You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

I would not appreciate bidding on a seller's auctions and getting ripped off when I DO check feedback and if other sellers/bidders would have left feedback I would have avoided bidding or selling to that person in the first place.

But it means nothing. One person may give feedback because they didn't get their item in 5 days..or they didn't get payment in 10 days. You are only reading what a angry person who may have high expectations writes. I know someone just posted on an eBay board, how mad she was about her item not arriving within a certain amount of time (the rule is actually 30 days..and it arrived in 26). She posted how this guy had a "bunch" of neutrals because of the same thing. She posted his addy, so we could all agree with her. The guy had a lot of feedback (I think about 600), and 4 neutrals for slow ship (one neg). She wanted to know how to word her neg. Why would he earn a neg or nuetral for that?

Another person bid on an auction knowing the price of shipping. She didn't like it, but she bid anyway. Then she gives the guy a neg for high shipping prices (oh..and he wouldn't combine shipping..so she bid on several of his items and negged him for that too..even though he sure doesn't have to combine). Now he has six glaring red unearned IMO feedbacks. If she hadn't showed us the auction, where the feedback is stated, if I had gone to his feedback, I would have thought he cheated her. Instead, she knew what it was in advacne, and still bid. So feedback is so subjective..based on the person writing it's mood.

We will never agree on this (and this part of ebaying prob belongs on the debate board)...it's been argued on the eBay boards for years..and interestingly enough..I see more people who have just gotten started (as I did) think they should do their "civic duty" and leave bad feedback..a lot of the oldsters, just report it..and if the person gets suspended, and starts up a new name, eBay when they find out, will suspend them again (althought it's not that easy anymore, since ebay cross checks addy's and ISP's now).

Oh..and just another note..Disney has tons of terrible feedback on eBay..and people still bid in droves. As does the Post Office. LOL

I'm not listing right at this moment- which is why I didn't share it. LOL No sense looking- but I will PM you my username. I have my reasons for not sharing it publicly which have nothing to do with regular members here (so please no one take offense) but with who might be lurking and might decide to just "mess" with my auctions for the fun of it..... those that aren't members here.

You are absolutely right- in the examples you gave it DOES mean nothing and I certainly know that when I look at the feedback. I also know how to check the person giving feedback to look at all the feedback they GIVE and see if that's a pattern there. Again, it all depends on how much you rely on feedback before selling or buying from that other user and since I rely on it heavily- I expect people to use it as it's intended so it will be accurate for me when I'm investigating feedback before bidding or allowing their bid to stay on my auctions. and I can't expect that if I'm not doing it myself.
But you're right- feedback like that means nothing. Just as the retaliatory negs I have on my feedback mean nothing- because they were unjustified and it's easy for bidders of mine to see it's unjustified- if they look at feedback. Most might not now that ebay has the feature under the user's name showing the % of positive feedback. When you have as much feedback as I do and the % is almost 100%- they might not even look at the feedback to see that in 1999 and 2000 I got 4 retaliatory negs from nonpaying bidders. LOL

Disney has their feedback private- but you have proved my point that negatives don't always ruin the "business"- especially if they are unjustified negs or retaliatory. :)

Actually I think I proved my point that negative feedback makes no sense..I saw their feedback before they went private. One of the actual times I did check out feedback, when another person pointed it out on this list a long time ago. I won't buy from them..I didn't get the idea they were retailiatory or unjustified , but well deserved negs LOL. Seems that by keeping it privite, people still bid...like I said negative feedback makes no sense to me..people still bid..but you get to stare at the bad feedback. The people cheating you, really don't care...they just change their name LOL.

I don't think the system is working how you think it is..so since I know the poll on the eBay board of over 2000 overwhelmingly said they no longer leave negs (and eBay's own poll showed that, which is why they sent lots of us a survey of how to improve it), you may be fooling yourself when you bid even after all the checking you do LOL.

Well, all I can tell you is that there have been many times (especially in Feb and March when I bought a ton of Disney items and clothing) that I found things on "disney's" items that I would want and I did not bid because it was private. I never bid when it's private- even if I don't see many neg totals!

And also you are probably right, I probably AM kidding myself by checking feedback if that many people are not actually using feedback like they should. :( I find that sad though....

Anyway, we will agree to disagree on this subject. You stated why you feel the way you do and I stated why I feel the way I do. I certainly hope my posts haven't offended you in any way, I really like you a LOT. :) And I hope my posts didn't come across as trying to tell you that you are doing something wrong or trying to change your mind on this or anything like that. It wasn't my intention at all I assure you. Just stating how I feel on the subject is all. {{{friends}}}

Nope..doesn't bother me. This subject (along with who should leave fb first, and using inside out Priority boxes to mail first class items) is one of the most popular subjects around. If someone had 1000 feedbacks, they could prob take a retaliatiory feedback..but if someone has 50..it's very sad to look at , and could affect your sales LOL! eBay has all of our survey's..I hope they take them into consideration, so that the feedback method will change, and become more helpful.

