

ITA!!!! When DS was little, we watched Caillou once and after that, I would never allow DS to watch it again b/c Caillou was so freaking whiney!!!!

I think he has no hair b/c he is whiney ... or maybe he is whiney b/c he has no hair. You be the judge!

:lmao:

okay I didn't want to say it, but since you said it first...my DH said the same thing one day while DD was watching Caillou. We all hate that show, but she loves it. I've never watched a full episode b/c I can't stand his whiney voice.

If anyone wanted to torture me psychologically, just stick me under a hot lamp and speak in that voice for a couple hours; I'll break!

I was grateful when they ditched the "Caillou Dancers". My kids hated that part and the dancers were just too hammy, the choreography to literal, and the costumes were awful. It seems that they have kept the songs but edited the animation into montages. I agree that Caillou's voice is likely to induce rage. Even on their worst days my girls aren't that whiny.
