Question about Buy it Now, if you offer it both as auction and buy it now, which list fee to you pay? Example you list an item with a starting bid of say $9.99 but have buy it now of $24.95 do you pay the $.30 list or the $.55 listing?

I would like to know more about that too as I read the ebay information and was not clear about the fee information.

I had an auction end 11/2. The buyer replied to the invoice that a money order/cashier's check would be sent shortly. On 11/10 I sent the buyer a payment reminder. As of today I still have not heard from the buyer or received payment. I just looked at the feedback rating for this person and there are 8 complaints this month for non-payment and no communication.

I've sent her another email requesting contact or payment be made within 7 days or I will post negative feedback and file NPB alert. Did I follow protocol? How long would you wait? She was not the only bidder. When can I offer the 2nd chance to the next highest bidder? TIA.

Using your prices above, you'd pay:

.30 listing for starting bid price of $9.99
.05 BIN fee
Plus any other optional fees i.e. additional pics, 10-day listing, supersize, etc.

times the # of listing categories... so if you just went with the .35 itemized above, only the 1 free pic and no gallery, but you listed it in 2 categories, you'd pay .70. Only one category, it would be .35.

Then, when your item sells, you pay the FVF on the selling price!

So, if a buyer uses BIN, ebay is getting the initial nickel they charged you, plus the nice high FVF.

How many people list in more than one category and why?

I see this option but can't understand the usefulness of it.

When I search for an item, I search by the name brand or item (such as dress, pants, toy name etc.)

The only adjustment I would have made to your process above was where you say:

"payment be made within 7 days or I will post negative feedback and file NPB alert"

.... it sounds as if you plan to post the negative feedback at the same time as you will do the NPB alert. I believe you could have actually initiated the NPB alert today, as it was 7 days after your payment reminder. The NPB you could file today would give the buyer 10 days to pay before you could then request your final value fees back. Remember, the act of filing for the FVF credit is also the act that gets the buyer the strike against his/her account on the way to becoming NARU (Not A Registered User). It is that part, not the actual feedback, that has the most impact.
I think it would be advisable to wait for the outcome of the 10-day NBP alert period before doing your 2nd chance offer and posting the neg.
JMHO - I wish others would add their insight.

How about a Disney License Plate holder? If you researched this and found that one had sold from the Collectables/Disneyana/??? whatever category, and another had sold listed under ebay Motors/parts and accessories, you might choose to list it under both categories. This way you'd attract people who are just browsing for things for their car, as well as Disney fans who are looking for souveniers.

You want to be able to justify the extra fees, so it would need to be an item you expect a high final price for.

Thank you Mrs. Snowgod. NO, It wasn't my intent to do both at the same moment. I'm hoping to get a response. I think I will file the NPB tomorrow and see if it grabs the buyer's attention.

Cpl100, there are many people who search by category. I've learned this by watching my Andale counters. If a book is not getting many hits in one category, I'll switch it to another category, and will sometimes see a big upswing in hits. A lot of collectors are real fanatics and want to look at EVERYTHING related to whatever they collect. For instance, I love old medical books and implements and will often browse the medical collectibles categories.

That said, listing in two categories makes Ebay fees add up really fast, so I don't do it that often, generally just with items that I think have a lot of collector interest and will go for a good sum.

My auctions just ended and the results were less than stellar.

36 items up for auction.

Over 700 "looks".

35 bids.

12 items sold.

At least I won't go crazy this week trying to get it all packed and shipped. {{sigh}}

I had 15 relisted items end last Thursday and only 2 sold, both on the starting bid.

One last item was a 10-day and ended this evening. It sold at the opening bid, and that bid was placed 15 minutes before the auction ended.

Discouraging, indeed.

I hope we see some incredible last minute rush with mega-bids next week and the week after.....

I bet if you mention in your listing that you'll provide the option of rush shipping with next-day package departure, you could reasonably increase your handling charge (if needed for extra P.O. trips) and attract concerned last minute buyers.

Out of 44 auctions, only 2 had bids within 1 minute of auction ending, of those 42 without bids 26 of them sold in that last minute for a total of 28 selling, 16 not. I am happy with this because those auctions netted me about $200.

Now all those 42 auction 24 were won by one person. This package weighs close to 50 pounds. I have no clue how to mail this now, I can not lift the box to carry it into the PO to mail it. I am thinking I will have to split it into mulitple packages, its the only way I can think of. They are all magazines except for one video and one book. I had planned on sending them priority flat rate (unless buyer asked for bound printed). I guess I will have to try to find some boxes or something.

Well off to figure out how to send these all!

Yes that is what sold, it is the only thing I had up for auction. I was agonizing all day about having only 2 bid on my items (44 total) and in the end I did okay. I am happy.

Well, all my 10 day auctions ended tonite and I am pretty pleased. Only about 8 things didn't sell and I relisted all of them. Hope to do as well next week as we only have 2 1/2 weeks until we leave for Disney!!!

I am very happy tonight as well. I had 9 items up for sale and 8 sold. Two sold for much more than expected. Up until the last minute one item didn't have a bid until a buyer slipped in for the minimum at the last minute (literally). I was surprised at that.

The only downfall is that I was so excited watching my first few bidding wars on my items that I got nothing listed tonight....

HI!

I have 67 things listed right now but I also have about 80 - 100 that I wish I had time to list. We have designated the little bedroom in our house as the Ebay shop. I have rubbermaid bins full of items ready to be listed if I can just find the time.

From past experiece, I find that my sells really pick up the week of Thansgiving through about a week and a half before Christmas. I hope everyone has great auction luck in the weeks to come and an Ebay discount (free listing day) wouldn't be bad either. Either last year or the one before they had a free listing day right around Thanksgiving. If anyone hears of one -- please pass it on and if I hear about it.... I will do the same!

Well, 9 auctions, 160 hits and only 2 sold. One for the starting price and another was bid up .50 over the starting price in the last minute. Net profit after subtracting all fees (not the relist fees)- $12.64. Kind of depressing. I did receive immediate payment via paypal for both auctions that sold - and I mean immediate! So consequently they paid my premier acct so that was more in fees too. At least I rounded the mailing fee by .50 or so and that helped with my time and the fees and gives me a little cushion for those days I calculate incorrectly.

I did relist 6 of the 7 unsold items and hoping since a few are beautiful girls Xmas dresses that they will go.

If anyone gets bored, mine are listed under jgates - tell me what I am doing wrong. Last summer when I sold stuff it went fine- now it just sits.

I guess $12.64 is enough for what???????????? Got it!!! Developing 52 vacation photos from my digital camera at WalMart!!!!! Good for something!!!

And......if I am reading Amazon right it is .99 plus 15% if I were selling books? I guess it would be kind of nice for books - they probably don't have as much of a guarantee for selling on Ebay.

It would be kind of nice to just have it there in the background with the holidays coming up......Maybe I should inventory those Time-Life series I have collecting dust on my bookshelves and list them on Amazon tomorrow night. Someone might get the idea to complete a list for Xmas.
