Staying in the cabins

I need a little information on the cabins. We have always stayed at the CBR, but since my boys are getting older and want a bed of their own, we either were going to get 2 adjoining rooms at CBR or try the cabins. I believe we are leaning towards the cabins since they sleep 6, and even better, they have kitchens and charcoal grills. Any advice or information would be helpful. We have looked at the trip planning video from Disney, but there was not much info on the disk pertaining to the cabins.

Well.. I didn't care at all for the cabins.. I felt too closed in.. plus the transportation system.. to get here to there .. its like you have to take an internal bus to get to the regular bus system.. it just wasn't for me.. I said I would have to stay at a resort or I would stay off property.. I just like the resorts much better.. but if you are into the camping thing... you might love it!

We stayed at the cabins and although I loved them, the internal busing system was horrible. You waited forever for a bus. Are you renting a car?

I just took my DS and friend with us to CSR. We brought an air mattress wit us and they each took a turn every other night using it. I know,,,,when they get older they don't even want their feet to touch each other.

The air mattress worked wonderful....Spent 3 days at CSR and balance of trip at Swan.

Now here it was interesting... the beds which are queens and not doubles like you get at the moderates are so comfortable that the boys actually slept together ...but of course with pillows between them.. They couldn't give up sleeping in such a nice bed.

Try the dolphin or Swan..room sizes much bigger than moderates and still bring an air mattress with you. I find the aerobed the most convenient and most comfortable. Housekeeping is great about bringing exra blankets, sheets

I can totally agree with you on CBR too... We did that once... the 7 stops before you leave the resort... drives me crazy.. although I think the place is most beautiful!!!!!!!!!! The food court is great! If you have a car.. you will be fine!

Here is a great link that has a lot of info about the cabins, and there are also photos of the cabins and campground. We are a family of 5, and we have stayed there several times. We personally love the peacefulness of the cabins and Fort Wilderness. Transportation is a little bit "iffy", but we usually drive our own vehicle while we are there.

Golf carts are over $35 a day...you are better off to rent a car

ITA! The golf cart is the way to go when at the cabins! This made our stays so much more wonderful,especially for extra magic mornings.
It's really nice if you decide to take the kids to the pool at night then before
fire works at MK, take them in the golf cart to the beach and watch the great light show and the water parade on the beach. Just make certain to keep a towel in the cart in a plastic bag, so if it rains you can wipe the seats dry.
The deck outside your front door and the back bedroom is especially nice at night. Make certain to take plenty of quarters if you need to do any laundry.
Some people don't like this, but the laundry is right next to the pools so you can wash while they play, and don't have to pack so many clothes!~

We love the cabins! We did not use a golf cart-- we were within walking distance to the external (Epcot/AK) bus and also to the internal bus for MK/MGM. We did use our car for evening dining reservations; with 2 teenage girls, it was much more time efficient than trying to make multiple connections to AKL or walk (which was the original plan) to WL--you know--shower, blow dry, 3 outfit changes ( oh--that was me!!)

we LOVED the cabins.. But we rented the cart for the week. Without the cart, we would not have been happy..

The actually buses to and from there were great.. I know waiting for the internal loops is slow, but again the cart was wonderful

Can't say enough good things about the cabins..

Hi!

I just started working at Disney...and have had 2 sets of friends/family come down and stay in the cabins. The both LOVED them! The cabins are not huge, but are bigger than the typical hotel room. It's nice to have a separate, closed off room in the back. The kitchens have been very clean (with pots and pans, silverware, cups, plates, etc provided) and it was nice to have a fridge, microwave, and oven!

I think the best part, though, was feeling like we had a "house" rather than a "room." It was nice to not have to worry about neighbors pounding on your shared wall!

Also, when we came home at night we saw armadillos and rabbits! It was very peaceful overall. Good luck with your choice!

We stayed in the cabins once and it was great. We loved it there! Yes, it will take FOREVER to get to the parks (or so it seems). We were there in January when it wasn't crowded and I timed it to the MK. It took 1 hour from the time we walked out the cabin door, until the time we got to the security line at MK. We did NOT have a golf cart.

When I went off on my own with my little kids, we used the WDW transportation only and it took a long time to get to the parks. Also, the teens in the family took the WDW transportation. But when my dh was with us, we drove our car...much faster!

We drove to Orlando and I packed the car with food. So, all the food was brought from home. It was nice having a "real" breakfast in the cabin before heading out to the parks. And it was great having some good snacks in the evening.

If you do get a cabin, you will love it. Request a room that is just a couple in from the main road. I had so many people on the DIS board tell me to do that, and I didn't. We had the very last cabin in the loop and with the little kids (and no stroller), it was a LOOOOONG walk to the bus stop. I had to end up taking turns carrying all the little children on my back.

We stayed in the cabins in 2004 and loved them. There are five of us so the kids slept in the room and my husband and I slept on the murphy bed. We drove, so we brought food and also our bikes. Most of the bus stops were close enough to walk to, I believe the DD bus we rode our bikes to. We stayed on the 2100 loop which was quiet and central to most things. We enjoyed the boat rides to the MK. Hope this helps!

I appreciate all of the information. We are not coming down again until 2009, but I like to plan ahead due to work scheduling...have to plan at least 1 year in advance. We will be driving down and renting a golf cart does not sound so bad. Thanks again.

I also stayed in the cabins--Our family loved them. It saved on food--we had sandwiches and chips for lunch--oatmeal, eggs, toast for breakfast--plenty of snacks, soft drinks and bottled water (bought on our 30 minute grocery stop on our way from the airport.) Then we splurged on a great dinner.

We had 2 teens and a 24 year old with us and they were able to go off together occasionally. We had no transportation problems. Just a great time!

We stayed in the cabins and loved it. There were 6 of us (our family of 4, MIL and FIL) and we did not feel cramped at all. We also had a cart to get around.
