Is there a waiting list if a Resort you want to stay at is sold out?

I was wondering does WDW have a waiting list if a Resort is sold out and if someone cancels a reservation a person on that list can get the reservation? Or is there no list and if you want to stay at a specifc Resort you have to call everyday and hope for a cancellation?

DVC resorts through MS has a wait list.

CRO (WDW resorts) does NOT - so you have to kept trying.

Calling at the 45 day mark, when final payments are due for packages, is probably the best time to call.

I think it might just be luck,as to when you call.I have been waiting for a room at one hotel ,which they did not have when I called so I booked another hotel and kept calling back and finally after months the hotel in which I wanted finally open up so I was able to switch.

The way you explained it I can see how that would cause such a mess of things.

When I told one of my College professors (who also happens to be travel councilor) when my Dad could not get the Atrium Club for this December she asked me if my Dad requested to put our names on a list? I told her he was never asked that by the CRO Cast Member, so I guess my professor has not been updated that there is no longer a waiting list for the regular WDW Resorts.

Although I do think it's weird that some Resort like the Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club and eventually the Animal Kingdom Lodge would not have a wait list since the DVC rooms would have one since they are DVC Resorts in the same Hotel.

Well, it has been a long time since there was a waitlist. Perhaps your prof assumed there was one since some resorts do maintain them.

The waitlists at the DVC resorts are only for the villas. Completely different inventory and system from what I can tell.

I guess she did assume there was still a waitlist.

I realize the DVC Resorts are different but it's still weird how for one part of the Resort there is no wait list (regular rooms) and the other part (villas) there is a waitlist.

then it was basically the Polyn, Cont, FW, Disney villa (where SSR is now) - I think they did away with it before the Golf Inn (not SOG). might have been when GF was build.

thank goodness these cm never mentioned the other resorts - or instead of being in 2 rooms at the Polyn - we would have been in a cabin at FW.... Grandmother was paying in those days.

Yup! My family did it (the Polynesian, I think) for July 4th weekend in 1985. However, the wait proved too long, so we chose the Viscount (remember it??) in the Walt Disney World Village Hotel Plaza instead.

DVC resorts using points don't go through CRO - but a completely different system (MS).

I don't think CRO has access to this system at all.

Just an FYI

I don't know the years your Grandmother was taking you but when FW first opened it was just the campground and places for RV's.
When we stayed 1976 we used our RV.

In the 1980's they had some cabins but very few guests knew about them.
Disney saved them for larger families.
Since there were six in our family we stayed at a FW cabin in 1976.
At that time they were 40 foot long fleetwood trailers that had been made to look like a cabin.

Later Disney built the smaller cabins that are at FW now.

Packages have to be paid for by 45 days before the start of your trip.
