You don't have to sign for a cc purchase anymore?

I used my debit card today at CVS. I used it as a credit, not a debit (keypad not available) and the receipt reflected that it was used as a credit purchase. However, when the clerk gave my receipt to me, he didn't ask me to sign a copy for the store. I asked where the copy for me to sign was so they wouldn't be looking for it later and he told me you don't have to sign for cc purchases anymore with their new system. I thought you always had to sign. Is this new?

Our Jack In the Box never has us sign. I LOVE that I get airline miles for fast food.

Some places, if it's under a certain amount, they don't make you sign.

I've often not had to sign at Panera - I think under $25 there, they don't make you sign

I guess that makes sense. The copay today was only $9.50 and usually it's $20 or more.

Starbucks did away with signing a long time ago. I think signing will eventually become a thing of the past.

I know at my Kroger when I go to USCAN, if its under $25.00, you don't have to sign.

I think eventually purchases everywhee will be no signature under $25 or $50, think about, those automated gas pumps don't make you sign.

I've been to CVS several times over the past 3 weeks. They just started doing this. I wish they still made me sign. I just feel that it isn't as secure. If they ever needed to prove it wasn't me that made purchases they have no signature to match it to. One of the clerks said that if it was under $25 they didn't make you sign.

Wawa (convenience store/gas station) doesn't require signatures under a certain dollar amount.

I know Starbucks and Panera don't make you sign since the orders are usually so small. But my local Walgreens didn't make me sign recently, either, but I can't remember what the total was. Anyway, I did hear that the CC companies loosened up the rules about signing for small purchases a few years back, that must have something to do with it.

Wow! First I heard of this. Don't like it actually.

This just happened to me at CVS yesterday! I had a $20.00 copay and gave her the card as a credit card, not debit. Answered "Credit" when she asked. And she handed me a receipt and sent me on my way. :confused3 I asked if I had to sign anything, and she said "You already did" meaning the prescription form... :rotfl: I felt like my little old grandma, all flustered and confused, and I'm only 28. "But, I need to sign the receipt!" She kept saying "You did!" All she had to do was tell me that it's a new system that you don't have to sign under $25.00 or whatever. I left the store feeling like I "stole" my prescription. My husband informed me of the new procedure. :rotfl:

How does that protect against fraud I wonder? With debit cards, you at least have to enter a PIN. When our company takes phone orders, we have to ask for the ID number on the back, as well as the exact name as it appears on the card, AND the exact billing address in order for our credit card system to accept the charge. And if any of that info is wrong, we're locked out until tomorrow. So, with all these anti-fraud steps, why are we suddenly allowed to use charge cards with no verification procedures? Any random stranger could have found my card on the street and used it at a bunch of places to buy lots of stuff under $20!!! :teeth: Yikes!

I was thinking the same thing!

Walgreens no longer makes you sign if the charge is under $25.

I wish the CC's would let you have a pin # or something. It's just not secure! Anybody could get your card and go on a shopping spree. At least with a pin # there is an extra layer of security.
