Youngstown Ohio

I live in NY, my dh just got a job offer in Youngstown Ohio- he was not looking there.

Can anyone tell me about this location. Schools? Crime? Any thoughts at all? Certain areas to look at for housing or areas to stay away from?

I doubt we will move, but the offer is really tempting.

Suburbs of Youngstown are fine. You will find any type of housing and neighborhood you want within a half hour radius. Weather sucks, cost of living can't be beat.

Directly between Cleveland and Pittsburgh, so an hour or so of travel in either direction will get you to all major sporting events, concerts, hospitals and everything else.

My DD goes to YSU. As with all urban cities, some parts are nice some are not. It's a city that back in it's hay day everyone worked at the steel mills and now those are all gone, so some parts are depressed.

Good surrounding area's within 15 to 20 minutes are Boardman and Canfield. Their school systems are good too. https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/ohio/rankings

Coming from NY, your dollar will go far! I wouldn't have a problem moving to one of the suburbs.

I live in Akron, and I pimp everything in North East Ohio , with that being said Youngstown is a dump, worse city in Ohio in my opinion

Hey now! When my DD said she wanted to go to YSU we were like no way, why the heck would you want to go there! But now that she is there and we are familiar with it we like it too. And Jim Tressel has really built the campus up and they're working on the downtown. Its changed my mind on the area but most people think like you, that's really too bad.

YSU is great and like someone said many suburbs, but downtown and surrounding area almost everything has shut down, like a problem in many industrial midwest states, but it seems Youngstown got hit harder then anyone

They should build a seasonal Disney Park in the Cleveland area.
