Which is better renting or transfering?

Hello, this is my first time to post on this board, or any DVC board. We have purchased a resale DVC to Boardwalk and are considering renting/transferring points to pay for the dues and our next vacation (we have 600 points). It's all a bit overwhelming. I've read through the FAQS and I'm still very confused and a bit apprehensive as to how to proceed. I'm curious if transferring is easier that renting? It seems that would be a lot less work and stress. I would love it if someone with a few minutes could lay it all out for me and help me in a step by step manner; or point me toward a FAQ that will give me the info I need.

Thanks! Am I the only one that finds all of this daunting?

Transferring points is the easiest way to sleep at night for the rentee and alot less work for the renter. It means you will be dealing with another DVC member so that in itself is better for us all. However you can only do one transfer in or out per year so with 600 points it more likely that you will have to go both routes to rent your points. Their are several threads on this board from members who have set up rental contracts that you can send to a potential renter. You need to make a reservation for the renter and send them the original confirmation from Disney. I've rented several times in the past as I never have enough points for my family reunions. I usually pay 50%
upfront and then after receiving confirmation I would send balance. Hope this helps. Joan

Actually, the easiest way is to use them all yourself. No worries about if the person you transferred or sold to will pay you. That's what we do every year with our 500 points.

Good for you but that doesn't answer the OP's question.

Transfer is far easier as noted. Make sure it is a good sized one though because you only get one out or in per year. You could simply do a three way call to MS with the party interested and transfer points into there account. That is after you've received funding 50% or all depending on what both parties are comfortable with.

You could also list your points for rent on the rent/trade board here on the Dis. Follow the guidelines for posting and you'l be fine. Be sure to have a signed contract that protects both parties. Many can be reference right here on the Dis, printed and used.

Communication is a must on both ends so everyone is comfortable with the transaction.

Transferring is easier, but there are not many people who want to transfer 600 pts. Also, the "nervousness factor" would go up alot for that number of points. You are talking about $6000, more or less, and both renter and rentee become less willing to trust when they have to put up $3000 in advance. I would really not want to lose control of 600 pts, either. For these reasons, it might work better for you to rent your pts.

Just a technical point. But in every POS it is not allowed to transfer points for compensation. While there maybe or may not be some wiggle room debating a commercial pattern of renting, transferring for compensation is not permitted.

With the close scrutiny of these (and other) forums by CMs, be careful about publically admiting to transferring for compensation.

Or, I just may be a wee bit paranoid.

I have sent in my first post to the rent/transfer board and am awaiting it's approval. I'm sure I'll have more questions but everyone's kind replies gave me the courage to jump right in and try!
