Banking Question

If I bank 10-15 unused points ant the end of my use year, are these automatically used FIRST in your next reservation or do you need to specify? I want to avoid getting to the end of the next year with only a handful of points and be told they are not bankable.

I bought into DVC in March of 2006 and banked my points right away (they had to be banked by 3/31 if I wanted to bank them all). I made a ressie for Vero Beach last fall and they automatically used my banked points.

See the member web site or the books that your guide gave you for the info on the banking deadlines. My use year is October.

Here is a chart of banking deadlines for each Use Year: http://members.cox.net/disneyvacationclub/pages/Charts/charts.htm As you can see from the chart, you can bank up to 100% of your points during the first 6 months of your Use Year, up to 50% during months 7-9, up to 25% during month 10 and cannot bank anything during the last 2 months of your Use Year. I just wanted to mention that since you mentioned banking points at the end of your Use Year.

Once you bank the points into the next UY, they are available to use for stays during that UY (and no longer available to use for stays during the current Use Year). So if you had a Jun UY and banked some leftover points from your '06 UY into your '07UY, those banked points would be usable for stays between Jun 1, '07 - May 31, '08. When you make your next reservation for that time period, MS will normally use those banked points first. I always confirm with MS that the banked points are being used. You can also verify online that the banked points have been used.

While MS will usually use any banked points first when making a reservation, I would always suggest telling them you want the banked points used and then confirm your point totals (and the status of those points) with every call.

MS does a great job of handling calls, making reservations and banking points, but the ultimate responsibility for point management still falls on us as members.

Just get in the habit of tracking your point usage and confirming with MS at every opportunity.

Enjoy! :)
