Where can I purchase a used Maclaren Major stroller?

We are looking to purchase a used Maclaren Major. We can not afford a new one right now and our DS 5 is at the limit of the regular Maclaren stroller (55lbs). Has anyone had any luck finding used ones for purchase?

If you have your doctor write a prescription for one your medical insurance should pay for it under durable medical minus any co-pay.

The reason he still needs a stroller is for low tone (he tires very easily) and sensory issues. Someone told me that a prescription needs to come from PT; does anyone know if that is true? He really doesn't have any PT issues. We go to a developmental pediatrician, so I will ask her during his next visit. Thanks for the heads up.

It has to come from a doctor just like a wheelchair or any other equipment covered under durable medical on your insurance would.

On the prescription the doctor can write the justification that the stroller is needed because child has low muscle tone and is required for him to participate in family outings.

Can you tell I've seen my fair share of justification prescriptions over the years

A medical stroller is a lot cheaper then a wheelchair so you should have no problems getting it through insurance.

Any medical supply store that sells wheelchairs and takes your insurance. the reason I say sells wheelchairs is because there are some medical supply that only sell diabetic supplies.

He has an appointment with his regular pediatrician next month (who is actually a developmental pediatrician), so I will bring it up with her then.

If you don't know what you need, a PT can be very helpful in figuring it out and in writing the justification for it, but like Michigan wrote, it actually gets ordered/paid for based on the Dr.'s order.

If he sees a PT at school at all, that PT can help you out (even if he doesn't see one, the school probably has a 'consulting PT' who could help).

For where to go, check with your insurance. Some have "Preferred Provider" arrangements with a specific company. It makes it a lot easier if you go where they want you to (plus, some might have a higher co-pay if you don't use the preferred provider).
