Zurich to Basel Day of Departure Rhine River

Hi All,
We have decided to stay a few nights in Zurich before the Basel Rhine River departure, then on the day of departure, go to Basel for the river cruise.

Has anyone traveled from Zurich to Basel on day of departure and which travel mode did you select?

Private Car - expensive, but probably the most reliable to be on time.
Train - less expensive, but have to take taxi from station to departure point.

Have you asked ABD if they will pick you up at the train station? Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. It seems to be on a case-by-case basis.

Dd, ds and I took the train from Zurich to Basel on the day of our Rhine River cruise. Trains are very punctual and comfortable (I LOVE train travel in Europe). I believe we took a taxi to the port, then dd and I walked around Basil and did a bit of shopping (I left my sunglasses on the train, so needed to buy a new pair).

Absolutely no need to worry about a train in Switzerland being late! I've never experienced a train being delayed / late in Europe -- if the departure time is 11:01am, they will be pulling out of the station at exactly 11:01am.

We did this trip last year and took the train from Zurich to Basel and then got a cab right outside the train station. It was very easy and train was only about an hour. Like the other poster above, we did the same. Got situated on the ship and then spent time walking around Basel.

We did the exact same thing last year. Super easy. Have a wonderful adventure!
