what all did you have to pay for during the senior year of public high school? items, activities and their costs.

So far:

"regular" fees-$40

class t-shirt-$5

cap & gown package- just over $200 (it will include announcements and other such things)

about $50 for her Senior pic clothes

I was the photographer for her Senior pics...we will be printing them soon. My guess is about $50 for friend pics and another $100 or so for grandparent printing.

It will be $65 for her yearbook

She knows how hard it is for us right now financially so she is foregoing her letterman's jacket and a class ring.

We also had/have $210 in band fees but we'd be doing that no matter what year she was.

My costs have been MUCH higher the the pp. So much so that it hurts to put it in print!

Senior t-shirt $10
letter jacket $180
class ring $382
"Senior girl" t-shirt $10 (why do they need a separate girl one???)
Senior picnic- not sure
Senior pictures- casual & formal $300-400
Senior prom-free tickets for selling required # of fundraising trash bags ($130 value)
prom dress- $200 (I hope)
special white gown for Winter ball(seniors must wear white)-$200
Personal ad in yearbook-$150
graduation cap & gown/announcements-haven't seen this yet
application fees for colleges/sending SAT scores/ transcripts-$200 so far

Seriously, this thing has gotten way out of hand...but I seem to be the only parent around my town who thinks so! I keep telling myself what a great kid she is...she really is but WOW!

Please don't flame me, guys...it must be worse somewhere else, right?

wow - I would think everything is not needed...I sure didn't get a personal ad in the yearbook as my mom couldn't afford it at the time. I know down here there is Grad Night at Disney as well. I think that is $100 for the bus and ticket.

If students have jobs I wonder what or if parents are maknig them pay for anything on their own?

I forgot app fees:scared1:.....mine is being silly...only sending in apps to colleges who don't charge. :rotfl2: We will have to pay for college visits....that will cost probably about $500

I don't even want to think about prom yet:scared1: Hopefully, we will happen across a bargain like last year ($7)

We have had to make it cheaper and it breaks my heart, but she doesn't seem to be too sad.

So far:

SAT fee - $45
Senior pictures - $140

Upcoming:

College application fees - estimating $200-$300
Prom expenses - estimating $200
Year Book $75
Cap & Gown fee -???

Senior year is expensive, no doubt.

Lettermen's jacket we bought during his sophomore year - $195
Class ring, also sophomore year - $120 (at Walmart, believe it or not!)
Yearbook, probably about $75
Class dues $20
Class trip ? will find out in the spring, probably around $100
Prom Tickets $50 (guessing)
Announcements - spend $40 online for his brothers, will probably do the same for him, cheaper than the schools
Cap and Gown $15
Tux $65 (guessing)
Senior Pics Spent $20 for sitting fee, will spend about $200 on the photos probably
SATs and College Apps, probably $150, depending on how many schools he applies to

So far this year, not much:

$20 for college application fee-got accepted already, done with that process
$45 ACT fee (from last summer does that count)?

We haven't had to pay for yearbooks (which are around $70), cap/gown, etc. yet.

Oh, we paid the sitting fee for Sr. Pictures, $100. I haven't bought any yet because I can't decide which ones to get. :lmao:.

He lettered as a freshman so he got his letter jacket then. I would be shocked if he went to prom.

Just an FYI thing to check into, my son applied to several different colleges in Ohio and as long that you applied on-line the schools waived the application fees.

I just ordered the first round of friend pics....less than $10:cool1:

My DS graduated last year and it was wicked expensive.

We live in Indiana where you pay bookfees which were $285
choir fees were $800
parking pass $15
year book $60
ACP English $380
SAT and college applications $400
AP tests, I forget how much but it was several hundred dollars
prom $250
cap and gown $60
announcements (I made my own) $10
senior pictures $500
graduation open house $400

We passed on the letter jacket and class ring and there was no class trip.

How about I add my 8th grade graduation to the mix. Might make you feel better:

$80 class ring (includes, keychain, autographable t-shirt, memory book)
$___ cap and gown (unknown right now)
$150+ cost for last year's 8th grade class trip (Spirit of NJ dinner/DJ cruise)
this year the kids want to do the same, but teacher said it will cost
more -- apparently they undercharged last year
$ 40 fee for COOP exam (for Catholic high schools -- mandatory whether
attending Catholic high school or not)
$75-$100 fee for graduation dance (after graduation)
$____ graduation fees (unknown right now)
$35 yearbook fee (regardless of year)
$____ class pictures (unknown right now)

Actually Lillygator, my DD goes to Catholic school. I'm sure the fees are quite as extensive for public school, but there are still ring, cap & gown, pictures, yearbook, class trip, etc. fees. Boy, can't wait until we get to high school! :rotfl:
