You Want to Stay Where?! A July PTR* TR LINK 8/8!

Here's a fun thing to do in Epcot too!

Practice saying hello in the WS languages before you go to WDW. It’s fun to go around to each country and talk with a CMs! The CM's seem to be really happy when you greet them in their native language!! So here's a few that I know!

Mexico...Hola (OH-lah)

Norway...god dag (goo-DAHG)

China...Ni hao (nee HOW)

Germany...gutten Tag (GOOT-en tahkh)Good Day

Italy...buon giornio (boo-on JOR-no)Good Day
or ciao (chow)hello or good bye

Japan...ohayo gozaimasu (oh-hi-yoh-goh goh-zy-ee-mahs) Good Morning

Morocco... Salam alekoum (sah-LAHM wah-LAY-koom)

France...Bonjour (bohn-ZHOOR)

There's also a place in Innoventions West Side that you can send an e-mail hello back to family and friends at home! Be sure to check out the IBM e-mail postcards while there! There was no wait while we were there this past October. The best thing is if you don't like the picture it took you can keep taking one until you get it right!

Journey Into the Imagination also has several computers that you can send a photo and email greeting home. This is really fun because you can "play" with your picture. Turn yourselves into cartoons or animals. Personalize your greeting several different ways.

Got this tidbit off the disboards and saved it. And, bravo to you for always making learning fun! That's the way learning should be, fun and always ongoing. My DGD, Angie just love Epcot! Well, she just loves Disney, but Epcot is her favorite, but, it's always subject to change!!!

Enjoy! Karen

I read all you reports and lurk around. I have not made enough post so I can't send a PM. Reading others trip reports get me all excited about my upcoming trip (24 days :bitelip:) Can you send me the powerpoint with the coloring count down. I am going with my best friend this summer and this will be her daughters first time going. We are waiting to tell the oldest about the trip until 2 weeks before we leave because she will drive my BF crazy:lmao:

Having this will help out with all the questions about "it is time, how much longer, etc. You know how it can be.

My email address is valfretwell at gmail.com

Thank you so much my BF daughter will love these!!!!

I have read along with your adventures in the past, but somehow I forgot about Maddie not liking the WS. Let me tell you, Adison has made the WS a pretty miserable experience in the past. Not joking, to the point of bringing me to tears...in Disney World, my happy place! She has just been VERY naughty there and this year we even had a contingency plan of me touring the WS by myself while Adison & Mike did things that she found more palatable.

Well, the good news is that I think WS appreciation comes with age, and in this case the magic age was 5! Hopefully it will work out the same for you guys!

She particularly liked watching the drum performance in Japan, the mime in Italy, trying on viking hats in Norway (while I doused myself in Laila), sombreros in Mexico (along with the Gran Fiesta Tour) and took a nap through much of the rest of the WS, so I looked through some of the pavilions while Mike scouted around for snacks and beer! We also did Pick a Pearl, which she LOVED. absolutely loved it. A tip, if you wish to do this too, try going into the store while the drummers are still doing their thing outside, the store was relatively empty, it filled up quickly after their performance was over. We were the only people at the counter when she was picking her pearl, by the end of the ceremony there was a line of people waiting to go after her. We did 1 pearl, the cinderella carriage pendant and a chain and it was around $100 (if you don't mind pre-picking the setting, you can get them on ebay for a lot less!).

I think if you distract her with things like trying on jumbo sized sombreros, you can buy yourself some extra shopping/browsing/exploring time. We did not end up doing the Phineas & Ferb thing, but we did it when it was still Kim Possible and that would probably be fun for Maddie as well (parent confession: we did it when Adison was asleep in her stroller 2 years ago). I think it is really meant for age 5+ because they have to be able to comprehend the clues to really get what they are doing.

I love the passport too! I have done passports for Adison the past 2 years and she didn't use them a lot so I skipped it this year, but next I think I will do it again because I think she would understand more what it's about :)

California Grill vs. 4. Jiko

Oh, it's getting harder...

Chef Mickey's or Be Our Guest, oh that is so hard, but how can Chef Mickey not be there... I mean, such a classic with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and Donald. So, yes...

Chef Mickey Got the fab five!
'Ohana Got the Poly with a wishes, and the coconut races
Columbia Harbor House Got the MK

And, for your last day:

'Ohana for breakfast
Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch
Chef Mickey for dinner

Can't wait to hear all about your trip, as it doesn't look like our trip is going to happen, well, it's more that it's not going to happen this year. A bit disappointed for sure. It was always iffy, but now it's pretty definite. Just can't change my ticker. Not sad. Disappointed, but we've had three fabulous years of Disney, and you know that can't be bad! :hippie:

And, can't wait to see more your projects!

Oh goodness I never put in my guesses!
Let's go with...

Signature/Celebrity Chef: California Grill

Character/Dinner Show: Chef Mickey's-Tough going with family traditions and I haven’t eaten at Be our Guest...yet!!!

Hope you had a good week.

Signature/Celebrity Chef

1. California Grill - I read that the just updated it again and the DVC view for Wishes is something I will try one day!!! Also...we are sushi lovers so CG is the clear choice.

Character/Dinner Show

5. Be Our Guest - never eaten at either place, but BOG being new makes me want to try it more that CM...Also, no having no children and knowing what I have read about the CM food makes me lean even further towards BOG.

Table Service

1. 'Ohana - this was a tough one...we LOVE LOVE LOVE Boma's breakfast buffet...but Ohana at dinner is the best meal we have had at WDW to date. We would go back every trip if we could!

Counter Service

4. Columbia Harbor House - we avoid them both, really. I am allergic to most BBQ sauce and we always eat at Pinocchio's in MK because we love it. I haven't really heard much about CHH thought...is it good?

Can't wait to see your sewing pictures! Happy Friday!!

thank you for voting! I really loved 'Ohana too. I can't wait to go back!

Jiko!! I don’t know why but I definitely love African food, so it wins that round for me!

Be Our Guest, duh

Ohana, since I voted for Jiko earlier, and I have yet to eat at Ohana, but don’t worry, I have an ADR for June! Bahaha.

Flame Tree! There’s just more stuff there that I would actually eat!

So glad you had fun at 1900 usually breakfast has been a miss for us because of waiting for Alice and the Hatter to get around to the table, lol.

I have no waterpark tips as I’ve never been before, odd because my pass covered them, but whatevs lol. I believe the lockers are a total of 12, with a 5 deposit you get back when you return the key, or at least that’s what they are at the parks.

Imma say:
Ohana breakfast
LTT lunch
Chef Mickey’s dinner

Thanks for the locker info! We may actually make use of them in the parks once or twice this year. I think we'll be toting some costume changes. :rotfl:

WOW, down to the last 3 ADRS!! Well here it goes... fingers crossed that I pick the right order! :goodvibes

Thanks for voting, and for playing! You're doing REALLY well!

I'm confused. Are you, or are you not going to Park Fare that morning? Or did you just pretend you are going just for the game because you changed your ADR after the game started?

As for Typhoon Lagoon, here's what I remember. I don't remember the exact price of the locker, but I do know they give you back 5$ when you bring back the key. I find the locker useful, as I don't like to leave my key/wallet and stuff out on a chair. We rented a towel. We preferred to pay the 2$ than to have to lug around a wet towel. We also bought a little waterproof container that goes around your neck to put our KTTW in, but we didn't use it last time. If you do use it, make sure it doesn't fly out when the giant waves hit you.

Speaking of the waves, they are STRONG! Also, the bottom of the pool is kinda rough so be careful. I think it might be better if one of you goes in the pool first (while the other stays with Maddie in the very shallow portion) to check the strength of the waves at different depth and see where you would prefer to stand. Oh, I just remembered, the pool opens up wide at the entrance, so if you stand way off to the side the waves will be way less strong.

I think you made an excellent decision by purchasing a waterproof camera. You'll love to be able to get photos on slides and in the pool! Don't forget to turn the camera towards you and either film or take a picture (selfie) as you go down a slide. It's also awesome to go underwater and film/take pictures. Very cool and such a different perspective. Just make sure to always have the strap around your wrist. There are photopass people at the bottom of Crush n Gusher, in the wave pool, in the lazy river, and at the entrance of the park.

For the slides, there are lots that Maddie can go on with you. Almost all the tube slides have double tubes (triple in the case of Crush n Gusher). The mat slides are also lots of fun, and Maddie will most probably just float on the mat at the end. It's set up kinda like a "race", so you'll be arriving at the bottom more or less at the same time. Don't forget to get her a life vest if she doesn't feel comfortable in the water. She can go on all the slides (I think) with it. I haven't checked the kiddie area, but I'm sure she'll have lots of fun in there. I would wait to visit it until later in the day though. Same for the pool and lazy river. Reserve those precious morning hours for the slides. Crush n Gusher, and the different "Falls" (Mayday, Keelhaul and Gangplank) should be your first stops (check the height limit, but I think Maddie should be fine).

Wow, I didn't know I would write so much! Oh, one last thing! Make sure to try those donuts from the little stand. They are divine!!! You can go re read my TL days on both my 2009 and 2011 TR if you want more info.

Mel, thank you so much for all of the info. I had heard that the wave pools are not to be underestimated. You did rent a towel huh? I don't know why, but it really annoys me to be charged for that! :rotfl:I'm not usually one to complain about costs at WDW, but that one gets to me! :lmao:

I'm so glad to hear that there are a few slides that we can go on together, I know that's the part Maddie is most looking forward to. I never really thought about having a 'rope drop' strategy for TL, but that makes a LOT of sense. Thanks again!

I did play along about 1900 PF for the sake of the game. We really did plan to do it on Day 6 until about 2 weeks ago. It just didn't make as much sense to go day 6, so we switched it to day 1! Sorry for the confusion

All caught up finally!! I LOVE Maddie's luggage! I also love all of your sewing and the passport! If you don't mind me asking...which waterproof camera did you decide on? I was looking at getting one for this summer, but I can't decide which one to get!

Your trip is looking so awesome!!

Thank you! She is sooo excited about that luggage!

We got the Nikkon Coolpix S30. I haven't had the chance to play around with it much, but I plan to take it to the pool with us before the trip.

1. Columbia Harbor House...again I seem to be in the minority, but I've never had much of a desire to do Flame Tree, although maybe someday I will for the pulled pork sandwich.

Thanks for voting! We haven't tried Flame Tree either. It seems so popular, but we're not really BBQ people. :confused3

I've been to Typhoon Lagoon, but it has been a long, long time! I don't remember any of the details about the towels or locker rental. I just remember the lifeguard diving in to pull my mom out of the wave pool. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: I'm sure you'll all enjoy it though. There's a lot of fun stuff to do and the theming is great for a water park.

Tournament:
Jiko: I'd like to try it and I just don't like sushi. The only reason I'd like to go to CG would be drinks, dessert and the view.
CM: This is a tough one, and I'm sure BoG will win (and it probably should) but I don't want to give it a free pass to the end. I love both of these places and would put both on a must do list for us.
Ohana: An endless supply of meat brought to your table is always hard to beat.
Flame Tree: Sorry, but I think CHH is overrated. Kind of like I said with Ohana... Flame Tree might not be an endless supply of meat, but theres plenty there to fill you up and then some.

Guesses
Breakfast - Ohana
Lunch - Liberty Tree Tavern

I'm going with....

LOVE your Passport!!! You did an amazing job! And, thanks for the shout out! I'd recommend that you have a little scratch pad to translate exactly what the different cast member write. I didn't do that the first time, and luckily my workplace is very diverse. 'oh excuse me, do you speak Chinese?, Arabic? Japanese?' Everyone I asked was very polite and didn't seem to mind that I might have been stereotyping, but it worked! :hippie:

There all sorts of really creative things for kids on the creative DISign thread. I have the template for a Flat Mickey with fun things to do while in Epcot, and along with a Animal Kingdom passport. I used them for invitations that the fairies leave at night, gift bag tags, luggage tags. I love doing all these projects. I'm not quite as creative as you and certainly don't know my way around a needle and thread. If interested in any, just pm me.

So sorry to be so late in responding. Been super busy, I just came back from Nashville for a conference. In fact, it was my first National conference and I was presenting!!! :scared1: But, it was awesome... we went, we saw, we conquered!!!

Not sure, but think I missed the voting last week... but you've got some really tough choices this week.... I'm back!

Great work! Karen

How awesome that you were chosen to present at a national conference! How did it go??

Thanks so much for the awesome idea, and for the kind words. I think Bryan is most excited about the passport (Maddie hasn't seen it yet). He's really into geography and such, so he's excited to share that with her.

We're really narrowing things down friends! This week's votes have advanced 4 more restaurants to the Elite 8!

Here's a refresher on last week's matchups:

Signature/Celebrity Chef

1. California Grill vs. 4. Jiko

The sushi and stellar view proved to be the clear favorite here as Cali Grill rode the wave to the Elite 8

Character/Dinner Show

1. Chef Mickey vs. 5. Be Our Guest

In the closest race in a while family favorite Chef Mickey ran up against new upstart favorite Be our Guest. In fact we had a tie, and as has been my tie-break policy I made Bryan choose. He almost had to flip a coin! However, Bryan (and the majority of you) chose....

Chef Mickey!

Table Service

1. 'Ohana vs. 5. Boma

Endless skewers of meat and the draw of the Polynesian proved too much for the African flavors of Boma

Counter Service

1. Flame Tree BBQ vs. 4. Columbia Harbor House

In a shocking upset Columbia Harbor House pulled off the victory over Flame Tree. (and afwdwfan probably just abandoned the PTR)

Here's how the bracket looks this week:

And, next week's match-ups are:

Signature/Celebrity Chef

2. Le Cellier vs. 6. Narcoossee's

Character/Dinner Show

2. Crystal Palace vs. 3. Cinderella's Royal Table

Table Service

2. Via Napoli vs. 11. Whispering Canyon Cafe

2. Be Our Guest vs. 6. Earl of Sandwich

Remember to vote for the restaurant that you've enjoyed more in the past, or for the one that you'd most like to try! We're getting down to the end here folks!

Hey guys! I have a TON to share this week!

On the sewing front, I finished the Alice dress! I decided to make a replica of the one that Alice meets in at WDW instead of trying to stay true to the movie version. Also, Maddie will wear socks with her dress instead of tights in the Florida heat. I haven't gotten to the headband yet, but I will. She is SO excited to dress as Alice to meet Alice! I'm so glad we're taking the video camera this trip!

Terrible pictures, but for once Maddie wasn't in the mood for photos-she was very busy.

I could only find one picture of the back of Alice's dress, but from what I could tell it had a huge bow

And of course Carissa the AG needed some things for her first trip to WDW!

I know that I had posted a picture of the dress that I made Maddie to match the graduation dress I was making, but I ended up remaking it the next day. :rotfl: I finished Maddie's, and on Monday of this week she told me that Carissa needed one too.

The graduation was this evening, so I finally got to see the girls together in the dresses

and Carissa

I also wanted to try my hand at shirring or ruching, so I started with an AG dress. I'm working on one for Maddie too, and it should be done tomorrow!

On Tuesday of this week it was FINALLY time to start our countdown calendar!

For those of you not familiar with Kindergarten spelling it says "I can't wait to see Jessie at the place where dreams come true" :lovestruc

As the title states, I also got the best birthday present EVER this week. My birthday actually falls during our WDW vacation, so I assumed that it would be pretty low key gift wise this year. Apparently my husband had other ideas.

A little back ground:

In 2010 we were lucky enough to see Billy Joel and Elton John in concert at Wrigley Field (one of my favorite places on earth) for our birthdays. It was an incredible concert, and I told Bryan then and there that there were very few concerts I'd still feel the need to see after that. In fact there was only one act on the list: Paul McCartney.

Well, in 2011 Paul McCartney played Wrigley Field-on the day we flew to WDW. I was so disappointed to have missed it, and have mentioned that every single time I heard his name since then. :rotfl:

Flash forward to yesterday when DH came home from work and said he'd chosen a birthday present for me, but wanted to run it by me before purchasing. (He's purchasing tomorrow :cheer2:)

Are you ready for this????

We are flying to Boston to see Paul McCartney!!!! AT FENWAY PARK!!!!! How awesome is my husband??????

The only hiccup? The concert is 3 days before we leave for Disney :rotfl2: We'll fly out for the concert on Tuesday afternoon, fly back Wednesday morning, and we'll leave for WDW on Friday. We're certifiable. But excited!

Thanks so much for letting me share guys! Have a great weekend! "See" you next week!

Nice birthday present! :)

Crystal Palace
Whispering Canyon Cafe

In the closest race in a while family favorite Chef Mickey ran up against new upstart favorite Be our Guest. In fact we had a tie, and as has been my tie-break policy I made Bryan choose. He almost had to flip a coin! However, Bryan (and the majority of you) chose....

Chef Mickey!
I have to admit, I'm shocked. I realize I voted for CM, but I'm shocked. I guess I'm glad that BoG won't be facing BoG in the final matchup though. :rotfl2::lmao:

In a shocking upset Columbia Harbor House pulled off the victory over Flame Tree. (and afwdwfan probably just abandoned the PTR)
I'll stick around. It isn't your fault that so many of your readers are just wrong. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

On the sewing front, I finished the Alice dress! I decided to make a replica of the one that Alice meets in at WDW instead of trying to stay true to the movie version.
I think it looks great. As usual, I'm sure Maddie will be among the best dressed little girls in the park for her princess pictures! I'm sure those will be some excellent meet & greet pictures and video!

I know that I had posted a picture of the dress that I made Maddie to match the graduation dress I was making, but I ended up remaking it the next day. :rotfl: I finished Maddie's, and on Monday of this week she told me that Carissa needed one too.
They all look good! :thumbsup2

I also wanted to try my hand at shirring or ruching, so I started with an AG dress.
I have no idea what that means... but ok. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Has she really only seen Tiana twice???? That's hard to believe! :rotfl:

Tournament picks:

Le Cellier - Fillet and cheese soup for the win.,

Crystal Palace - This was a tough one. I'd love to try CRT, but CP is one we've done a few times and absolutely love.

Via Napoli - You've actually done it. You found the one matchup you could give me to make me not vote for Whispering Canyon. Well played.

Be Our Guest - Best quick service on property. This one should cruise to the finals. But if CHH takes this one out too, then I'm done. :crazy2: :rotfl:

O.M.G....that countdown calendar and sentence that Maddie wrote just warmed my heart!! :lovestruc

I LOVE Kindergarten spelling - the whole....write how it sounds! My sister teaches 1st grade and her daughter (my fab niece!!) starts Kindergarten in July (year round school down here!!) and I just LOVE IT!!

ok, back to the food - and Im a little sad that there is NO WAY Im winning this thing..I had such high hopes....:rotfl2:

I could only find one picture of the back of Alice's dress, but from what I could tell it had a huge bow

And you should take a huge bow, yourself. Nice job on all the dresses! :worship:

The graduation was this evening, so I finally got to see the girls together in the dresses

Too bad Maddie didn't have Carissa in hand when you shot the two girls. But (again) nice job. Both girls look very pleased with their dresses.

For those of you not familiar with Kindergarten spelling it says "I can't wait to see Jessie at the place where dreams come true" :lovestruc

Familiar with it? That's where my emotional and intellectual level is at!

I had no problem reading it.

In 2010 we were lucky enough to see Billy Joel and Elton John in concert at Wrigley Field

well.... colour me jealous. I had tix to see Sir John a couple of years ago and I had to cancel at the last minute....

We are flying to Boston to see Paul McCartney!!!! AT FENWAY PARK!!!!! How awesome is my husband??????

Apparently more awesome then me. What a great gift!

The only hiccup? The concert is 3 days before we leave for Disney :rotfl2: We'll fly out for the concert on Tuesday afternoon, fly back Wednesday morning, and we'll leave for WDW on Friday. We're certifiable. But excited!

Certifiable? Well it sounds like something I'd do... so, probably. :rotfl:

WHAT? No flame tree BBQ. That really stinks! And no Boma either? Oh well O'hana does have delicious meat......

2. Le Cellier

Character/Dinner Show
3. Cinderella's Royal Table

Table Service

2. Via Napoli- PIZZA!

Counter Service

2. Be Our Guest -delicious food! Location is amazing and beautiful

Maddie's dresses are beautiful! Love the alice dress!

Le Cellier!!!!! I can’t not pick it, that filet is too delicious!

CRT: castle, princess, service, it’s better!

Via Napoli: Haven’t tried either but I hear there’s cute Italian boys here…

BOG

Oh my gosh that Alice dress is so cute! I need one! (a mini one that is…lol) That was the biggest complaint on my Alice dress, that the bow wasn’t big enough, that bow is HUGE. So excited to see Maddie meet Alice! Are you guys going to attempt/do a trip video??

Adorable countdown calanders, that’s too cute! And hey, I don’t think kindergarten spelling is far off from the abbreviations we see in texting nowadays…those are more confusing to me…

What a fantastic birthday present!!! It’s sure to be a blast!!
