I just want everyone to know that I have officially paid for my Disney cruise and Universal trip this November. The majority of the money came from Ebay. I added in a couple of incentive checks I received and about $1000 from income tax refunds. But in just a little over a year I have saved over $5000.

I am SO happy and I want to encourage anyone who is on the fence to give ebay a try and JUST DO IT!

Congratulations, Nuke!!! That is awesome! It is just amazing what can be done with some inspiration, motivation & a touch of perspiration!

And I think that when you get on a roll with the eBay profits coming in, it really encourages you to add to it by saving funds from other sources.

OK, C.Ann - please spill the beans - what were you doing for 20 minutes??? Was it freebie day somewhere?

Also, I have two paypal accounts. One that accepts credit cards and one that does not. I think I read that I can't pass along the fees for paypal, but if they want to use a credit card, and they email me, is it wrong for me to tell them that they have to pay the fees?

As far as asking for the fees, this is what is stated on the ebay site....

Payment: Surcharges Sellers may not charge eBay buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary forms of payment, including acceptance of checks, money orders, electronic transfers or credit cards. Such costs should be built into the price of the item-this policy reduces the potential for confusion among bidders about the true cost of an item. Further, some forms of payment surcharges, such as credit card surcharges, are forbidden under the laws of many states, including California.

But, I have still seen many auctions where people will say right in their auction that they want the fees if someone pays with paypal. I don't think that ebay reviews all/many of the auctions listed....possibly looking for more serious violations. My thought is that it is the cost of doing business, and quite honestly I think by accepting paypal, cash, check and credit card, makes it so much easier for most bidders. It also gives you a better turn around time, as so much time can be spent waiting for checks and money orders to clear.

Okay - this is close enough.. LOL

I came around the corner and a HUGE garage sale was just closing up.. They had TABLES that were FULL of stuff so I figured I could at least "look" while they were breaking it all down..

Imagine my surprise when they said - "You can have anything and everything for FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I didn't want to appear "greedy" (yeah - right! LOL) so I was walking around being rather "selective" and the next thing I know the guy is just loading stuff into my van like there's no tomorrow!! Now mind you - I have a BIG mini van and 3 of the 7 seats were out of it!! When he couldn't get anymore in, he all but begged me to come back for the rest.. I was tempted - REAL tempted - but by the time I got the van unloaded I figured some other eBay "addict" had probably driven by and scooped it up...

WOW!!!!! Am I ever going to be busy listing for awhile!!

I just LOVE Sundays - either the people are giving the stuff away, or it's dirt cheap.. Prior to hitting that sale I stopped at one where everything was 5 cents!!!

Now the down side (and yes, there is one) is that I had hoped eBaying would RID my house of clutter and instead I'm just dragging home more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But i couldn't say no to free - could I ???????? ;)

This is actually Paypal as well as eBay's rule, and most states, including CA where they are based. If the auction is reported whre someone is even mentioning the fees need to be paid (or if they just say handling cincluded PP fees)and that is the only way eBay would know, the person will either have all auctions closed, of if this has happened in the past, will be suspended. I build some of the fees into my handling or BIN prices..and don't explain my handling. My total s/h is in my auctions..people can then decide if they wish to bid.

I bought a book on ebay at the beginning of August , paid for it within hours of the auction closing and STILL have not received it!! The seller had a 99.1% postive feedback and it specified it the auction that they ship within 24 hrs(one of the reasones I bought from this seller) I have emailed several time with no answer...what now? I went back to the feedback page and now reading through I see a few people gave a positive but complained of slow shipping...but most praised the speedy shipping!
I hate to leave a negative(and get one in return....) but really this is insane! And I hate to do nothing! Even if I get the book today(which I did not!) I feel people should know about the super slow shipping and no reply to email.
Suggestions?????

Do you know WHERE the book was being shipped from? Or if the seller uses delivery confirmation?

If the book was shipped by media mail, it's really not unusual that you haven't received it yet.. I ship a LOT of books and while some will reach their destination in a week or so, others have taken as long as a month.. I can only assume that's why the media rates are so much cheaper..

Kelly, was the shiping method specified as Media Mail? And is the seller on the West coast, or otherwise pretty far from you? That could be the reason for the slowness. Also, keep in mind that eBay allows for sellers to have 30 days for shipping. At least that is stated frequently in the answer center. Here is a link to this page regarding feedback. I found it very enlightening.
eBay Answer Center - Feedback

I sympathize with your frustration, but before you leave a neg, be sure the seller is really in violation of rules. If he shipped Media Mail (and so stated in listing), then went on vacation, he may really not be doing anything wrong.

I had a buyer who paid for an item through paypal with a credit card, I specifically say no credit cards. So I denied the payment and emailed to explained method of payment I could/do accept. The email came back with "fatal errors." This is the same email she used to through ebay and paypal, so my guess is she won't get the declination from paypal. What do I do?

Pull contact info and call, or send a message via eBay using the invoicing feature - even if you have sent the invoice once, you can send a second one and use the special instructions field to explain what happened. You may want to wait a day, also. My ISP was down all day yesterday and at least one buyer got her messages back as rejected. Thank goodness it came back up today, but it is unsettling... we all may want to be a tad more patient than usual with the sobig.f virus activity.

Ya know I didn't even think about this. I will wait and try again later.

I think I had my first case of someone trying to pay for an auction that isn't theres.
Here's the situation......

Auction ended Saturday night. I sent invoices but haven't heard from them. Today I sent a separate email but it got sent back to me. After reading about some ISP's being down I figured I would wait another day and try again.
Now I get a notice from paypal that I received an instant purchase payment. The user id is the same but the amount was wrong and the note from the buyer said....When are you sending it? Nothing more. I thought that was odd and replied that I would send it when I get the complete payment. Then I noticed that the zipcode is totally different and the email address is totally different from the winning bidder so I requested contact info from ebay. These are two different people on two opposite ends of the country.
Now what do I do?

Now what do I do?

I would tell them that they are not listed as the buyer. Ask if they have moved, and if so, to supply you with the old phone number and email addy, so you can match it up. I would try calling that number (from the contact info), and see who answers..maybe you'll be given the new number, if they moved.

I reported mine to paypal and ebay..both said, it wasn't anything illegal, since they didn't "hack" the other person's accout. I was not a happy camper.

Hi everyone! I posted here for the first time a few days ago. I was going to wait until after the holiday to list for the first time, but just couldn't wait. So, tonight I listed my first auction and within an hour I had my first bid! I'm so excited!! I'm so happy I found this thread and really glad that I took the time (days..lol) to read through all the pages. All the info was priceless!

Congratulations on taking the plunge! It's wonderful that you have a bid so early - good for you!

Oops! Looks like we "snagged" another one! LOL

Watch out - it's terribly addictive!!!!! :)

And "Welcome Aboard", shay425!! :)

First of all, a big "Welcome" to all of you!!!

Just wanted to add a cautionary note here.. Initially the whole process will seem quite confusing, but as you become more familiar with the ins and outs of selling on eBay I promise it will make sense (well - "kind of" anyhow - LOL) and you won't feel quite so overwhelmed..

BUT - it won't always be "easy".. Sometimes things won't sell - sometimes things will sell that you never thought would sell - sometimes things won't sell that you were sure would sell - sometimes you may have to relist - maybe even relist again, with something new or different added to the item or the description - some weeks will be great - others will be the pits - some folks will pay right away - others you'll practically have to drag it out of them - some folks will never pay - some customers will be super nice - some will be super not-so-nice.....

There will be many twists and turns and bumps along the way - but if for the most part you enjoy it (and yes, I'm sure there will be some that don't) - and you choose to stay on track, stay motivated, and not give up, you can and will acheive your goals - be they big or small or somewhere in between..

We're all in this together - and we're all here to help when someone is stumped or needs a question answered.. It won't always be me answering because I'm still on the learning curve myself, but if I do know the answer to your question, I'll be more than happy to help..

We have a great bunch of ebay "veterans" that have jumped on board here to help as well so one way or another, we'll find an answer for you..

So what do you say?

Let's all go to Disney!!!!!!!

Yaaaaaaaaaay eBay!!!!!

It seems that with my auctions lately I have had a lot of people waiting until the absolute last minute to bid. While I realize that lots are watching until the end to snipe, I've never had SO many auctions go with no bids until the last 6 hours or so-wierd!!

Kelly-I would check back, as others have suggested, to see how they stated they would ship this. If it was Media Mail I would give it about 5-6 weeks, since it can take that long. When (hopefully) it arrives I would check to see the postmark date & then leave appropriate feedback. If you don't get it you can request the seller's contact info from eBay & try to contact them via phone or mail. Also-if you paid via PayPal I would contact them too. HTH!

Okay, I'm out of the closet. You fine folks got to me, plus a couple of friends from work just started selling too. I listed my first 4 things last week...just a "test run" on little things. Three sold and I made $30.49! I've got 23 things posted this week and already have bids on about six.

I wasn't going to post because I didn't know how it would work. But, I've been communicating back and forth with a lady I bought a couple things from and she's given me some tips. Most of the stuff she told me I already read here. She went to the eBay convention in Orlando this year and said there will be one in New Orleans next year...anybody from here go? She said at the convention they said, which you already know, to have auctions end on Sunday, but she also said that stuff geared toward men should start on Thursdays. I don't think I read that one here, but I've skipped around so I may have just missed it.

I still haven't gotten the postage thing down, and I checked out the USPS site and studied up on printing my own lables & buying postage, but I don't think my printer is good enough...it's an inkjet. Anyone know anything more on this?

Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know that you've snagged another one....eBaying thier way to Disney!

Any one out there if they can explain to me on how to make the countdown time frame I would appreciate it. We are new to the website and are going in December and my kids want to see that clock to watch the countdown.
Any help is appreciated.
Yeah I did it!!!!
Thanks:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:
