C.Ann - It sounds the way my experience has been going so far. My first winning bidder was from Brazil - very nicely asked if I would ship to Brazil and I said no and he gave me a U.S. address. Another kept saying she was mailing a M.O. then finally paid but e-check and was hoping I would send her item right away.

Now I have a non-paying bidder and I have already done combined shipping - but she overpaid and told me to keep the difference.

C.Ann

#1- She may not have sent payment yet. Try emailing the buyer and let her know you don't usually ship to PR but if she sends her address, you will check out the shipping cost and let her know how much it will cost for the extra expense. Give her the option (if you want) to back out of the bid if the cost is more than she realized. If she does back out, contact the second highest bidder if there is one.

If she has already sent payment and you find the shipping is going to be considerably more, a polite email explaining the situation and a request for more $ isn't out of line. She is the one at fault if you state in your auction you will only ship to the US.
If she refuses to pay the extra shipping charge, you could send her payment back with a note explaining she didn't follow the auction terms.

Do what *you* are comfortable with depending on the buyers attitude and how large the $$ amount you would be out is.

#2- The buyer can just go directly to Paypal.com and enter all the auction information to pay you. Going straight thru the auction is a nice convenience but not necessary. Hopefully it is just a glitch with this one auction.

#3- You don't have to knock off anything, really. Weigh the two items together and charge the amount of actual shipping plus a little for your material if that's what you normally do. Boxing them together will save you money at the Post Office and you are just passing that savings on to the buyer.

Combined shipping is usually a little more than for one auction but not as much as both shipping charges together. No need to take any kind of loss.

If you already have them packed individually, you can tape the two boxes together- I have seen this done at the PO many times. The postal clerk will make sure they are secure enough and add extra tape if needed and then you just put one address label on the package.

Good luck to you- don't stress too much. In the big Ebay scheme of things, these problems aren't horrible. A PITA, maybe, but fixable.

Hope I made sense, it's a little early for me. :D

I have mailed to PR..it's part of the US. Usually you have to state continental US if you don't want to ship to PR..or at least I have seen people do that. I don't think I even filled out any customs paperwork. Have you checked the shipping charges yet? They are listed on the PO site as a "state". You use the domestic calculator for PR.

I agree with Padme on the other two "problems"...which should be easily solved : )

So get this... In the mail room at our building we have a "book exchange" where people can leave magazines and books for others to take or read. I get all my new magazines here and then put them back out after reading them (and any of mine that I am finished with.) Well, someone left 7 textbooks out the other day and they were BRAND NEW! No highlighting or writing in them-they look like they never even opened them. So I said to myself-half.com!

I listed them Friday and 2 have sold already for $40 and $25. I am psyched! I also have left many books for others to take as well as other things but I can't believe this person would not try to re-sell these at school!

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question. I have a paypal account and use it for paying people all the time but no one uses it to pay me I don't accept credit cards (just starting out and don't want the extra charges), therefore, when i'm listing i don't tick the paypal box as a payment method. Because of this, when my buyers go through checkout, they don't have the option to pay through paypal. Am i doing something wrong or do i just have to email them all individually to let them know they can. I started off doing this but it was too time consuming. I do write that i accept transfers in the item descripton though.

Woohooo - I finally have my star and feedback of 10. I can now do Buy It Now!! My 2nd Ebay milestone.

I am SO excited!!! I sold my camera for more than I thought I would!!!! Okay, so now what??? I have sent an invoice and an email to the winner....
Will she now pay thru Pay Pal, and then someone will notify me?
How do I get paid????
Sorry to be so thick about this!!!
Thanks!

I would like to know how the process works too. Most of my auctions end tonight and I have bids over $70.00. I am amazed.

Martha

You will get an end-of-auction notice from Ebay and from there you can send your winning bidder an invoice. When someone pays by Paypal you will get an instant payment notification - We love those!!! You can also print a packing list from the Paypal site.

Martha, you are doing great. I only have one bid so far this week:( but I am excited that my feedback is starting to come in.

I am at $102.00. I just can't believe it. I am sorry I am getting so excited and this is the only place I can share it. My husband thinks I'm crazy.

I remember getting so happy to get my yellow star also, cinlee! And boy do I love Buy It Now! I only tack it on things I know won't be FOUGHT over, though, and it's a great way to get money EVERY day instead of just the end of the auction!

I had one heck of a Sunday closing! I spent all day packing and shipping today! Three things I bought at a garage sale last week for $1 sold for a total of $97!!! Wow!!

I am BUSY BUSY BUSY with this so I have no clue how people with jobs do this. I know when I start working this will have to take a serious back burner. That is going to be soooo sad.

