Ooh, we sooo need some pixie dust! We are in the middle of our 10th Anniversary/Son's 6th Birthday Disneyland trip -- and so far... we may never come back here!
Our flight was delayed three plus hours. When we went to get some food from McD's, my son nearly had a tantrum b/c he wanted a cheeseburger but they weren't serving them yet. As soon as -- and I mean literally, as soon as I picked up my order, they switched to the lunch menu. We got stuck on a flight with 50 some NOISY and OBNOXIOUS teenagers (band/choir groups going to Disney)... Now, I know noisy and obnoxious -- I've got four kids! My kids were a million times better behaved thankfully... but when we finally got to LAX, our luggage was the last off - we were ready to claim it missing. When we got to the car rental place they had trouble finding a minivan for us even though we reserved.... then my stupid credit card got declined even though I made sure it was all set... there is a credit line on it, I still don't know why that happened. We got stuck in rush hour traffic... but did make it to Medieval Times by the skin of our teeth. It was a birthday treat for our son. We paid the extra bucks for the special section but we wound up in the evil green knight's section which bugged out my kids to be told they were part of the "evil" group... argh! Then my dd7 had a stomach ache. During the show, I made no less than five trips to the bathroom with her and the other kids. (At least I've seen it before though) -- oh, I forgot, my drink of choice is pina colada... by the time we got to dinner, I really wanted/needed one... guess what mix they were all out of ? Yep....
Yesterday... things went okay...a few mishaps --- with parking and such... but it was a regular day. Except my kids who were all psyched for TOT, three of them hated it. One seriously cried, terrorized during the middle of the ride! I felt soooo bad! She'd been on it before too! I don't know what came over her! Other dumb stuff like splitting up while using FP's but accidentally taking the wrong FP's to the wrong ride! I know... totally our fault... we were just having "That kind of day." Oh and Space Mtn. was closed when we went to use our FP's and they said we could use them the next day. Other dd got a belly ache and didn't want to go on any rollercoaster type rides (even tho this was during the evening when the lines were shorter... so we kind of blew that chance).
Then today... omg. Kids did not want to get up. Son's bday is today -- he wouldn't wear his bday button... finally got him too. Didn't want to wear his yoda shirt (for Jedi Training) -- refused to get out of his pj's -- so he wore them to the park with his yoda shirt over them. We went to sign up for the Happiest Celebration Party... and they lady was majorly rude... she refused to give me a pen to fill out the reservation form... what's up with that? Son's ankle started hurting. Went to use our Space FP's and they gave us a hard time which was almost taking longer than just going standby... obnoxious!
Then we got that straightened out and went on and my son cried... sooo not like him. He's usually a daredevil. Went to the Jedi thing and he refused to volunteer. Then afterward, wished he had! Decided we better come back to the room for a nap and the maid was in here just starting to clean.... I know all little things but when you combine them.... it's been a major struggle every single step of the way... the lady refusing to let me use her pen to sign up for the birthday party made me cry actually... I ended up finding another CM and told her that we got married here ten years ago and were so looking forward to bringing our kids back to show them where our "family started" but that I don't think we'll ever be coming back. So far.... it's Florida or bust for us.... unless some pixie dust comes our way... We've only got one day left though -- so we'll see. I think we're going to wait for the kids to wake up from the nap and go to the parade tonight but that's about it for tonight. I am sooo disappointed in this trip!!!! Anyone got any ideas on how we can save it and make the best of our last day.... (Sunday 4/1)?????????

P.S. We DID enjoy the look and feel of DCA and had a good time on Soarin' ---

sending you LOTS of good thoughts!!!! Keep positive! I can still remember one picture of my kids and nephews on a bench just inside WDW....each one was separated by like 2 feet and have the MOST MISERABLE faces ever. Now we take out that picture and laugh!!! It tells the story of that trip! We overbooked and tried so hard to make the most of every minute and NOTHING worked!!! But like I said we laugh NOW!!!
Try and enjoy your last days! RELAX and go with the flow of the kids.;)

I don't have any tips, having never been myself, BUT I do wish you the very best!!! I am so sorry to hear soooo much has been going wrong - hopefully tomorrow is filled with enough magic to help you forget all the issues :)

I'm so sorry things keep going awry! I sure hope the rest of your trip is filled with Disney Magic!!!! I hope you feel Walt himself guiding your steps in his park!

