Has anyone had much luck with half.com? I have some books that are my Mother-in-Laws that she wants me to sell for her (don't ask how I got into this situation), but from what I can tell, they only sell for like $.75. She isn't sure that it is even worth the hassle. Of course, this is the same woman who had me list quite a few of her jewelry pieces and she put prices on them that I wouldn't even pay to a jeweler, let alone for me to buy sight-unseen over the internet. They aren't anything really special or collectible, just mainly paperback books (romance & thriller types) Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Sandy

-------------------------------

NOT !!!! :mad: This has got to be one of the worst days ever!!

I got the Paypal thing straightened out at least, but then I received an email from a possible bidder on an item I had up with a starting price of $3 and she wanted to know if I would lower it.. Shoot - how 'bout I just send it to you for free with the shipping and handling on me??? Sheesh!

I continue on to print out DC's for items that had to be mailed today (and of course the SA program kept freezing up my computer again) and I no sooner start packaging up the stuff to go out and I receive a phone call from my grown DD.. The doctor thought she was having a gall bladder attack and she needed someone to take her to the ER right away..

Okey dokey.. Off I go - the heck with the eBay stuff - right? Well don't we get lost trying to find the hospital she needs to go to and we end up in the worst section of that city - commonly called "the shoot-em-up corral".. Not a hospital sign anywhere!!

Finally get her to the ER and I get ahold of her DH.. We sit in the waitng room and wait.....and wait.....and wait.....and wait some more......... Meanwhile, my DH is at home needing something from the store so he can eat his dinner and he obviously can't get it himself because he's ill, on oxygen 24-hours a day, and unable to drive.. I call a neighbor - they offer to bring him over a loaf of bread..

Doctors finally decide it's not her gall bladder but they're going to run other tests.. By that time her DH is there and it's now going for 7 p.m. so they tell me to go home..

I leave the hospital and get lost again... Finally find my way out of "the shoot-em-up corral" and start heading home on the Thruway.. I'm in the center lane doing 65 mph - cars and tractor-trailers are whizzing by me on both sides doing at least 80 and.....my van dies!!! No power steering - no nothing!! I coast over to the left lane (unfortunatley cutting someone else off in the process) and manage to get to the side of the road.. Call my son-in-law - but of course he's in the ER and his phone is off.. I know it's going to be getting dark soon - tractor trailer trucks are whizzing by so fast the van is shaking back and forth and I make a decision.. I'm NOT sitting here waiting to get (a) killed or (b) kidnapped once it gets dark.. So, I get out of the passenger door, lock it up, and start hoofing it back a ways where I thought I saw large buildings not far off from the Thruway.. I'm right!! I can see the back of a Walmart!! But how do I get to it? There's all trees, weeds, etc.. Well - I guess I just have to plow through.. So - I walk through weeds that are above my waist, weave my way around all of these trees, and there it is - Walmart - and a fence that comes up to my arm pits and is covered with some kind of berries... I huff - and I puff -and I manage to pull myself over the fence while at the same time squishing red berries all over my beige pants...

Has anyone ever noticed how big the parking lots are that are behind Walmarts????? I felt like I walked two miles to get to the front of the store! I then call my DD's in-law's (who only live a few miles from where I am) to tell them that I can't get ahold of my son-in-law and I hear his Dad in the background saying, "Well what does she want ME to do about it?" SMACK !!!! :mad: Finally his wife talks him into coming to get me and taking me back to my DD's house so I can wait for my son-in-law there..

Son-in-law arrives back at the house and there's a new problem.. The Thruway Authority will not allow him to work on the vehicle or have a private company tow it.. I have to use their towing service (which translates into BIG BUCKS.. ) - and if I don't agree to it within an hour, the van will be impounded.. Fine - whatever.... Son-in-law calls the Thruway and tells them to tow it to his house.. He gives me the keys to my DD's SUV and I come home..

Well - I've been here an hour and a half.. The van still isn't at my DD's house - I still don't know what it's going to cost me - and I still don't know what's wrong with it...

Moral of the story? I think my trip to Disney just went kaput....:(

----------------------

Forgot to mention - I also ran over my cat when I was backing out of the driveway...:( :( :(

Oh, C.Ann, that's awful. So sorry for all you had to go through! Hope your daughter and your van are OK... dare I ask about your cat?

