UGH....I haven't had much luck either! Ebay is not kind to me in the way of sales.....I still haven't figured out why. I put words that I think would pop up in search - I offer BIN w/Free shipping - I never start the price at higher than I paid for it (usually WAY under) - and still nothing!! I know some of you said that customers don't usually use it right, but I'm thinking of putting it in there anyway. How do you go about doing that?

I've got a little over 20 items up, with bids on about half. My DD is going through my DGD8 outgrown clothes so I might add that stuff tonight. I bought 37 magazines at a yard sale for .10 a piece Saturday and they're selling for $3..50 & up....surprised me! I think I messed up though, I listed 5 and got bids on them right away...so I got excited and put up 7 more...I think I saturated the market. Might know I'd mess it up.

Magazines can be great, but they are hard to pinpoint. I've had my greatest success selling lots, and writing much detail about the articles, writers and/or photographers - of course, depending on the subject matter.

If your mags are technical, list the article titles and probably don't worry about the writer/photographer info. If they are travel or other highly visual magazines, then that info may be pertinent. If you don't sell them all right away, wait and do a few issues or lots at a time. Timing can be very relevant.

I had 11 1944 issues of a magazine pertinent to the Military, and listed one very successfully. The second one sat for 2 weeks with no bids. I planned to save them all until closer to Veteran's Day. But then the winner of the first one emailed me asking if I had more, and bought the lot from me for a very nice sum. So, you never know.

Sorry, I've not tried the postage calculator feature, so hopefully someone else will help you there.

I posted a while back that I rec'd neg feedback because and item I sold was broken in shipping and the buyer said that I never replied to her emails. (didn't get any). I refunded her money + shipping charges both ways and she emailed me thanking me very much for being so understanding.

Do I reply to her that it would be greatly appreciated if she retracted her neg feedback? Or is this not polite?

As you all know I started selling (finally)...I have an auction ending today and now I'm getting nervous. Can some one explain to me the step by step process of checking out...

I'm going to ship priority mail and I'm going to TRY to print out the label. Can I add insurance and delivery conformation on line or do I have to go to the post office to do that. I llive in a small town and I don't know if the postal workers here even know about the on line labels and services.

When the auction ends and if the winner pays through paypal (I opened up a premier account, so I can accept credit cards), and pays, does paypal send me a notice that they paid, and is the money in my account immediately or do I have to wait for a few days.

I'm so nervous just thinking about this auction ending that I'm not even excited that I got any bids, I'm just worried I screw up.

Please, when one of you experienced sellers has some time, can you tell me what to do (step by step).

I do know that if they pay by money order, I wait until I get it and then ship the item out. But this cc thing and paypal, I'm clueless.

Also, when does e-bay and paypal take their fees. Do they take it out of my account automaticaly or do I send it to them. I think I go t my account in e-bay and pay them by either sending them a check or using my cc they have. Do I do the same thing with paypal, will paypal send me a notice of what I owe them.

Oh my, what have I gotten myself into. Believe me I read this thread and the community boards on ebay every day, but now being its my first sell, my mind is BLANK......Thanks so much...

Okay... First of all, calm down.. No need to be scared 'cause we're here to help you along - okay?

When the auction ends, you will get an "end of auction" notice from ebay.. Also, it will show on your "My eBay" page that the auction has ended.. It may prompt you to send an invoice - or if it's paid by cc it may appear as paid within minutes..

Ebay takes their fees monthly.. Their due around the 15th, but I have it taken from a bank account automatically and they never get around to actually taking it until the last week of the month..

Paypal will take their fee immediately (you don't have to do anything) and you will see that reflected on their invoice..

Hope this makes sense - I have a killer migraine today..

If your customer pays with Paypal, Paypal will send you a notice that you have received a payment. You just log into your paypal account and on the main page click on the detail button to the right of the name of the payee and it will tell you what item they are paying for. From this page you can also print a nice packing slip to include with your shipment. If they pay by auto debit or by cc the money is there immediately. If they pay by e-check you wait about 3 days. Once the money is in your account paypal will automatically take their fees and than post the rest to your account. Just take a deep breath and you'll do fine.

Okay all you experts out there, quick question. I tried to use my paypal debit card over the weekend and it wouldn't work. The cashier tried running it 3 different times as a credit card and she kept getting a message that said "not available for credit", it didn't decline, I hab plenty of money in my account. She said that she had never seen that before. Does anyone else know what this means? I haven't tried using my card since because I don't want the same think to happen. I thought we could use the card as either credit or debit and to get the % back had to be credit. Any ideas????

You'll be fine, dg39... here are a few more answers:

You can add the DC (delivery confirmation) on line, but for the insurance you need to go to the post office, because they need to stamp "insured" on the package and validate your insurance slip. Try to print a receipt from your postage program, as they need to see that to verify the details on your insurance slip.

You'll receive an email within minutes of PayPal receiving the payment. This message is presented as if it is from the email address of the buyer. I like to use that to reply to, and I have a draft saved that goes like this:

"Hi ______,

Thank you for your purchase and for your speedy payment. I'll be mailing your package tomorrow.

