You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

As a matter of fact, yes I have started to list more stuff and trying to get into other closets to do even more.

Ah, well now you know where I've been. Imagine my surprise to see this thread when I finally got around to checking this board again. LOL
Actually I've been busy with a lot of things- including starting Atkins on 2-26-03 (and I'm down over 30lbs already. HEY DMRICK!!! LONG TIME NO SEE! :) And if we actually do see each other again I'll be a lot thinner. hehe ;) ) but also I started listing on ebay again. I have been on ebay since Jan 99 but I hadn't listed in over 2yrs. Just bought here and there since then. I got burned out there for awhile dealing with deadbeat bidders who then in turn give you neg feedback in retaliation after they don't pay! I had been giving away my kids' outgrown clothes to charity and such.
But I decided to bite the bullet and list them again- and just a little over a month later I had over $1400 (less fees/etc) to show for it! Granted they had a lot of clothes and mostly name brands -but still did better than I thought I would! More money for Disney trips..... hehe

Neat to see others are doing so also. Ebay can be really great except for those annoying people who sign up and bid with no intentions of paying. Even in that short time I already had one who bid on like 400 auctions (including one of mine ofcourse- I have all the luck. LOL) and never paid so they were terminated by ebay before *I* even got to leave them feedback for not paying. OHwell!

Wishing everyone luck and hoping everyone's auctions on ebay do wonderfully! (hey, if anyone is still listing homeschool items- let me know so I can check them out. :) )

Those annoying people who bid with no intention to buy are most often shill bidders. They are working for, or helping out, your competitors by bidding your price up over theirs, thus making your competitor more attractive.

I've been on hiatus for the past few weeks but I'm going to start listing a bunch of stuff this week that will end before our trip and after we return.

OK....I've listed stuff but obviously not the RIGHT stuff for I have not made nearly as much money as you all! What is the going price for kids used clothes......ex> I have a beautiful WOOL coat size 3T from Children's Place. In beautiful condition......what would you ask?? I think I'm steering myself wrong with my prices......I don't feel they are too much but maybe they are......I currently have a set of 12 Little golden books (Disney) up for $5. No bites yet and it's been up for almost 5 days.....I thought for sure someone would grab these! HELP!!!! I need to make some money for the Disney pot!!!!!!

I'm doing pretty good. Sold three items last night (kids clothes) that I wouldn't have gotten much for at consignment or my tag sale.

My Pooh denim jacket is ending in about an hour, I hope the price goes up a little more. Seems like people are waiting until the last few minutes to get their bids in.

Some items like my Disney books never even got a bid on them before they ended. Maybe I priced them too high?

Also, I've got a few people who bid on some clothes (Disney dresses) and the auction ended on 4/16 and I'm still waiting for their payment. People don't even answer their email when I ask whether or not they've sent payment. If I don't get their checks today, I'm not waiting any longer. I'll contact the other bidders or relist the item. I've waited long enough! It's quite frustrating waiting for payment!

Going to the post office today to mail out three packages, maybe more if I get the other's checks!

Thanks for keeping this post going. I love all the ideas and suggestions!

I'm experiencing my very first problem with a non-paying bidder.. :( Have sent numerous reminders, emails, etc., and have received no response at all.. So I just sent another email - informing them that if I didn't hear back by the end of today I would be filing a NPB with eBay.. I really hate to do that, but it's an item that I'm pretty sure I could sell easily if I relisted it so I'm not going to wait around here forever.. If the buyer has some sort of "problem" and needs to wait a bit - or use a different form of payment than they originally chose - that's fine - as I've already worked with other buyers under those conditions and the transactions went through - but the common courtesy of a REPLY would be nice.. Oh well - guess there's always going to be a few bad apples in the bunch.. It's not going to ruin my enthusiasm or make me stop listing..

I really have to get busy today though and list a BUNCH of stuff because I tried listing last night and between a splitting migraine and AOL being agonizingly slooooooow, I finally gave up and decided I would try again today.. All of my auctions closed over this past weekend and as of this very moment I only have 3 items up! Never gonna get to Disney World THAT way!! LOL :)

Anyhow - glad to see everyone is still listing.. Maybe sales are slow because last week lots of schools were out for spring break and people were busy with their children?? Just a thought.. Don't get discouraged - just keep on listing!!!;)

Could be the "timing" on the wool coat.. With summer right around the corner, people may not be in the market for coats right now.. I'd wait and list it again in the fall.. I had some jigsaw puzzles up but only sold one very rare one and I think it's because no one is looking for "indoor" activities at this time of the year.. I'll wait and put the puzzles back up in the winter when folks are stuck in the house..

As for the Disney books - if you only received $5, would that be acceptable to you? If so, you might want to put a "Buy It Now" feature on them.. Could be that people aren't bidding because with a start of $5 they figure it will end too high.. Just a thought - no real knowledge to back it up with.. If DMRick wanders on to the thread today she might be able to give you some better advice on that.. She's the "veteran" here - LOL..

Don't get discouraged - just keep listing and experimenting with prices, etc..;)

First of all, congrats on the weight loss!!! That's terrific - you should be very proud of yourself!! :)

And secondly, $1400 in a little over a month?????

Ummmm.. For THAT you get to move to the HEAD of the class!!!! A+++++... Way to go!!

C. Ann..pull their contact info..that usually works. If you have a cell phone, give them a call..if you find their contact info is a dead phone number, report them. It happens to us all eventually..just don't neg her unless you want to see a neg back (my one and only is a NP). They seem to get off their butts to send a retailatory neg! Much better to get your fees back..3 of those and eBay will suspend them.

This has been a very busy week. Besides all the Nuy it Nows, I had several Second Chance offerings. eBay tells me on my MYeBAY page, I have sold 106 items in the past two weeks (some of my items I put up 3 at a time..like the buttons, and albums, but a good chunk is the clocks)...add to that the extra orders form the buyers, and it's been a good two weeks..with 92 items still up. I didn't think I'd keep my power seller status this month, after being at Disney for 11 days, this month, being off ebay for 2 weeks last month..but whew..we hit the amount needed again. I've been answering mail all morning from buyers wanting to add personalized items to what they already bid on, so the total will go even higher. The best part is so many paid via Paypal..so I have instant gratification.

Shelley...congratulations on your weight loss! Sounds like you have really tried hard. Oh..and when you go for that preferred buildding at AllStars in September..try to not get a room facing the pool...we just got back and they gave us a free upgrade to the poolside preferred..never again..the noise was terrible LOL.

I know some would rather not list their eBay names...but I prefer to buy from people I "know"..so those on this list, share the info if you want..and we'll all go look and see if you have anything we want.

As far as the wool coat..this is not a good time of year to put it on eBay..October would be much better, IMO.

C.Ann- well, it was a LOT of clothes and almost all of it Gymboree- some never even worn. LOL I kinda went overboard on buying clothes, especially Gymboree, a year or two ago.. buying way ahead too especially for my youngest and so a lot ended up being worn once or not at all. That's the only reason the profit was so high- because it was so much and a namebrand that sells well. Well, not as well as it used to a few years ago, but still pretty good. I also did some "lots" of clothing that ended up going pretty high- and some namebrand clothing for myself also that I've gotten too little for (woohoo!! LOL)

I agree on the comments about not selling coats and things right now. If you want to get the best price possible- now is not the time to list things for fall/winter. Wait just a bit and about a month before fall hits- then start listing fall/winter things because that's when people will be buying ahead to get it TO THEM in time for fall/winter. Plus people (like myself) can't buy too far ahead especially if their weather is so unpredictable (-like it is in Texas. no way I can tell WHAT two weeks we'll be cold and what size my kids would be wearing during that short winter LOL)- because they have no idea what size their children will be wearing by that time. So hold off a bit on items like that. List summer things now. :)

I disagree on the FB thing- it's important to leave feedback regardless of fear of retaliatory feedback. I only have 4 negs and every single one of them are retaliatory negs from nonpaying bidders that I left negs for (after waiting a really long time just in case something happened) and I wear them proudly. They do not effect my sales at all because anyone who knows what they are doing can see that they are simply retaliatory negs from NPB'ers and those are the ones I want bidding on my items anyway. I haven't noticed a negative effect on bidding on my items because of this at all and I believe feedback doesn't work as it should if people do not leave fb for fear of retaliatory feedback. If they don't pay me and I just file NPB alert and don't leave feedback- they'll have to bid and not pay other sellers who do the same thing before they get suspended or terminated on ebay- and that's not fair to them. I should warn them by leaving feedback. Same goes for bidders- if they don't pay for auctions they won then they probably aren't very honest people to begin with- or at the very least not very responsible and therefore I wouldn't want to bid on their auctions either. I can't KNOW that unless other sellers leave neg feedback. I feel very strongly that if feedback is deserved- it should be given. Regardless of the fear of retaliation- that would just negate the whole purpose of feedback if no one left feedback for fear of retaliation. :(

