You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

You pretty much need a camera to get pictures of your auction items (or a digital disposible would work too). But if you happen to have a scanner, you might be able to lay them on the scanner and get a "picture" that way.

1. Without a digital camera, is it possible to get Disney pin pictures on the ebay site in order to auction them off?

I always scan my dis pins to sell..I don't like how they come out with a camera..so you'll do fine.

I would say important stuff to know, is go through the eBay tutorial. Treat your buyers how you have enjoyed being treated as a buyer. That's really about it.

After toying with the ebay idea for a year now I finally decided to sell some of my stuff. I've been buying but never selling.
I sold my first item tonight with a Buy It Now. Even though I stated I would only take pay pal if it was a debit or checking account the buyer paid with a credit card:confused: so I had to deny it  or upgrade my paypal account to an account that charges fees.
Do all of you accept credit cards? Am I being unrealistic to expect people to not use them? I just started this and I don't want to cut into my profits.:)
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Kimba

I accept CCs and personally, I feel like I would lose potential sales if I did not take them. I recall that as a buyer, I LOVED using PayPal with my CC, and would avoid other payment methods if possible. I take MOs for the same reason - some people just don't use CCs, and more power to 'em. I find it is a pain to wait for the mail, but oh well.

Think about what you are selling, how much profit you stand to make, and how much competition do you have? If your item is unique and in high demand, you probably can get away with limiting your payment options. However, if others are selling similar items to yours, it's harder to compete. Try to work out your starting price to allow comfort in the fees you'll incur, as well.

I also find that using the PayPal debit card and getting the 1.5% cash back helps ease the pain of the fees.

Good luck and happy selling! :D

I personally do not accept credit cards through PayPal and I do get several people who to try to pay that way. I simply send them an e-mail stating that, as noted in my auction terms, I do not accept debit or credit cards through PayPal and re-iterate their payment options. I do accept credit cards through www.c2it.com. I am constantly evaluating whether or not to take PayPal CC payments, and always decide that there is just not enough profit in what I sell to justify it. Since you are allowed one downgrade in your account, I may try it out soon, just to see what the difference in my bids is.

Also, to the person who asked pictures for pins. You can go to www.pinpics.com and copy their pictures into your auctions. They ask that you put a notice in your auction listing stating that is where the pic came from. I do this with most of my pin auctions as I find it so much easier than dealing with taking the picture, uploading it, etc. I just write "Thank you to pinpics.com for the photo" at the bottom of my listing. If I am selling a grouping of pins, I take a picture and as others have suggested, you may able to scan them if you are doing that. HTH.

Hi!
I was so inspired when I first read this thread that I signed up and have already sold a few things on ebay! We will use whatever money made from now til september for our upcoming trip, then start saving for the next one! Great idea!

Here is my question: I am making my daughter some outfits for our WDW vacation. The costumes I have seen for sale are not very nice quality--either the construction or the fabric, so I am making them myself. I am also going to make her a few little dresses/rompers with disney fabric and themes i.e. MInnie with red and white polka dots, etc. She wears an 18 month size.

I was thinking of making an extra of each to sell on ebay. It is easy to make two at a time, you just assembly line them. I will be using regular and disney liscensed fabrics. Can I use the character name in my listings? i.e. Minnie halter and shorts set?

What do you think?

Thanks!
Samantha

I did a post sometime ago about posting IDs. Please note that I posted my OPINION and not the policy of the board.

I know that some people here do share their IDs with those they know and trust on this thread but remember that this is a public forum and you may not want everyone to know your ID.

I suggested that if you want to share your ID with a poster, do it by email or PM. Again, that is just my suggestion. Personally, I am soooo glad I gave my ID to Mrs. Snowgod because she caught a MAJOR faux pas on one of my listings today. Nothing like another pair of eyes!!

I like checking other's lists for something to buy. Nothing like buying from a DIS friend! Of course, I get outbid but, oh well! You never know why someone may be checking your list, so I would err on the side of safety.

If you think I should check with the WMs about this to make a policy of on this, let me know.

This has GOT to be my own personal RECORD!!

