Make A Wish

Does anyone know where the Make A Wish Foundation makes room reservations for someone?

We have friends whose son (12yrs), has a brain tumor, and has just been granted his wish to go to DW, but he didn't know where they were staying. He didn't think it was the regular resorts. So... I told him I would ask on the Disboards.

I have a nephew that was sent to WDW thru Make a Wish- They stayed at a place called "Give Kids the World". Not a Disney hotel, but they loved it. It was more central to all the Orlando attractions as they sent them to Sea World and Universal also. I hope he enjoys his trip as much as my nephew, and that good things happen for him and his family.

Most likely the local Make-a-Wish chapter will arrange for the family to stay at "Give Kids the World" in Kissimmee - http://www.gktw.org/.

Also known as the "Wish Village" this place is almost as magical as Walt Disney World!

As the father of a child who was granted a Wish Trip to Disney World several years ago I can tell you that Make-a-Wish, Give Kids the World and Disney all work together to provide a genuinely special vacation.

Most of the time, they will be at GKTW - I volunteer there and kids LOVE the village! Especially all the ice cream they can get.

GKTW is amazing - and if you have a chance, look up Henri Landwirth, the founder of GKTW, online. He's one of those people that once you meet, you never forget (I admire him SO much). He survived the concentration camps, much of his family didn't. He came to the US, did well, wanted to give back and started GKTW. He has recently started a couple of other organizations as well.

They also have a growing legion of "visiting volunteers". If you are at Disney and want to drive over and volunteer for part of a day, you can do that.

This is so good to know, I was just reading about Mr. Landwirth on the website, sounds like he is an astounding man.

Our friends aren't scheduled to go till October 10th, and our trip is scheduled for Sept. After reading about volunteering for a day, I think my hubby and are considering doing just that.
