what are MKA dolls & what is BIN ?? thanks

Hi Vals,

I think MKA dolls are Madame Alexander, though not positive about the 'K' in there.

BIN is "Buy-it-now".

Beware everyone: I received two of those spoof emails supposedly from Ebay in the last twelve hours!

Do any of you use Fed Ex Ground for shipping? I was using them last year, but they require a phone # of the person you are mailing to. I found I was having a hard time getting the phone # - not because the buyer didn't want to give it to me, I just don't think they were reading the part in my message that I needed it. Is there a way to get around this? I do prefer Fed Ex because their shipping was cheaper than USPS, and tracking and insurance are free (up to $100).

Try UPS ground.... they also have free insurance up to $100 and I believe free tracking also. You can go to a UPS counter or a UPS store or a Staples (and probably Office max and Office Depot)....P

Pull the contact info when they don't give you the phone number. It's an extra step, but you'll just need to do it for those who don't give it.

I went back to page 266 to find this post. MKA are the Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls, far as I can tell.

Well thanks to DH's 'help', I only managed to list one set of MK & Ashley dolls tonite. I had such plans. Day 10 of this cold has exhausted me and by the time I am healthy the buying season will be done!

I did offer free Priority Shipping with Insurance if they chose the BIN price. Hope that helps.

Just a note on Insurance - you can still print your Priority Label with DC online, but you will have to pay at the PO to purchase the insurance.

Now off to do a payment reminder from someone who bid 5 minutes b4 auction end but can't bother to pay.........

I just set up Winning Buyer Notification and invoicing with PayPal. I didn't think I had to go to PayPal to have the invoices sent to my buyers, that PayPal would send them automatically "within an hour of the auction's end". From the emails I haven't gotten (I checked to receive a copy), I assume they are not going to the buyer as well. Do I need to go to PayPal to manage the invoicing and WBN emails to buyers? I turned those notices on so I wouldn't have to continue with the follow-up of my own. 4 notices should have gone out, only one went automatically when the buyer paid instantly. Any tips on using these services?

I've never had a problem with it and never had anything pulled for wording it that way.

It's never a problem, until someone reports you..eBay could care less until that point : )

I signed up for Airborne, but for me and my 1#3 oz packages, it seemed Priority was still best. Do they have some deal with eBay that gives Power Sellers a discount? Any ideas what I'm figuring wrong, and should Airborne be cheaper? Does Airborne put the actual postage amount on the package?

If you do pull up their contact info and there is no phone number, I just leave it all zeros on the FedEx ship bill and haven't had a problem so far. I wouldn['t do it on regular basis, but if I am stuck and they are not replying to emails or giving the right info, there is not much more I can do.

I know some shippers put their own phone number on it, but I don't see the point in that.

I believe if you pull the contact info, and there is no phone number, and you report it, they get suspended, don't they?

I never knew that FedEx is cheapter than the post office. Am I reading that correctly or is it just in some certain circumstances?

I haven't compared the prices recently, but yes, when I was using FedEx Ground their rates were cheaper than USPS.

Kris,
I used the PayPal invoicing for a while (maybe a month or so) and finally stopped due to inconsistency. When they went out timely they were great, but there came a period when they were taking anywhere from days to weeks to generate and it was just embarrassing. I'd have a buyer who'd paid within minutes of auction end, and they'd get a PayPal invoice later and think I was confused, disorganized or otherwise messed up. So I turned them off and use the eBay invoice manually if the payment is not made instantly.

HTH,
Joy

I started to sign up for Airborne online and it asked how many packages I shipped per month. I've forgotten what I put in but it gave me a messgae that I may qualify for a discount and a number to call. I called and they set it up for me. They did tell me that if my volume decreased a lot, the discount could change or be dropped all together. I was told I'd be given 14 days notice before it was eliminated and as of yet I still have it. I send things that can go first class mail (less than 13 oz) through the USPS as things that I can fit into a flat rate priority mail envelope that would cost more than $3.85 to send Airborne. For a 1 lb package to most locations I spend about $3.15. For a 3 lb package it's around $3.75-$4.00 as opposed to $5.50+ for USPS parcel post.
No, airborne does not print the actual postage amount on the labels but I believe you can look it up on the web site. Not 100% certain about that, I'll have to check on it.

