Daniel and Jana: Prime Suspects for Murder!
This week, Daniel is framed for murder when the con who coaxed him into an "undercover assignment for the government" is found dead -- and Jana is accused of being Mr. Romalotti's accomplice!
"Jana is terrified for both herself and Daniel," admits Emily O'Brien. "Daniel was trying to do something good for himself and the government, and it backfired."
The events are set into motion when Agent Aucker asks Daniel to take a polygraph test. Aucker doesn't believe Daniel's story about the fake agent and the forged Terroni he painted. Meanwhile, Jana spies Victoria meeting with Howard, who's trying to sell her the painting for money.
"Jana recognizes Howard right away," explains O'Brien. "But she doesn't say anything to Victoria, because he pulls her aside and threatens Daniel. Jana wants to keep Daniel safe."
Instead, Jana pushes Victoria to make the deal for the painting. However, once Howard makes his exit, Victoria announces that she's not buying anything from the con-man. Later, Victoria meets with Aucker and agrees to give him her full cooperation in catching Howard, while Jana explains to Daniel what went down with Victoria.
"Daniel decides to go to Jimmy's. He wants to meet Howard and get the forgery back, and have Aucker come there and capture him," explains O'Brien.
Jana heads to the bar, as well. Unfortunately, Amber and Kevin follow her and demand to know what's going on. To make matters worse, Aucker is there, too.
"Jana can't say anything," notes O'Brien. "Aucker becomes a little suspicious. Why is Jana there? Why does she have a look on her face like she's hiding something? Jana just walks away and waits to see what is going to happen."
In the alley, Daniel meets with Howard, who pulls out a gun. Then, a man wearing a ski mask jumps out and shoots Howard. As Howard lays dying on the cement, he tells Daniel that he will be blamed for his death -- just as Victoria approaches. Daniel races home, where he finds an anxious Amber, Jana and Kevin waiting.
"Daniel fills them in on everything that happened," recounts O'Brien. "He tells them about Howard's murder and admits he's in big trouble."
Then Daniel and Jana confess all to Kevin and Amber about the forgery scam. "They're disappointed that Daniel and Jana kept it from them," says O'Brien. "But Daniel and Jana explain that they didn't want to get them involved."
Kevin realizes that Daniel has to leave town as soon as possible. But before they can leave, Aucker shows up. "He questions everyone about Howard's murder. They're all frightened," admits O'Brien.
Things go from bad to worse when Aucker reveals that Daniel's fingerprints were found on the gun that shot Howard. Then Aucker accuses Jana of being his accomplice "because she knew about the scam and tried to help sell the forgery." Says O'Brien, "Jana's frantic! All she was trying to do was look out for her friend Daniel. Now they're both prime suspects in a murder. It's a horrible mess, and they don't know how they're going to get out of it."