You need hugs and pixie dust, and a heavy duty change of luck

~~~~~~~~~~~~~{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
C.Ann, OMG, what a nightmare...I'm so sorry for all you went through. You do tell a great detailed story. I had visuals of the whole thing. How did you ever manage to climb that fence into Wamarts parking lot...Your one brave lady, I would have sat in the car and probably cried til someone came to get me...Thankfully your alright...Hows your dd doing? whats the outcome with her tests. And the poor cat, hows he(or should I ask)..Pixie Dust and Prayers are coming your way.......Tomorrow will be better, because after all you went through today, it can't get any worse............
Is anyone else having problems with Ebay tonight? I can't access My Ebay or do any searches. Nothing seems to work.
C. Ann- PD & P being sent your way. Hopefully things will get better for you.:D
Momof2, I too was hving trouble getting into ebay. Keep trying I was just able to get on.
Momof2, I tried again right after I posted to you. Aat first I was able to get on, now I'm only able to get on the e-bay discussion boards. Apparently alot of people aren't able to get on & some are complaining that they have auctions ending now....Ebay must be having some kind of problems now, hopefully for everyone with auctions ending and those who want to list, it'll be fixed soon..
Nope...still can't access anything.:( I just had someone who won some of my auctions e-mail me and they can't access it either. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
I had auctions end a little while ago and am having problems getting invoices sent out and checking things. Very frustrating! I can't even check on the auctions I've bid on or are watching. Let's hope it doesn't take them long to get it corrected.
I put up 3 items this morning before I left for work. By the time I got to work, all 3 had the opening bid on them. One item was a very popular little girl's purse from Gymboree. So, there are 6 1/2 days left on the auction and I just received an email asking me what I would take for it as a buy it now.
Opinions on whether I should be interested in this or not? I started it at $9.99 and they've been selling on ebay for $15-$20 recently.
Just wanted to bounce this up again!
C.Ann--sorry for your horrible evening. I hope today is better and your daughter (and cat) are both okay. Prayers and pixie dust.
Can someone please tell me the name or provide the link to the company that removes neg feedback for you? I looked back quite a few pages but can't find it.
Thanks.
Martha
Martha ~ Square Trade. But I think it costs $20-25 and both parties have to agree to it :confused: I could be wrong about that.
Pixie dust to C.Ann! Things will get better for you sweetie! (((hugs)))
Well I was getting overwhelmed at the ton of stuff I had to list, so I decided to do theme weeks.
For example, this week is Mickey Madness (all things Disney), next week is Make-up Mania, etc. Good too, because if a buyer is a Disney fan, hopefully they'll purchase more than 1 item and take advantage of combined shipping. Definitely putting "Please see my other auctions for more blah blah blah" to cross promote my items.
I'm going to do a clothing week (I've got winter stuff to get rid of), a Halloween costume week, a Las Vegas week (I've got lots of casino chips & collectibles), cameras/photo week (including picture frames), toy week and holiday gift week(s).
Anything that doesn't sell I'm going to re-list once, the following week. If it doesn't sell then, I'm going to hold off and do a Hodgepodge week of all the unsold stuff probably in late November/early December.
Ok, off to get ready for my real job :rolleyes:
MP, I think, in your shoes, I'd ride it out and not end the auction early. Sounds like a similar situation to mikess & his Pooh box, for which he was offered $60 to end early (which he didn't do) and the auction ended at well over $100... seems like as a rule, a request to end early is usually a good sign that you'll have a bidding war at the end.
Has anyone ever NOT made out better riding out the full auction, than taking an offer to end early? I'd be nice to hear if this strategy has backfired more than we think.
I had a request to end one of my auctions early and I didn't.. The offer was for $7 and it did end up selling for a bit less (it was only a brochure) - but - I didn't think it was fair to other bidders to end it early so I didn't.. Even if I didn't consider the fairness to other bidders I still wouldn't end it early though because I love the suspense of the whole game.. You could end up with a LOT - or not.. It's really a decision only you can make..
----------------------
Thanks for all the hugs and pixie dust sent my way.. I ended my evening last night by "heaving" (and dry heaving) for about 2 and a half hours..:( Don't know what's up with that.. One minute I was fine - trying to finish up those eBay packages for today - and the next I was feeling faint and getting sick.. Sure hope it's not a bug.. I still feel queasy today and there's SOOO much I need to get done!
My kitty is okay - just limping a wee bit on the left leg.. I think I may have "just" caught the actual foot area.. He doesn't cry if I touch it though so hopefully nothing is broke.. I'll keep a close eye on him today and see how he does..
DD is okay too.. Still sick - but it's not her gall bladder.. She has to see a gastro doctor on Friday..
They finally got the van to my son-in-laws house.. The tow charge was $90..... Ugh! He's pretty sure it's the alternator (that was my first thought too) but I don't have a clue how much a new one will cost.. He's thinking in the $150 range - if not more.. Unfortunately these unexpected expenses have to come out of my eBay/Disney money, so I'm not a happy camper..
I have a lot of things to list today and now I'm even a bit nervous about that because of all the problems that eBay is currently having.. Some they have "owned up to" on their Systems Announcement page, others they haven't.. LOTS of very, very upset people on the discussion boards over there..
I don't feel much like a "cheerleader" today but I'll try anyhow..
Yay eBay..............:(
Great idea! And a good way to stay focused and organized.. I often do that without even realizing I'm doing it..
Let us know how it works out! :)
I have a buyer who is asking me how she transfers money to me via PayPal, without using a credit card. (I.e. existing funds) I have absolutely NO idea how this is done.
Could someone give me a quick step-by-step?? I would be VERY grateful!
Carol, I'm glad that your kitty is doing ok, and I'm sure that your DD will be too. And remember, this too shall pass! You have the best motivation for listing and selling & I believe that you will be able to make the difference up & then some to be able to keep your special vacation with your DD & GD on schedule!
I had asked this a couple pages back but here goes again.
Thanks, Sandy...
I've never done half.com myself.. I've had VERY good success with true crime books on eBay - so-so on mystery books - and little to NO success with romance (unless they're the young adult type).. If she really wants you to put them up (on eBay) then I would try "lots" - like 6 at a time - but with romance books I'm not even sure that will do it.. :(