I never knew that FedEx is cheapter than the post office. Am I reading that correctly or is it just in some certain circumstances?

Unless you have some type of discount it is usually only cheaper for packages that weigh 3 lb or more. It may be cheaper for lighter things that you are including insurance and delivery confirmation on b/c FedEx, UPS or Airborne Ground all include package tracking and insurance up to $100 for no additional charge. Insurance is cheaper with this carriers for amounts over $100 than the post office as well.

I forgot to add that I may have had to sign up with Airborne as a business. Since I have a business and resale license it wouldn't have been a problem to do that. It's been more than a year since I signed up with them so I don't remember if I had to do it that way or not.

I've been really happy with everything through them. You can even get free boxes through them for shipping in. According to my rep, by the official rules the boxes are for air shipments but they are not charging for them with ground shipping. He said they are just happy to have the extra business so unless there is a dramatic up swing with the economy very soon he didn't expect that to change.

Sorry - I should have been more descriptive. I hear MKA all the time! DD got VERY mad because I sold both sets of dolls. She wanted one set - she will be 11 in a couple of weeks and I told her I have not even seen her play with a Barbie in 9 months so she wasn't getting Mary Kate & Ashley!!! BIN is Buy It Now.

PROBLEM!!! (sorry - hit enter too soon!)

Received an email today - 'since I am the only bidder at this time, is there a Buy It Now price you could give me so I don't have to wait for my tree topper). I am not sure what the proper response is on this. The item is nothing that exceptional & I don't know that it has a lot of value. The buyer however has 0 feedback but has been registered since June so I assume they have paypal set up. I have been thru this thread from top to bottom at different times & I am sure that I have read the response to this, but my memory fails me. To be honest, despite the fact this item has had a lot of views, I don't know that it is going to go any higher or is worth more than what I have on it. But I don't want to risk my account by screwing up on Ebay. I was REALLY hoping someone else would bid so I didn't have to worry about saying yes or no. Here is the topper -

HELP!!!! What is the 'law' on this.

I am sooooo embarassed! I just had that same thing happen with PayPal winning bidder notification! I had 2 auctions that ended 2 weekends ago. They have already been paid for and mailed, and I just now receive a copy of the PayPal notification to the buyers sent on my behalf requesting payment! I immediately e-mailed the buyers apoligizing for the e-mail. I hope this doesn't jeopardize my 100% feedback. I also sent a complaint e-mail to PayPal, but I'm sure it will immediately by filed in the "round file". Arggggh!

To Jgates.... I personally wouldn't let it go for a BIN unless that had been originally offered. Sorry if she has to wait, but thems the breaks!! Maybe it is some rare valuable collectible you don't know about and she doesn't want anyone else to get in on it!! (ha, ha) I suppose you hate to lose the sale, in case she doesn't bid (did she??), but it doesn't seem fair to end the auction early (which is essentially what you would be doing) just because she is being impatient. I don't really know what the e-bay rules are on this... just my opinion......P:D

Do not end any auction early. You never know what it might end for, it might be the original opening bid or it might be much more. It still has 5 more days.

jgates, I'm with the rest of the group. Considering that you set up the auction as a 7 day listing, you have every right to let the item run its course and see if Sunday brings you last minute bidders.

You might point out to the bidder that although she is the only bidder right now, auctions typically get last minute bids and you would like the opportunity for that to happen if possible.

Been reading the Sparedollar Community forum lately and a fellow just ended early for $125 for a Mr. Peanut matchbook that was already up to over $50 with 5 or 6 days still to go. Everybody advised against it, but he did it anyway. Here is the auction:

Mr. Peanut Matchbook

Just doesn't seem like a good idea for the most part, IMHO!
