Which value resort?

Trying to decide which value resort for our late August trip. There will be me (Grandma), DD, and 2 DGDs (9+13) for 6 nights. I have stayed at ASMu one time, but for that trip we had a rental car. We also ate no meals at the resort. This trip will be a tight budget, so we will be using the busses and breakfast at the food court. Is there much difference between an of the All-Stars and Pop Century? Which would you recommend for us?

I have never stayed at Pop Century or ASMu, but I will offer something I read somewhere. Since Pop Century is newer, it seems to lack the subtle mistakes made by Disney at the All Stars. One I remember specifically is that the walls are a little thicker and better insulated, thereby reducing the noise you may hear from adjoining rooms.

Actually, it's the exact opposite. The paper thin walls at Pop have been an ongoing complaint since it opened. All Stars doesn't have this problem.

I've stayed at both. It always seems to me that All Stars is newer in terms of mistakes. The integrated food court/gift shop at Pop is a pain. You go into one and you get crowds for both.

Also, the bar area was done much better at All Stars.

Huh, I can't list the site where I read that (it's a pay site) but I am reading exactly what I wrote: Pop has quieter rooms. Well, I am stepping aside from this one as I have never stayed at either.

Now, in all honesty, I never noticed the issue at all. Stuff like that doesn't really bother me. I have read in several places that's an issue with Pop though.

It's actually pointed out in any of the guidebooks about Disney (except for the official one of course.)

I've stayed at all of the All Stars (Sports 2x, Music 1x, Movies 2x) and Pop (3x) and we prefer POP. I like the feeling of Pop and there is a great path along the lake. I have never noticed any of the noise issues in all of our trips, and I am a teacher and have super hearing LOL. I like the pop jets area at Pop, the trivia along the walking paths, the hustle and the twist dancing in the lobby, frozen coke available in the food court, a great grab and go area in the food court, two bars, the retro music, and I could go on and on.

I don't like to eat in the food court for breakfast as it is very crowded. We bring poptarts and the like and have a light breakfast in the room and then either have a late breakfast or an early lunch in the park. There are microwaves available in the food court and we also like to bring our own popcorn.

Since POP opened we haven't been back to the All Stars. That's how much we love POP!

The layout of Pop is similar to ASMovies - a circular fashion. There are no very long walks to the main building's food court and shopping, etc. We like Pop more because the food court has more choices, the buses are only for Pop, and the shopping seemed better.
The only drawback with Pop is that if you drive or rent a car, the parking lots are quite a distance from some of the rooms.

I have stayed at AS Mo once and AS Mu twice. This August I stayed at Pop. I much preferred the All Stars for a number of reasons. The walls were like paper in Pop and the noise was off putting at times. The food court was SO busy that we always had to be there well before 8am. The hotel may have its own bus service but the queues were always long. Sometimes there were enough people in line for 3 buses! The laundry rooms were always busy - we had to use the machines after midnight on every occasion. One big problem we had that no one else seems to have experienced is that cigarette smoke constantly leaked through the air con in to our room. We will definitely stay at the All Stars next time.I feel I can make like for like comparisons because we always stay at the same time of year on every visit. I think I prefer a smaller hotel where it just isnt so busy. We still had a great holiday though.

We have only stayed at the All-Star resorts. :cool1: I would prefer to stay at a Moderate resort for me because I like the quiet atmosphere and the hot tubs, because I have a bad neck and back from a car accident. However, my husband likes the All-Stars because of the theming. He thinks ASMO is more like being at Disney!! pixiedust: Last year we stayed not far from the pool on the 3rd level and it was loud. I woke up several times hearing people in the pool and the buses. :furious: The year before we stayed on the back side from the pool not near the parking lot and it was much quietier. :ssst: This year when I go I am going to take my daughters noise maker just for background noise, it also helps to drown out the sounds of my son talking in his sleep for all the activity and my husband snoring!!:music: All in all, no matter where you stay its way nicier because you are "home!!":tink:

Have fun on your upcoming stay!!:yay:
