Your favorite hidden gems at Animal Kingdom

I'm afraid I don't remember if it was on the guide map or not. I'm guessing not, because we were surprised when we came across it.

I love everything everyone has mentioned. Wish I'd been there for the kite thing. DD likes the passport activities, too. I'm not too good at finding the HIDDEN things, but some lesser-mentioned things we appreciated:

The naked mole rat colony! YES, they're a real animal.

The gibbons in the temple ruins.

The bones buried in sand at the Boneyard... well, maybe this is a little hidden, you have to find the steps leading to the bridge over the entrance to Dinoland to get there... I'm told lots of people never realize they haven't seen all of the Boneyard and miss the dig.

It's all good.

I didn't know about the kite making. Great 'gem'!

Another good 'hidden secret' is the Dinoland sign indicating route 498. Animal Kingdom opened in April 1998 (4-'98).

Any more Animal Kingdom 'hidden gems'? What have you seen that you know what meant to be a little 'secret'?

On our last visit, DH and I started speaking to one of the college interns who was near a table displaying African currency. What began as a simple conversation turned into an almost two-hour discussion with 5 of the African interns there as we compared our countries' politics, educational systems, medical facilities, issues of race and prejudice, etc. Although we had visited AK several times, no visit was quite as memorable as this one, and we're looking forward to seeing them again in December. Don't walk by those simple tables--iinitiate a conversation, and you may discover new friends!
