If I cancel an April cruise, do I have to use all my points now?

I am confused about my choices. I am thinking about canceling an April cruise. I used 622 points. They are a mixer of banked, use year and borrowed. Is it true that all the points have to be used by me August use year since they are already in the reservation system, or can I bank some of the points from this year for next year? I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for any help!

The points are now all in your 2006 Use Year and (assuming you have an Aug UY) would have to be used by 7/31/07 or they expire. They cannot be banked. Also note that they are now "reservation points" which CANNOT be used at any of the 7 DVC resorts. You can only use the points for non-DVC alternatives like the Disney Collection (cruises, Disneyland Resorts, non-DVC resorts at WDW, etc.) or the Concierge Colletion.

Just wanted to agree with the tjkraz. Your points are now reservation points. Reservation points cannot be banked, borrowed or transferred. You can rebook the cruise for a later date and they may be a good option.

Sorry you may have to cancel:wizard:

If the OP cancels and wants to rebook another cruise, she'll have to choose one that departs prior to the end of her current use year, which is 7/31/2007.

I thought his/her Current use year points would just go back to here account? Aslong as its before the 31 day marker.:confused3

The points will go back into her account, but they are now "reservation points" and that status cannot be revoked. Points are converted to Reservation Points whenever they are used to book within the Disney Collection or Concierge Collection.

Don't confuse it with points in "holding" status, which is what happens when you cancel less than 31 days out.

Oh Ya, I wasn't thinking that it was for a cruise. So if it would have been a WDW resort then they would have just gone back into here account with nothing wrong with them(reservation status, holding status). Am I right?

Thanks CarolMN, that part I was not sure of, on rebooking the cruise by the end of the UY.

If the OP had made a DVC Resort reservation and had to cancel, her points would have been returned to her current UY and a portion of them (her current UY points) would have been available to bank.

But once you use them to book outside of DVC, their status changes. Points used to reserve other Disney Resorts or DCL become reservation points.

:thumbsup2 Thank you all so much for the feedback on the points issue. I get it now. I am thinking about taking an Alaskan cruise on Holland America. It seems to be one way to utilize most of the points.

Again,
Thanks!

Something else to keep in mind when using points for non-DVC options is that the cancellation policies are also different. Many of the Concierge Collections have their own policies -- listed in the member guidebook.
