you'll never guess what i just did.......

i used to work for that other airline! the perks were great! 7 free tickets a year and 9 tims out of ten these were NOT economy! mates tickets at a very good rate!!! silly me choose to leave said company! one BIG mistake

wow - 7 free tickets...that would be great!!

the UK discounted free dining deal at SSR (and OKW) is fantastic...
if it had only been one room, or maybe two, i would have gone for that one...
but for 3 rooms, it was just too much..

i'd much rather not stay in the values, but it would have cost thousands more for 3 rooms for 2 weeks...
if it had been one week, i might have splurged on WL....the rates there for this pin code were really great....but for 2 weeks, it was just too much...
and to go to WDW for anything less than two weeks - what with how much the flights cost - just isn't worth it...

and truth be told, both my kids say they're more than happy staying at pop...
so fine....i'm an old stick in the mud and like my deluxe, but they're happy at the values so i'm sure we'll have a spectacular time....after all, we'll be together...

we'll be there august 13 - 27...

i have to go check the dis meet schedule and see when everyone else is there..
when i was there last june by myself, i made it to two dismeets and they were a lot of fun (met Reid at one of them)...

i know that DD will want to go to at least one meet.....she loves people on this board (she doesn't hang out on the dis, but she's FB friends with a lot of people from here :) )

We have stayed at the Pop a few times and love it!!....You will not be disappointed. If we have to leave a day or so before than planned think we'll stay there again for the first day or so.

and what with ever rising ticket costs, the mistake is getting bigger every day!!
a woman who lives down the street from us works for the airline we fly...
she's in the complaints the department (customer service)..
she's worked there for years just for the free and discounted tickets...
she's british...so she and her kids fly home to see their grandparents all the time!! maybe she'll adopt me so i can fly to WDW on her!!

i'm sure i'll enjoy it....when i told DS that i'd made the reservations, he was soooooo excited...he hasn't been back to the states in over 5 years....not since before his military service, which was the last time all 4 of us were at WDW together....DD and i were there together a bunch of times (she's a singer), and i was there myself last year, but it's been 5 years since all 4 of us were at WDW...so i'm sure we'll have a wonderful time...of course, now there are 2 new people added to the mix - DDIL and DSIL....but they're fun...i'm sure they'll be a good addition...

the plane ride is going to be a shock to DSIL...he's never been out of the country!!
and he was injured terribly when he was 18 - broken back, 24 hour surgery, miracle that he's alive, miracle that he can walk.....basically he's a miracle....so everything new is really really new for him...
so flying across the ocean.......seeing america....meeting mickey and friends....how much more exciting can something be?????

ready to cry with me?
i just checked my frequent flyer points....
between DH and me, we have enough for 4 "free" tickets (plus a tax and fuel surcharge of about £250 per ticket)..

so sounds great right....we need 6 tickets.....we have enough points for 4 tickets....

EXCEPT - all the free tickets seats are sold out for when we're traveling..
so we can't get any free tickets at all....we have to buy all 6 tickets at very high rates for economy..

if we could travel 2 weeks later (from sept 1 and on), we'd be able to get all 4 free tickets, plus the other two tickets would be HALF the cost...

i won't even mention the fact that of the 6 of us, 5 can travel in september (for 2 of us, september is preferred)...
but my daughter in law is a teacher and has to be back for school..

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

so the cost of flights is almost infinitely higher.....

£2,000 for 6 tickets in september vs £8,000 for 6 tickets in august....

and i don't know if the £8,000 is final yet....
the TA is at this moment, talking with the airline - begging them to give me that price....£1,400 per ticket is a bargain at this point....he only managed to get me on a waiting list for that price...it might be even worse..

and all because of the particular days we're traveling..

i think i may kill myself..

(just keep repeating...it's only money...it's only money....it's only money...)

Just wondering do they availability for Tampa or even Miami for the free tickets?

for the airline where i have the points, free tickets to all destinations are sold out for the month of august....it's the highest demand time of the year and people book them a year in advance...

are they part of an alliance, we have done that in the past, although to be fair, other airlines "free" tickets are probably sold out as well but it may be worth a look. We used Singapore air Airmiles on Virgin the first time we went.

It was great meeting you too  along with other DISers :)

Shame that the points for tickets will not work. I am sure with all this crunching of numbers you will make other deals for your trip :thumbsup2
