Myself, my husband and our three sons will be on the Fantasy for a fall cruise to the Western Caribbean. When we're in Grand Cayman, I'd like for us to go on an excursion. That could be a Disney one, another agency or on our own. Our sons will be 15, 13 and 9. They can all swim, the older two very well, but didn't do too well with the salt water and equipment the first time we snorkeld a couple of years ago. I'd like to somehow visit the reefs or beaches, either snorkeling or boating. Stingrays aren't a big draw for us.

Advice?

We've done the catamaran sail to Rum Point twice and loved it. It is about a 10-15 minute bus ride to the marina and an hour sail to Rum Point. You have about 2 1/2 hours at the beach and a buffet lunch is included. There are quite a few activities available (some with an additional cost) including snorkeling, paddle boarding and windsurfing. DCL has a dedicated section of the beach reserved for its guests and the buffet is set up right behind it. During our visit, the buffet included caymanian fish, jerk chicken, salad, red beans and rice and grilled plantains. There were brownie bites for dessert and ice tea to drink. If the buffet is not to your liking there is a small restaurant and bar on the premises as well as a nice gift shop and bathhouses. The cost on our last cruise was $60/adult.

I like to visit my offshore accounts...I mean the stingrays.

I guess you like Panama Canal cruises, too!

Sorry OP, I have nothing to add as I have not been to Grand Cayman yet. We will go there on our next cruise and I like the sound of the semi-submarine excursion that also has some snorkelling time added on. We will most likely do that.

having been there just once, the general consesus among the three adults is:
our favorite thing to do at Grand Cayman is to stay on the ship.

if we have a stingray city excursion that leaves at noon, would we still have a good encounter with the rays? i am imagining them being so full from all the feed the morning excursions will bring that they will not show up for lunch.

There are a LOT of rays that hang out at stingray city - it really is incredible to see/experience. I imagine they'll still be there for later excursions.

We have taken the tour offered by Nativeways a few times and LOVED it! You stop at Stingray City, snorkle at a reef and then they bring you to Rum Point for lunch! Since we have done this a few times, we haven't wanted to repeat anything but Rum Point. It is an incredible, peaceful, gorgeous beach that very few people go to because it is on the other side of the island and you typically have to take a boat there because the taxi's aren't readily available. On our last Disney cruise, they offered an excursion that was called something like Rum Point Beach Break and it was simply that. They took you on a boat and dropped you off at Rum Point. I think it included lunch. Rum Point is probably my very favorite place/beach I have been to from my ten cruises (either that or the Blue Hole in Jamaica). Seven Mile beach is very nice and much closer (therefore much less expensive) but to me, it is very crowded for those very reasons.