Rest assured that if I see sellers with negs and they respond that it's retaliation fb from a NPB and/or I can check that person's feedback and see they received fb FIRST saying they didn't pay- that it does not deter me in anyway from bidding on that seller's auctions. In fact, I'm more inclined to bid because I respect that they do feedback as it should be, without holding back on fb for fear of retaliation fb. :)

Oh and thanks on the comments about my weightloss! I haven't done so great on the weightloss this week but with doing Atkins the weight is not always such an issue. I just love eating healthy and feeling so great (energy/etc)- plus usually if I don't lose lbs that week I lose lots of inches.... and tonight is my weekly measuring time. LOL So I look forward to that. I know I have lost inches- I'm finally down (barely- but I'm there...) into a size 10!! Haven't been there in a long time so I'm pretty excited about it. I also know that this week's "stall" (sorta- only lost .5lb) is probably because I decided to have a cheat day on Easter and had more food than I normally eat (got stuffed and it didn't feel as good as it used to before I started Atkins LOL) and also had chocolate. Couldn't resist the Cadbury eggs.... thank goodness they are GONE now that Easter is over. LOL I'm back on track and hopefully will lose more soon. I have a goal I want to reach before my next WDW trip. :)

Okay - I need to take a DEEP breath here....before I start tearing my hair out!!!!!!

I'm on AOL dial-up and have been trying to list on eBay ALL day and I'm having an AWFUL time.. It took me 3 hours to list FOUR items!!!!!

Does anyone here use Turbo Lister? And if so, does it cost extra and is it any faster than what I'm going through today?

I want to list.. I need to list.. I have a specific dollar goal that I want to meet this week but I can't if it's going to take me HOURS just to list 4 items.. :(

Anyone else having problems today??

I'm so sorry you are having problems listing today. :( I am not having problems in any other way on ebay, but I'm not trying to list right now either.
I do know when I used to be on dialup I had problems like that all the time though. I'm not on dialup anymore-and don't have problems like that anymore. Although sometimes it just has to do with how many people are on ebay trying to list/etc right then I think. I hope you are able to list soon!
I have turbo lister and all that other stuff downloaded, but haven't used it as of yet. The reason? I don't like it when sellers have all their auctions ending at the same second. I like to bid on what I really want and THEN perhaps bid on other items I don't have to have but wouldn't mind getting if the price is right and combining on shipping. That's hard to do if they all end at the same time. And since it annoys me as a bidder- I don't use it as a seller either. So I just list them manually with atleast 5 min or so between the auctions to give people time to look at my other auctions to perhaps bid on- after they have won something. It really seems to help since most of my bidders bid on more than one item. :)

And that's why I come to the experts..........DUH!!!! Never thought to wait to sell the coat......just looking around for things to sell.......I haven't actually put it up yet anyway but now with all your feedback it definitely makes more sense to wait!

I currently have four bids on twenty things......not earthshattering but I guess it's something. My e-bay name is actually under my husband: dan-o 34. He set up the account last year and I just hooked onto his.

All in all having fun experimenting and having fun making a few extra bucks to add to our Disney trip. And thanks to this thread for pushing me.........it really got me to get off my butt and move!!

THANKS TO YOU ALL!!!!!!:jester:

Carol A--
I just started listing on ebay last week.
ebay username, creatively, erinch.

I'm doing all my listing through turbolister.
I have a cable modem, so don't have the slow connection issue, but it keeps track of your preferences. One of the tricks, I think, is to let it update before you're trying to list anything. It takes a little wading around to figure out all the options, but it's a nice litte program.

A nice feature is that you can do all your listing offline, then add it to the upload whenever you desire. If the upload fails, you don't lose your work. Check out my listings and see if you like the look. you can change the template, etc.

The reason? I don't like it when sellers have all their auctions ending at the same second.

Of course it's everyone's pref's, but I have lots of bidder's bidding on more than one item (since I combine shipping) and I use Auction Watch, and often have large batches end at the same time. It sure makes it easier to send out the end of auction notices...they all go out at the same time, and i can easily see who bid on more than one item..rather than having to wait til all the auctions end.
When I'm looking to snipe a last minute auction, I don't have a lot of time to sit and watch auctions going off, so when buying I also prefer they end at the same time..I jus tsit and watch the items scroll by with misspellings, and low bids...and bid.
I haven't used the new turbo lister, since I really like how my pics are using Auction Watch..and don't mind the little they charge. eBay's TL charges to list at another time..so it's a wash for me...and I often have things set up. For instance, I'm going on vacation again in a bit..I have Auction Watch all set to put the aucitons up the day before i come home.

You're right- it is all about everyone's personal preferences. And mine is that they don't end all at the exact same time. LOL It makes it hard for me to bid on something I REALLY want and then bid on other things if I win that one- that aren't really "have to haves" but I'll bid on them to combine on shipping to save there. Sometimes I'll not bid at all since it's impossible for me to do that- if the first item is not something I have to have and the shipping for it alone is a bit on the high side (with higher handling fees. I have been doing this long enough to know a shirt doesn't cost $8 to ship for instance. LOL)

Oh and btw - I wanted to thank you also for the tip on where to say in the ASSp. I'm not sure the noise would bother us like it did you though. We might actually prefer the noise so WE won't be worried about how much noise OUR hyper children are making. You know- kinda blend in the crowd instead of US being the ones that are loud and annoying other guests. LOL It's kinda like why we don't go to quiet adult sit down restaurants. We go to the ones where children are frequent there- so other children are being louder than OURS are and we aren't bothering other's eating/etc. But did you mean loud as in really late at night? If so, that might be a problem getting the kids to sleep. Or maybe not, they'll be exhausted while there I'm sure. ;)

I disagree on the FB thing- it's important to leave feedback regardless of fear of retaliatory feedback.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I seldom look at another person's feedback when buying..and even when I do, it doesn't sway me that much unless it's really bad. Everyone has problems and stuff that may go wrong and they may end up with a few negs. Even when people tell me their feedback is retaliatory, how do I know to believe them? There is no way to really know who is in the wrong, and there are two sides to every feedback story.

Why ruin my own feedback, when really..most people who don't pay, are newbies..they can easily move on, and take on a new name..while I still have to keep mine, because all my past repeat clients look for my name (by the way..one of my feedbacks..the neutral is because the guy didn't like the box I shipped in..he commented he liked the item..but didn't like the box because it said Kmart..how stupid is that?). My one and only neg, was given in retaliation to my giving a person (who has never used that name again) a neg..because someone on the eBay board told me it was my duty LOL! Wrong..my duty is to my business and myself (selfish as it may sound).

My business is what is important to me, and while it may sound harsh...making it easier on the next seller isn't all that important to me, since the eBay feedback system is really not a good system, and it really doesn't help buyers know for sure, without a lot of looking around to see if they are retailiatory, if the seller is bad, and who has that kind of time. People who DON'T pay, can leave feedback, and move on. Nope..until eBay changed their feedback system, I'll just report them by filing for my fees back. A few of those reports and the people are gone..so the buyers don't have to worry if their feedback is good or not. It's much much more important to file for your fees back..that's when eBay takes action.

If C. Ann leaves a negative with her small amount of feedback she has as a newbie, she is the one who has to stare at that retailiatory..and it just isn't worth it.

Of course the choice is yours (as in everybody, not you in particular). But leave the neg if you decide bright red negs don't bother you..but most important..report them and get your fees back..that's what counts.
Doris

the noise so WE won't be worried about how much noise OUR hyper children are making.

I meant at 7:00 am when the pool filter started, and they started playing the pool music..very loud, bounced off the buildings.
I meant at 1 am, when the teens were still screaming out at the pool...where they had been screaming since 8 pm. All day every day.
What a difference it made, just walking around to the back of hte building..ahhh...peace.

You're right that it's important to file for the fees back and eventually after they have messed up several people's auctions by not paying they'll be suspended or terminated and start up with anotner name probably- but you're right that we'll disagree on leaving feedback. To ME it is important- and I do have the time to check out feedback before I bid. So we obviously bid very differently also. I use gutcheck.com to immediately load up the negatives so I don't have to search for them through pages and pages of feedback. And how do I see that they are retaliatory? I look at THAT person's feedback and see the the seller/bidder gave them neg first- it does have date/times on the feedback. ;)

I haven't ruined my feedback by giving negs and receiving retaliatory negs. The amount of money I've made from selling mostly used clothes proves that fact. And it also lets deadbeat bidders know that I WILL give negs -so they know -don't mess with me in hopes that I'll be too afraid to leave a neg. haha

My feedback and selling on ebay (when I am selling) is important to me too. I don't call it a business because I don't really do it as a business but it's important to me too- and I'm saying the retaliatory negs haven't ruined that for me. I do concern myself with warning other sellers/bidders by using feedback the way it was intended because I would like them to do the same for ME. I would not appreciate bidding on a seller's auctions and getting ripped off when I DO check feedback and if other sellers/bidders would have left feedback I would have avoided bidding or selling to that person in the first place. If I don't use feedback to help my fellow ebayers I can't expect them to do the same for me. But then I do use feedback VERY much so when decided who to buy from and who to allow to bid on my auctions- so that's probably why it's important to me. :)
