You look younger......is this a compliment?

I just changed my hair style and have heard over and over this week that everyone loves the new style and that I look sooo much younger. Would you say that looking younger is a compliment as opposed to looking old? Someone told me today I looked like I was in my 20's (I will be 39 in two months), that I feel is a compliment, but I really wonder how old I looked before! LOL

I'd take it as a compliment. But it does make you wonder how bad you were looking before, doesn't it. Sometimes a new cut will do wonders if it is right for you.

There is an exchange in the movie When Harry Met Sally that is very similar so it was the first thing I thought of when I read your post, lol.

I think it is meant as a compliment but it's difficult not to wonder what people must've thought beforehand.

Depending on who tells me, I take it as a compliment or an insult. Most of my friends tell me I look very young for my age (no freshman 15 here!), but I don't like being told I look 12 either. This often happens when I'm bumming around the house in baggy clothes though...

I took it as a great compliment. Let me explain. I just had my hair done lst night it has been sometime and I was really starting to show a lot of gray, my 1st coloring happened last night. I met my DH and DS for dinner afterward at a restaurant we frequent and usually I am the 1st to arrive so I always ask for the porch area. My DH kept looking out through the glass to find me and he didn't see me. Well I was not hidden by any means, so he calls me and I tell him to come through the door to the porch as I am right there. He looks at me and says "You look so much younger" and smiled. My DH isn't one to compliment all the time so I really appreciated it. I smiled at him and said thank you, you have made my day. My DS couldn't get over it either. I didn't realize how gray my hair was until I had it colored back to its real color. We have been married since we were 19 and it is 30 years in Feb. He can still make me smile and laugh. It is really nice....

It's our youth-obsessed culture. Why is it better to look young than your age? I'm proud of my gray hairs, I earned them.

I always like the comments I get at work (particularly if I have a new outfit on). They will say "Well, aren't you looking fabulous TODAY!" If it's someone I know well (and especially a man ) I will say "Just today?" as if I looked like dog poop yesterday...

I wasn't over analyzing it, just wondering (in fun), how "old" I must have looked before.

I do have to admit that all of the compliments are good for the ego.
