Any one else having problems listing their items? I have been trying to put a bracelet on and some electronics and everytime I add my pictures and submit, I get a message that they can't locate the page and I lose everything I have done! I went to the technical board and there seems to be others with this issue, but I was wondering if anyone here is having the same problem.

I am so frustrated! I really want to get these items on, as I am running out of time before my vacation!

Thanks, Charlene:

I think TMI means too much information. :D

I just want to say I think this thread is wonderful. I'm looking on ebay right now for a cheapie digital camera so I can get started. I have a webcam, but the pics come out horrible. It doesn't matter how much lighting I have it never comes out right. And since it is hooked right to the computer it is a pain to use. Anyone here know of a cheap (under $40 or so) portable digital camera that takes decent indoor pics? I only need it for ebay. I looked at Staples and the cheapest one there was about $60.

Thanks Shelle..I wasn't aware that too much info is ever a bad thing.

Shelle..if you know what camera you are wanting..go to www.Mysimon.com and put in the camera name. Once the list comes up, click on price, and the cheapest place to buy it will come up (not always the best, so check it out). You may want to check out used cameras on eBay (check the feedback good) since there are many 1 megapixels cameras out there that have lots of life in them, that would be perfect for eBay.
Also, you might want to sign up for Staples.com..they often send coupons, and most can be used on line or locally.

OK, I finally made it to the end of this thread!! I have sold some things in the past on ebay, but not recently and I have some questions I was hoping someone might be able to help me with... so here goes:

As far as children's videos go, I am seeing several pages of the videos I was going to list. Should I even bother, since there are so many?

AND, I have a bunch of very large items that I would not be able to ship (i.e. Step 2 pool & slide, sandbox, etc.). How do "pick up only" items do?

I was going to have a yard sale but this thread is making me hesitate. Now I don't know what to do!

Shelle,
I would say it depends on what you want to sell. We have tried out two cameras in the $100 range from Walmart and did not have good luck with them when it came to smaller items. You had to be too far away for the item to be seen well in order to focus. I had some stickers and stamps and we had to borrow my MIL's camera to get a decent picture. We had used the cheaper one for some bigger items and that was fine. My DH says we need an optical lens, so maybe you should look for that. Personally, I would hesitate to use ebay for the camera cause if it doesn't do whta you want, you can't return it.

BWVDenise,

I have always had better luck with listing kids videos in lots. If they are popular and are selling when you look them up, it may be worth it to list them in groups.
That being said, the best prices for these seem to come in the fall or colder months when kids are indoors more. If you still want to sell them now, make mention of them coming in handy on those rainy days or 100+ degree heat.
If there are tons of them listed and they don't seem to be selling very well, wait it out a bit. Ebay fluctuates quite a bit and what sells or doesn't sell one week may be the opposite the next. If they are selling, I would give it a try- what can you lose but the small listing fee and a little time. If they are duds, you can always sell that at a yard sale later.

As for pick up only items, I have never done any myself but have heard of people having success with them. It depends on the area you live in and how high the demand is for what you are selling. Those big outdoor toys are always great sellers and can be hard for families to get at yard sales. Around here there are jobbers who go out early and buy them all up at the yard sale prices and then sell them at the local flea markets. If you live in or close to a fairly populated area you may do very well with listing them. You could always start the bidding at what you would like to get for them at a yard sale and see what happens. Do a completed search for the things you have and then check by your region- that may give you a better idea. This is the perfect time for outdoor toys so give it a try. Good luck to you!:D

So, how is everyone doing with their auctions so far this weekend?

I only have 1 thing up... with no bids. :( I'm going to do some major listing tomorrow and Monday.

I have 3 auctions starting in the next 2 hours so I will let everyone know how it goes. This is the first of alot of scrapbook stuff.

I am getting ready to make some "lots" out of the bulk of it since that seems to sell better.

