Chef MIckeys for Dinner -- opinions please

okay please tell me about, I have only been here for for breakfast only,

how was the food and would you go back? was it worth it? Yes please post the good, bad and the ugly as they say. . . .

It depends on who is in your traveling party. We used to do Chef Mickey's quite a bit, but now that the kids are older (12 & 15), we don't feel it's worth the additional $$ for the character buffet.

The food is plentiful and varied and the character interaction is good. It is very loud there at times and some people don't know that there supposed to wait at their tables for the characters to come to them.

The atmosphere was much better than the food. It was the worst TS of our trip. The food was nothing special, bland and boring, but the kids enjoyed the character interaction.

I have 3 children, aged 5, 8, and 10, and we love Chef Mickey's. We've eaten breakfast there twice and both times had the same server, who was wonderful. Her name escapes me at the moment, but it'll come back to me. The kids love the character interaction and the food choices. It's not greatest food in the world, but it's typical buffet fare, and there are lots of choices which is great when you have a picky eater (my 10 year old)! Both times that we were there, we celebrated our youngest son's birthday which made it even more special!

my questions are about the meal itself, good or not?

would you rather go to Ohana's or 1900 Park for dinner?

or do as I do a lot and make the spurlge for the Yachtman?? I love it there

I try to do new things on trips, any opinions helpful.

Chef Mickey's dinner is a tradition for our family. We love it. I think its pretty darn good food for a buffet; the Spice Rubbed Prime Rib is delicious! Of course, you cannot compare it to a nice sit down meal like Le Cellier or something like that. Its just not in the same league. Its a character buffet and IMHO, its a good buffet.

We did dinner there last year. While the selection was good and so was the food I chose to try breakfast this year. If you don't have children that just have to eat at CM then I would try somewhere different. Don't get me wrong the food was okay but for us it's mostly for the characters.

Sorry, I mis-read that you were asking about dinner, not breakfast. That's what happens when I'm trying to meet the needs of the my youngest son and think at the same time!!

We had breakfast there in May 2006 and weren't planning on going back...it was just so noisy and crowded and we had to wait for a long time for a table despite ADRs. The lines to get food were so long with kids running around and cutting in front of people, and the characters took a really long time getting around. We left before they all got to us.
But...DH really wanted to try it for dinner, so we went 2 weeks ago. We had a fairly early ADR and showed up early for it (we were seated right away) and the place was much less crowded. We visited with all the characters pretty early in our meal. DS was really excited to see Donald Duck - the one character he said he wanted to see. The food...it was generally ok, not outstanding. The seafood salad, peel-n-eat shrimp, pesto chicken, parmesan mashed potatoes, desserts, and sundae bar were the highlights for us. We tried the ribs (I think only available on weekend nights) that everyone raves about on these boards and didn't like them at all. The sauce was too strong and not spicy enough for us. I think we would do dinner there again, again with an early ADR, but we won't go for breakfast again.

I think if you are going for food quality...I would go elsewhere.

To me, if you are deciding between the Yachtman's & CM for a food taste dining experience...you will be highly disappointed with CM...Maybe try the California Grill at CR...I hear that is one of the best!

I've been to both breakfast and dinner and I got to say dinner is way better! I wouldn't consider going back for breakfast but we're going again this year for dinner. To me it reminds of the Crystak Palace buffet a little bit. It might not be the best food ever but I liked it and it had plenty of variety. I would feinitely give dinner a try!

I think it really depends on what kind of overall experience you are looking for.

We have been for the dinner buffet and enjoyed it very much but that definitely had more to do with the festive and fun atmosphere than anything to do with the food.

My 4 year old granddaughter loved both the food and atmosphere (especially the ice cream bar but she is also happy as long as she can get mac & cheese and it's a big bonus if she can get it herself!).

The adults thought the food was horrible but enjoyed the atmosphere and watching my DGD have such a fun time. Our service was very good.

Would we return? In a heartbeat...because my DGD loved it so much.

I have eaten at several places on property in parks and resorts, I do like to have a character dining to accomodate everyone in our party, character dinings are great and we try to do one or two a trip, I am just looking at options here.

Yachtman's is always a must do in my book(go there every trip), have not tried the California Grill, but ya never know.

I'll pipe in since you want more opinions. I thought it was okay, but my Dh didn't like it very much at all. He's not a buffet guy and thought it wasn't worth the money when there are so many other options. He'd only go back if there weren't other character dinner options, which there are. If you aren't sold on going to a character meal, I'd say spend your money on a different kind of restaurant like the ones you've been mentioning.

BTW, we're going to be trying the Yachtsman Steakhouse for the first time in April. Can't wait!

We went for the first time in Oct. Since our dd is 4, she was thrilled. I really don't go in expecting much from a character buffet but I have to say this one was quite enjoyable. Characters didn't seem rushed (and this was dinner before the halloween party so it was busy) and I thought the food was very good. We really loved the dessert bar. I would give it an 8 out of 10. We'll go back.

you will love Yachtmans I go on every trip, ask for Oscar to wait your table, he is my favorite

I may look into 1900 Park Fare or Cape May for this other day I am looking at. . . .

We went for the first time October 19, 2006. It was my birthday and we picked it because we were taking our 2 nieces and they wanted to see characters. Our reservations were for 5 pm and we were seated within 10 minutes. Our table was decorated with confetti and a birthday placemat. The characters were fabulous, Mickey, Minnie, Donald (he stayed at the front to greet people), Goofy, Chip and Dale. They spent alot of time with the kids.

The food was the worst I have ever eaten. Even the kids hated it. The kids table had mac and cheese (no taste), cold pizza and hard chicken fingers. The rolls were hard as rocks, the soup was overly salted, the salad was wilted. The only good thing was the prime rib and the mashed potatoes. I got food poisoning from some pasta, mushroom, cream sauce dish. I know it was that because we all ate the same food all day long and I was the only one to sample that pasta.

I would never go here for dinner again but I might try breakfast.