I will leave positive feedback for you on eBay, and will appreciate your doing so for me after your package arrives safely."

I just paste that into my reply and customize it as needed.

When you get the PayPal payment notice, click the link to go into the transaction (you will be prompted to enter your password), and at the bottom of the transaction detail, there is a button that says "create an invoice". I always click on that and print the simple invoice that PayPal provides. Just use your printer icon at the top of the page rather than the "print" button on the invoice - I always get an error if I try the latter.

Hope that helps. As you go through the process, you'll do fine. It seems daunting at first, but take it step by step and it will get easier with each new sale.

Okay - a couple of silly questions.. How long have you had the card? Did you "activate" it through the Paypal site? Have you used it before?

Also, you only get cash back if you use it as a credit card - NOT a debit card..

If it's already been activated (or you have used it already) then I would send an email to Paypal right away and ask what the problem is..

I activated it as soon as I got it and tried to use it about 4 days later. When I go out to the paypal website it shows my card as active. I will try e-mailing Paypal and see if they can tell me what the problem is. Thanks for your response.

I just got my first negative feedback, and I am so mad!! I put in my auctions that I do not accept credit card payment. Well, I guess I've learned that people don't read. I decided to go ahead and put the little paypal logo in so people knew I accepted it. In my payment methods I put to see item description for methods accepted. In my description, I put that I don't take credit cards. In my payment terms I put that I don't accept credit cards. Still, people don't know how to read. Everyone that purchased from me was great after I told them that I don't accept credit cards except for one person. Because I made enough money off of the auction, I decided to go ahead and let them pay with a credit card, and I told them they'd have to pay to a different account. So, they pay again, and it goes to the same account that is not credit cards. So, I decline it, and I tell them that I will send them a request for money. They said they paid in one email. They emailed me to a different email address (the one that is tied in with the credit card account, after I told them not to email me there) and said that it came back denied. So, I even tried to send money to myself to make sure it worked. I paid a few on my own money! It worked fine. I then emailed the person and told them this. This morning I get online, and they have emailed me the following:

yes i have a slip saying that i paid bagboy 11.58 for the item so i don't know what the problem is,if you want i don't feel like being bothered with this and is too much of an incoviencce for me so i want to cancel my bid you can put non paying bidder and i will put complicated purchase thats all. So bye and good luck selling your goods i have so many different receipts that i paid you the money and you don't have so just forget it i dont' have time cuz i have two kids bye.

Then I got onto my ebay account, and they left me negative feedback saying the following:

Complaint : Tried paying several times,they denied,Problematic Payment Options,Not Recommend

So because they can't read, and I decide to be nice and bend over backwards and help them, I get a negative feedback. ARR, I'm so mad. So, they are not paying for this auction. What do I need to do next? This is my first time trying to sell a lot of stuff. Can I tell you how mad I am right now???

File a non-paying bidder form to get your fees back. Then reply to her negative as nicely as possible.
Something like-

Credit cards not accepted as form of payment. Bidder didn't read payment instructions.

Don't get nasty in a reply because bidders will read your feedback and I as a buyer want to see how people reply to negatives.

Yep - I can tell how angry you are... But it's very important to keep a cool head in a situation like this or you could end up damaging your own reputation as a seller MORE than the neg that was left..

First of all, it doesn't sound like you were dealing with "the sharpest knife in the drawer.." Although the Paypal button usually indicates that you will accept credit cards it was still the buyers responsibility to read - and understand - your terms..

Seeings how they already left you a neg - without giving you the opportunity to just mutually cancel the deal (which I needed to do once with a problem buyer) - you should go ahead and file the NPB and request your final value fees within the appropriate time frame...

Next - you have the ability to respond to the neg that was left by this person but be very careful how you do so.. If you come across as being very angry and resentful it will only make the buyers complaint seem more valid.. I would say something nicely along the lines of:

"Buyer was unable to understand or adhere to normal payment instructions.." ..................... Or something along those lines.. Do not get nasty or it will come back to bite you in the butt sooner or later.. Just a nice, calm, rational explanation is all that is needed..

As for leaving them a neg - that's up to you.. Personally I wouldn't because for lack of a better phrase it just sounds like a dumb person - not a person who truly didn't want to pay.. That's up to you though.. Just wait till you calm down a bit before deciding..

If you have all positive feedback up to this point - and you respond in a professional manner - I really don't think that one neg will damage your otherwise good reputation...

Just stay cool - okay?

OK, Thanks for the input. I don't think that I want to leave a negative, because like you said, not the smartest person around. I think they'd just respond and say I was the problem. I have learned my lesson, though, with paypal. I'm just going to accept whatever they want to pay with. Too much of a hassle otherwise.

I have to admit that since I upgraded to a premier/business account - and accept all methods of payment - my "eBay life" has been MUCH easier and I am 100% sure that I've snagged more buyers than I previously had...