Relax. Take a deep breath. We had one trip that was that way for us as well. To top it off we were dealing with my MIL/FIL the whole time. It was such a stressful trip we went back 5 months later as a "do over". We couldnt walk away feeling bad about the trip, we had to go back and have our faith restored.

Lots of Pixie Dust heading your way.:wizard: :wizard: pixiedust: pixiedust: :tinker: :tinker:

I hope you vacation gets better.

Reading this discussion board (and taking a good look in the mirror) has made one thing clear ... many of us plan WAY too much.

When we plan every second of every day it is inevitable that our expectations will not be met (be it because of a transportation delay, an irritable child, or any one of a billion different things). Ultimately, things don't go as planned and we are disappointed.

My advice is to throw out any "plans" you have for Sunday. Go to the park when you wake up and just totally play it by ear. Eat when you are hungry, go on a ride because it looks fun, and take a break when you need one.

Nothing (especially Disney) is any fun when you are running from place to place trying to get everything checked off your list without really enjoying the experience.

I promise you will feel less stressed and you will enjoy your time much more (even if you go on 3 or 4 fewer rides during the day).

Good luck ... Hopefully I will be there too!!

Awe, it sounds to me like you guys need to have a good nights sleep and start fresh tomorrow. Tomorrow is a new day, if you go in with a positive attitude ready to take on whatever is thrown at you you'll enjoy yourselves soooo much better. And try to slow down, someone else said people tend to over plan and I agree, you guys just need to slow down your pace and take notice of the small things. Make time for some character interaction and less time splitting up to make the most out of your FP's. I'm definately sending some pixie dust your way, remember you're at disneyland dont' forget to laugh at your situation sometime.

:scared1: Oh my! What a trip. I am so so so sorry to hear about all the mishaps on your vacation. I am wishing you much better luck with whatever you decide tomorrow. I wish Disneyland could have made a much better effect on you. It really is a wonderful place. It just seemed like the moons werent alined properly for you or something. :confused3

But I send you, love, trust and pixie dust :wizard: pixiedust: :tinker:

:hourglass thanks for all the support - pixie dust - well wishes... we sort of salvaged our night last night... we went to use our FP's that we collected in the a.m. Thank goodness we had them b/c it was packed... wall to wall people. I heard others saying, "I've never seen it so busy here!" -- It reminded me a little of the time we went in the 90's one day after Christmas. That was a day they were handing out those "It's busy today!" notices. So we ducked out and went to DCA, which wasn't as crowded. I'm liking DCA a lot b/c it has such a laid-back kind of feeling... before leaving DL we also went in and watched the Steve Martin 50 years of Disneyland movie, which helped us (me) feel a little better about our trip.
At one point I got dreamed, on one of the side walkways of the castle. CM's were handing out photopasses with a free 5x7 coupon. We went to take our photo in front of the castle and the photographer was like, "Hey you got your dream come true!" and I had to laugh because while I appreciated the "dream" -- this trip really has been the antithesis of a dream come true! However, we did get to see the Electrical Light Parade and that in itself was a dream come true -- meaning, I have always wanted to take my kids to see that parade. They were very good and enjoyed it. We sat by the Golden Zephyr and made our way out by Grizzly RR and actually beat the parade to the front of DCA and made it back over to DL in time for the fireworks -- tho we weren't really planning/trying to watch them as we were trying to get to Indy, which had been broken down when we went to try to use our FP's there earlier. Even with the FP's the line was at least 30 mins long... well, this is getting long and I will probably do a trip report so I'll save the rest.. but thanks for the well-wishes. Today is sleep in day and go to the beach day.. trying to meet up with some old friends! Tomorrow is our last Disney day. Hoping it will go well.

Really good advice! I love to plan simply because it helps me pass the time until my trip finally arrives...but once I'm there..I scrap most of my plans to play it all by ear! Best of both worlds and my planning didn't go to waste as I'm an informed spontaneous ( did I spell that right?) Dis'er!!!

I agree with all the other posters. I over planned and had such high expectations on our first trip. DD cried on her birthday in DCA and didn't know why. I think it was overload for all of us. Skip the plans and go back to the park and do whatever the kiddos want to do.

Here's some pixie dust and let us know how your day turns out.:wizard:

Hope your last day at the park is a magical one :goodvibes
Keep us posted and good luck!

I hope that on your last day, you are able to find the pixie dust within yourself. pixiedust:

Yes, Please keep us posted on the last day of Disney. I hope it goes even better then yesterday.