I put up 7 items last night, by the time I checked my list after they were all put up ONE HAD ALREADY SOLD!! :earseek:

Here's the Start and end times on the listing:
Start Time: Aug-12-03 17:56:43 PDT
End Time: Aug-12-03 18:51:47 PDT

WOW!! Love that Buy IT Now!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

hmm....I didn't think it was you that I remember..I thought it was Beth..or one of the moderators of the Budget board. But I may be mistaken..and it may be your post. But hey, I'm certainly not a moderator, and I really don't care what others do..I thought I was just reporting what I had read here : )

dresses/rompers with disney fabric

Up til know, Disney has not allowed (legally) you to use their fabric to sell items commercially..but a gal on eBay got tired of them being harrassed, and went to court with Disney. She won, and is selling many items using copyright Disney fabric! Who woulda thought you could beat the giant.
Here is her web site for anyone interested:

I do not accept CC and do not plan to either. I feel there are plenty of options for the person to pay for my items without the need to pay an extra fee.

Be sure to say you do not accept check / debit card because there are considered to be CC.

Yes, I accept them...and my sales went way up once I started to accept them. We discussed this on this link (of course what haven't we discussed LOL). I prefer to only purchase if I can use my cc..I like the protection I get, and the convenience. I have two accounts with Paypal..and I will offer people the choice as to where they want to pay..that saves me the fees from those who do not pay with cc.

....for your replies. I still haven't decided what to do yet about the credit cards.
I had no idea I could have two paypal accounts, I am going to look into that. That may be the easiest way to go. I'm wondering though....DMRick....two paypal address doesn't cause confusion with the buyers? Just curious about that.
I also didn't know that a debit card is considered a credit card through paypal......more stuff to think about....my head hurts:confused:

Thanks again for all your help!!!

I also accept credit cards and I only bid on auctions that accept credit cards. For me, it's a huge pain to send a check or change my funding source in PayPal. I know why people restrict the use of PayPal, but I chalk it up to the cost of doing business, just like buying tape or padded envelopes. FWIW, I also accept personal checks (with feedback of 20 or more), cashiers checks and money orders. I get about half of my payments in the mail.

I think that people will be very confused if you have 2 different PayPal accounts (if PayPal will even let you do that). You will not be able to have the auto PayPal payment button on your auction and you will have to really be on the ball and send out invoices with the correct PayPal account. I like to make my selling life as easy as possible :).

(if PayPal will even let you do that).

I don't understand why would you say that? I just told you that I did have two paypal accounts..both under the same name. I do have to have two different checking account and email account though. I would never cheat or lie.

It's not confusing at all..or at least it hasn't proven to be. It does save me LOTS in fees over a year. Not many people pay me via auto paypal..since my items are personalized. They usually wait for my end of auction notice, which tells them how to pay along with personalizing info. Or they wait for more info via shipping. If they are paying cc they are more apt to use the link. A lot of people do it this way, to get the best of both worlds.

Don't get your undies in a bundle! I never accused you of being a cheat. I just wasn't sure of the PayPal Terms of Agreement on this. I have since read them and they say that you can have a personal account and a premier or business account.

It's not confusing at all..or at least it hasn't proven to be.

So ... you have one account under one email address and one under another. How do you tell which PayPal account to send to your buyer? Do you ask them if they want to pay by CC? Do you include the automatic link in your auctions? Inquiring mind want to know :).

Don't get your undies in a bundle!

My undies weren't in a bundle..but I had just said I had two accounts, so I was suprised you then wrote "if Paypal would even let you do it". I try my best to only give factual info on these boards.

My end of auction notice says (depending on which item I have up for bid)..if paying by credit card, please use this account (etc etc).
If paying with funds from your Paypal account or your Paypal connected checking account, use this account (etc etc).

I belive we discussed this once on this thread..but as it's such a long thread, it may have been missed.

All this talk of bundled undies makes me want to sell some on ebay!!! How bizarre - they'd probably go for $79.95 with Buy-it-Now!

;)

Seriously, I think I hit the motherlode at a yard sale this weekend - box overflowing with old electronics magazines, TV repair guides, etc. all from the 50's and 60's. I offered the seller $5 for the whole box and she took it! So far I've listed 2 lots of 8 magazines from the box, and the first lot sold for $20 BIN! I'm so psyched! Guess I need to sort and list the other 50 or so... yippee!!!

My brother recently started selling some old machine parts on Ebay and is doing very well. He decided to try to sell his old beater of a car and it sold for over $500. It wasn't even running and hadn't been registered in a few years. He had it parked at my Dad's business and it was broken into so it was quite a mess. The guy brought him a money order and was quite pleased - go figure!