OK, I just finished listing some items. Not the big ones, though. I'm still trying to decide how I want to handle those pick up items. Wish me luck!!;)

Ok, I bought a cheapie camera and have been playing with it for an hour or so. It's a Ezonics MegaCam. The main problem I'm having is if I don't use the flash the pictures are too dark and if I do use the flash it washes everything out. *sigh*. You can tell I'm not the best photographer in the world. I've been trying to arrange my lighting a little better, but I still haven't been able to take a decent picture. Anybody have any tips to make this any easier?

I have a few items ending tonight and all are doing well so far. I have more stuff to list tonight also.

DMRick is correct about the capital Gains tax. Even if you aren't a business and even if what you are selling is your property, if you are making a profit on things, technically you are obligated to pay capital gains tax. Most people don't sell things for more than they paid for them at garage sales and that is why the IRS doesn't pay attention to them. But with ebay and collectibles, the IRS is paying much closer attention to the profits being made on that $1.99 1978 Star Wars figurine that you sold last week for $500. ;)

I am just selling stuff from around my house. Nothing of mine has sold for more than it's actual cost. But I figure I am making more than I would at a garage sale and that is good enough for me. :)

I'm not doing so well. I've had a couple of items end without a bid. My saving grace is an item that I would have sold at a garage sale for a couple of bucks. It is currently selling for over $30 with about 4 hours left on the auction. Boy you just never know what is going to sell! Best of luck to all. Hope you are having a pleasant holiday!....Susan

I just listed about 20 things (some re-lists) and I hope to get another 20 listed tomorrow! I need Mickey Money! :D

Shelle94 try this program to help with the brightness:

One of the best programs for picture correction is free! Click this link (http://www.bulls2.com/indexb/irfanview2.html) and download IrfanView.

This program does just about everything the expensive programs do. I've tried some of the others and always come back to IrfanView.

LMK if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them!

DMRick writes about Airborne:

Very difficult to get a true price from them. I have an account, but they charge an arm and a leg to pick up, since I don't ship enough to suit them. And they keep addign stuff on. I have clients that want me to use them, but it's never worked out good for me.

So who do you use for a pickup-only account? Or do you ship enough weekly with one carrier to get free pickup? I've done my research and Airborne is by far the cheapest for call pickup. Enlighten me.

I can't believe how easy it was! You just type in the info as it is requested! It's that easy! For those of you who are still unsure, take it from me. It is simple! Hope my item sells!

Barb checking in.

I had six auction close this weekend. Three sold, three did not. One item was a large Little Tikes Toybox that I listed as a local pick up only, it didn't sell. I had a few inquiries from people who weren't local and want me to ship it. I'll get my price I want if I can figure out how to use FedEx. ground. Anyone know if they'll provide a box to ship? I hate to disassemble this thing, it will be a pain in the neck for both me and the buyer!

Spent the last 5 hrs. listing 19 new auctions. I figured that Sun. late afternoon will work well for an ending time because of the time difference on the west coast. If my auctions are ending on a Sunday evening or late afternoon westcoast time, I'll probably get more lookers/buyers. Listed a lot of items with buy it now feature too. What the heck, for 5 cents more, I'll try it for awhile and see how it goes.

I've run a daycare from my home for the past 5 years and just recently decided to get out of that business. My children are getting older and they have so many books and things they've outgrown. I listed tons craft books and childrens' books, toys and some Disney stuff. Check out my listings (Ebay id - Barbnbrianct).

Hope everyone else had a good Ebay weekend. I can't believe how many pages this thread is! Keep is up!

Barb

I TRIED to list some things yesterday, but after two hours, only got one item up!!!! My computer was acting up,( did a system backup without my doing) and Ebay changed the format for adding pictures, which only screwed up my computer more!!!! I had to go in and change security settings, etc. just to list.

Later today I'll try listing some more items, but I really wanted a Sunday ending. I wonder if it'll make that much of a difference?

I have listed about a dozen items this weekend. I have one bid so far. My dh taught me how to upload and transfer the pictures so now I can do it myself--- look out, I'll be selling everything now!:p
