Room Stewards Question...

New cruiser here--taking my first cruise on the Disney Magic for my honeymoon. I was reading the tipping thread and someone mentioned how their room steward was cleaning while they were in the room. I saw on the Cruise DVD room stewards preparing a room and turning down the beds. Is the information as to what time(s) your room will be serviced each day disclosed in your personal navigator or are you likely to be "surprised" by a knock?

Our stateroom hostess was so efficient. We saw her in the halls on occasion, and she seemed to learn our schedule right away. We were never woken up with a knock. If you are a late sleeper, or want some time in the room without interruption, you can put the do not disturb sign on the door. I think there was only 1 time all week (on a sea day) when we went to the room and she was cleaning. We were only dropping off a few things, so it was no big deal.As far as evening turn down service, she always did that while we were at dinner in the dining rooms.

They know what dining rotation you have for dinner so they usually do the turn down while you are there.

As for cleaning in the morning - they are amazing at keeping an eye out for when you go to breakfast etc.

We saw her in the hallway around our room but never got a surprise knock or anything.

It was like magic; room always cleaned, made up or tunred down and we never saw her near our room. She would say hi when she saw us and asked us if we were having a good time and whether there was anything at all she could do for us. If we asked, she took care of it right away. We loved her. I am quite certain you will have no trouble like you were worried about.

First off, Congratulations!! :bride: :groom: We wil be taking our 3rd Disney cruise next year. I can tell you, in our experience, the only time we "ran into" our Steward in the room, was when we tried to get in too early on Embarkation Day. What can I say, eager to get the trip started. Just enjoy yourselves. Let the people know at Guest Services that you're on your honeymoon, you just never know what kind of "Magic" pixiedust: will ensue ;)

Thanks, everyone! :)

Thanks for the tip! It is flagged on our ressie and I also ordered the romance gift basket to be waiting for us as a surprise for DH. But I will make sure to mention it to Guest Services as well. :)

I really enjoyed interacting with our room steward, Rodolpho. He was awesome! Whenever I needed something, he was quick to get it for me. We grew really close to him and looked for him in the halls to talk to.

He's on vacation right now. He left on 3/3 when we left the ship. I'm sure he's having a great time at home with his family.

They know when you'll be at the show or dinner and do the turndown then. If you are in the room and they knock just say "please come back later"- it's no big deal.

It's nice when they come in for turndown because they tidy up the room and give you fresh towels if you need them.

Our steward on our last cruise, Bhong, was great. One night I was in a rush getting to dinner and I had some shirts tossed around the room and flip flops thrown under the bed. When we came back he had folded my shirts nicely and put them on the couch and lined our shoes up neatly. :thumbsup2

You will get to know your room steward very well. They don't knock on the door and bug you to get in like they do when you are staying at a hotel.
Now, if you don't leave the room all day, they will knock and ask if you need anything. Now, if we don't want to be bothered, we just stick our heads out and say, we are going to nap for a while..we don't need anything, or whatever.

I agree the room stewards are great. Nick was ours last year, on the 2nd day of our cruise he saw my dh in the morning and asked if everything was ok. My dh just happened that I have back problems and the bed was a bit too soft. Straight away Nick asked what side I slept and said he could get something to put under my side.

He did this in the afternoon he asked if it was better - and it was great.

We would not normally have mentioned it, but I was so pleased we did. He was really great!

No this isn't a problem. Just don't forget to put out your DO NOT DISTURB sign and you'll be fine.

That was our experience as well. I forget her name, but she was wonderful. Always helpful and even seemed to anticipate our needs ahead of time. We tipped her some ridiculous amount, she was that great. I just wish she could have come home with me ;)

If you are going to be spending an extended period of time in your room during the day, just put out the "do not disturb" sign.

Then when you leave to go get a meal/do an activity, take down the sign and then your stateroom host will know they can enter the room.

The stateroom hosts may not be the most talkative people, but they so enjoy you talking to them. They love hearing about your day.