Martha, don't feel bad, I drive my sister NUTS about this! I call her up in the middle of the night to tell her! She is happy for me, though, especially since I sell some of her stuff.

Okay, so now I'm hot to sell MORE! I do have a video set (Never Ending Story 1 & 2) that has no bids :( . I put $10 for a starting bid because they are in a box, never opened. Oh well...
Any tips? Did I ask too much to start?

Anyway, my kids have a ton of PS2 games they want to sell. I see that most of them are in groups of more than one. Is this the best way to sell them? I was just going to list them individually. How do I go about doing this?

It's rough. I work 40+ hour weeks. But for me, this is my hobby, it's what I enjoy doing and believe it or not, I find it relaxing. I know what my limit for auctions is - how many I can put up in a week and get by. I also know what weeks will be bad for my job (I work on 3 week deadlines) and plan around those. I'm lucky enough to have a PO that's on my way to work and they open at 8:30 (I start work at 9:30). I ship twice a week and that simplifies things a bit.

Lori

I've sold numerous PS and PS2 games on ebay. I do one at a time and I kind of look at what they are going for or sold for recently. I then set my starting price at $5.99 or $6.99 and put my buy it now price right around what they sold for recently. Most people use Buy it Now for video games in my experience.

I also use $1.99 for shipping charges and ship media mail or first class if it comes out less than $1.50.

Good Luck!

When I use the relist feature, can I add on the Buy It Now - or only on original listings?

I want to relist some things later tonight (I hate having to wait till so late in the evening 'cause I'm on the east coast) and I'm hoping I can get an answer before I go ahead and put them back up..

Thanks! Oh - and I'm SOOOOOO glad to hear you have all done well this week.. I've done pretty good - but definitely not as good as some other weeks.. Guess that's just "the way of eBay" though..;)

Lori, thanks for the response. It gives me hope that I will be able to continue once I'm employed. I truly do enjoy this!

My PO's, there are 3 within a mile of my house, all are 9am to 5pm and only one is open on Saturday till 1pm. Hopefully I will be able to find a close one to my new job and be able to ship from there.

PatriciaH, I worked at a radio station for 15 years. In the snack room the PR people would drop off promotion books for authors who wanted to be interviewed on the air. I regularly picked them up just BECAUSE.

I've sold most of them on eBay from $60 to $30 now! I wish I STILL worked there just for the promotion stuff! I still have a closet full of stuff to sell from them!

I had some auctions end the other day. They we are Playstation games. They all sold and did well. I put them in groups of 2&3.

Also, it has been 4 days since one of my other items sold. I sent the invoice to the buyer right at closing. I still haven't heard anything. Never had this happen before, so what do I do next?

Anyway, my kids have a ton of PS2 games they want to sell. I see that most of them are in groups of more than one.

Look them up on Half.com to compare them with the prices they are going for on Ebay. Some of the games I put on Ebay and some on Half....its all about supply and demand. We just sold an old football game on Half for $11 and we originally paid $10 at a WalMart clearance sale. Be sure if you list on Half add a description......tell the buyer the rating and if anything comes with the game like the booklet or the original box.

C.Ann, where in the blazes are you? Our garage sales around here end up charging more for things than Target's 75% off sales! I have kind of given up on them recently - you can't get a deal on anything anymore.

My mom did get the best deal lately last Friday - 5 packs of a years worth of hot rod mags from early 60's for $2 pack. A guy offered her $5 pack right away but she bought for my dh to go thru first. Then I may resell individually or in groups of 3.

Actually I'm in "two" places.. Down home there is this particularly elite area where I'm not really sure why they even BOTHER with garage sales.. We're talking homes in the $500,000 range - and most often it's being run for the kids to earn a little spending money so the parents slap a dime or 25 cents on everything..

The other place is in the Adirondack Mountains.. These are towns where folks have a high rate of unemployment and I think their philosophy is "a half a loaf is better than none.." One time I bought some stuff from a little old widow - her house was pretty run down - and I KNEW I had gotten the bargain of a lifetime.. I bought several boxes of stuff and all she wanted was $10.. I looked at her, looked at her house, slapped a twenty dollar bill in her hand and quickly rushed away..

I know the kind of sales you're talking about though.. In my own neighborhood people act like they're running a Macy's Outlet and you can rarely find a good deal.. They'll say things like - "Well, I paid $35 for that so I HAVE to get at least $30!" Okey dokey - but not from ME.. Odds are they'll be putting it back out in next years garage sale, the year after, and the year after.. ;)