I agree that it doesn't work perfect and hope that ebay can figure out more ways to make it perfect. For instance I wish there was a way to STOP retaliatory feedback or at the very least be able to get it removed if it's clearly retaliatory feedback after you left it for them- especially if it's easily proved by the fact you left neg fb first and also filed with ebay for your fees back/etc. But I'm sure that's just too much work for ebay to try to figure out who is really leaving neg justified or not. :(

For me it's not sad to see 50 feedback with a retaliatory neg.... I can clearly see when it is or isn't so it's like it's not even there for me when it's retaliatory. I honestly think it's really not hurting them AT ALL if they have left a nonpaying bidder a neg and get one in return. Anyone that is into checking feedback before bidding (like myself- so I'm not talking about those that really don't check it or don't put too much stock into the feedbacks before bidding) can see it's just retaliatory. :)

Okay ladies... Could someone just tell me HOW to get my blankety-blank auctions up and running today?????

I'm really ready to put my foot right through my computer screen!! I've been at this ALL day - and I have gotten 5 stinkin' items up!!

Contacted AOL and they gave me the usual - try this, try that, try something else - none of which worked (and never does).. It's just their standard way of avoiding the problems on THEIR end..

I think I'll just go sit in the corner and cry now.. :(

Clear your cookies, temp files, etc. Run a defrag etc.

Do a hard reboot when you are done, and see if that fixes your problem.

I didn't mean sad for you the buyer..I meant sad for the newbie on eBay. Don't you remember how you felt when you got that first neg? It's one thing if you deserve it..it makes you feel really bad if you don't. Or at least it would most newbies I know on eBay.
Has nothing to do with a buyer figuring out it was a retailiatory..it's like a big pimple on your nose, the day before the prom, and you just figure that people are staring at it (even if people like you aren't really). And if nothing good comes of it (again IMO), why not just do the eBay reporting thing, and get the bum kicked off.
You can respond to me a million times, with a million words, and you just won't convince me of otherwise. But if you respond to this, I will let you have the last word (since this really should go on the debate board if we keep discussing it), since I think I've made my point : )

I have had to leave negative feedback 3 or 4 times lately (can't remember which LOL) for NPB and amazingly enough, not a single one of them has left negative feedback for me. I hated leaving it because I felt like I would get the retaliatory negs, but felt like I had to. I'm glad I did, though, and now my FB rating is getting to the point where 1 or 2 retaliatory negs won't bother me. BTW, ebay ID is same as here. Don't have any up right now, but will on Sun.

I already did all of that - before I called AOL.. Of course then they insisted that I do it again - along with modifying my modem, changing the GLOBAL Org - blah, blah, blah..

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. :(

Thanks Poo..it's always nice to have another opinion.

I see two you have left (if I'm looking at the correct name)...I may have missed any other. One can't neg you in return, until their suspension is over (which means people reported him for bad contact info, or enough reported him for non payment..yeah..now that works!)..although they prob just went with a new ID (too bad there isn't a way to stop that)...the other only had 3 feedbacks..she too prob moved on, or may not even know she can neg you back. I didn't become disinterested in the feedback system, until I really looked at it and saw it really doesn't work as it was meant to. You haven't had the experience of getting a feedback you didn't deserve or earn...try giving a neg to someone with enough feedback, that they don't plan on changing names..someone that retailiates, and see how you feel : ( That's what changes a lot of people's minds..at least the one's on the eBay and PS eBay boards.

Used to be you could neg the NP on day 90 and they couldn't get you back..but eBay even changed that.

A) I already said I wasn't trying to convince you otherwise- just stating how I feel on the subject JUST like you did. I wasn't debating either.

B) ditto back to you what I just quoted above. :)

CAnn..are you running XP or Win 98? If so, how about doing a go back to a few days ago, when eBay was workign alright for you? Or has that been tried too?
Doris

I'm running Win 98SE.. I think I've been having this problem since about last Thursday or so.. Every now and then I have this problem - then it goes away on it's own..

Sure is frustrating.. I only have one more day off before I have to go to work - then I'm leaving for the lake Friday right from work - and wanted to get a bunch of things listed to end on Sunday or Monday..

Decided to bite the bullet and try the "Buy It Now" feature on a couple of the things I WAS able to list.. Should be interesting to see how that works out..

Guess my "Disney" fund is just going to have to wait until this problem is corrected..

I'm pming you my phone number if you want to try go back, and if you don't know how.

Sorry DMRick........it's dano-34 not dan-o 34. Hope you can find them now. Take a look and let me know how this "NEWBIE" does in the listing department........your feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Liked it enough that I bid on something : )

How are you shipping your addy book/photo albums? Have you actually packaged them and weighed them, or do you have a minimum to make it easier on yourself? I usually ship something liek that in a bubble envy with two pieces of cardstock in a plastic bag. Keeps the weight down.
You might want to offer media rate for your books..some people will prob still go for first class, but it makes it appear the total is less.
Cute stuff, and I think you've done a fine job.
