You can probably walk away now, cause I'm about to start singing! June '12~DONE 12/22

First off- Congrats on your upcoming trip! :woohoo:

Wow, what a day at HS!!!

I'm impressed with everything you did!

So, the switcheroo- brilliant move, but not exactly what I expected. I thought you were going to trade with other guests just pulling TSM FPs, with a time way in the future, but I guess that would have relied on time of the return. Your way worked out really well.

:yay: on getting TSM FP for the right time.

I like the Muppets attraction, but I'm not a big fan of the duck/balloon/whatever thing starring in it? Was that even in any of the shows? I would rather have had them stick with original characters.

I have never seen the Miss Piggy or Kermit clocks and the signs you showed are new to me, too.

I like the GMR. My kids have not seen most of the movies represented, but they still mostly like it. They are good for once a trip. Great picture of the Chimney Sweeps. And I love the line about "Tour Groups"

Glad you made it to Starring Rolls for lunch.

Pretty impressive redneck photos at ToT!

Your frozen drinks look YUM and refreshing, sorry it didn't hit the spot for you.

We have never done the Animation Academy, but I would love to try it sometime.

Glad you got into the Indy show. It has been a few years for me because when the boys watch that, I get my girl on with Beauty and the Beast or Little Mermaid.

Love the title for your next update.

Boo for BF not getting into the spirit at the Animation Academy. You did a nice job on your Naveen...at first I thought you meant that you were going to draw the human Naveen, not the frog. :faint:

A flik card huh? Okay, committing that to memory. So, if a cast member hands me one of those and I say "sure, I'd be happy to carry the Flik card"...will they be impressed?

Wow, I hadn't realized how much you had done at DHS until you put the summary together. Holy moly! Feel free to take a break. Sure, right now...at work. Even thought that day was months ago. :)

You had an excellent MGM day! I don't think we accomplished half as much on our last day there (granted, we did take a three hour break that afternoon and the Osbourne Lights were up for viewing).

The TSM queue looks adorable! I can see how having it jam-packed would diminish the experience - I like being able to see all the little details on the floor/ceiling/etc.

Totally feel the same way about the Muppets. I think the best way to update Muppets part of MGM is to expand the 'land' to what the original concept was. That way there's new material (Muppets Great Movie Ride? Yes, please!) but still honors Jim Henson's work. There's so much material in the Muppets that a whole land is definitely doable (moreso than Avatar, IMO).

I think MGM has some of the best characters - the Fab Five (most of 'em, anyway) in their Tinsel Town garb and all the Streetmosphere people. It really lends to the atmosphere of the park.

Oh my goodness, those dramatic pauses would have gotten on my nerves! Spit it out, woman!

I figured your name came from Wicked! Ahh, my dream musical! (I mean, to see.)

EDIT: I somehow missed that you had posted a double update today? No clue why. Anyways. Yall had a big day at DHS!! Goodness gracious. Sounds fun though!

Wicked is fantastic! I've been able to catch it every time it comes to Boston, it's definitely a do-not-miss for me.

I have a soft spot for Little Mermaid, but I have to say seeing the stage production of Beauty & the Beast kind of ruined the DHS version for me. I'll still go every now and then, but it's not a must-do anymore. I'm glad we went to Indy though, we'll be good on that for a while :thumbsup2

I never thought of doing that with our TSM passes! I only thought to go to Rockin because of working at Buzz and having people with Peter Pan/Space/Splash FPs wanting to trade since they're so late in the day, which we'll do as long as they surrender the other attraction FP.

If you used Flik Card to a CM, they'd probably assume you were a CM as well, if they weren't too surprised that you actually knew the term.

I thought we were going to draw human Naveen too! I guess this makes more sense, since he (and Tiana for that matter) spend more time during the movie as frogs than humans, but I was still bummed for a moment back then.

You had an excellent MGM day! I don't think we accomplished half as much on our last day there (granted, we did take a three hour break that afternoon and the Osbourne Lights were up for viewing).

I LOVE the Osbourne Lights - the first time I saw them I literally stopped in the middle of walking - yes, one of the cardinal sins of an experienced Disney tourer :lmao:

MGM is definitely a character haven!

Hey everyone! I'm so sorry I've gotten behind on the updates - I've been reading the responses I promise! I should be able to get another update (hopefully two) in by the end of the week, it's just hard right now with the summer winding down and a very (long) list of things that need to happen before September. But that's how it always goes, isn't it?

Tune in next time for the thrilling (ish) conclusion of our day with an evening at Epcot!

The REAL Salute to All Nations

Where I last left you, we were straggling our way out of Hollywood Studios on our way to Epcot. We debated over taking the boat versus the bus - we were going to spend the evening in the World Showcase, but didn't want to wait around for a long time for a boat - until we looked over at the dock and saw a boat loading at that very moment! We set off in a run to the dock.

DisneyJune2012230.jpg

I still managed to snap a photo though!

This was another first for me - I had never taken the friendship boat from Studios to Epcot before. I was excited to have a relaxing ride, take photos, and experience something new.

DisneyJune2012240.jpg

Ahhhh, if only we were staying here.........someday

DisneyJune2012241.jpg

DisneyJune2012242.jpg

The Boardwalk really is one of the most oddly laid out resorts

I enjoyed the ride for the most part, but it was very stuffy, and I was envious of the drivers with their fans. When we pulled up to the Boardwalk boat dock, Kevin realized he recognized someone waiting to go towards Studios from back home and his whole family! So crazy how that kind of thing happens.

We headed through the International Gateway and decided to make our way towards Italy for dinner. When Kevin's parents had taken a WDW trip in May 2011, they had said they were able to get slices of pizza from Via Napoli, and so we wanted to see if that was still an option (they stopped for awhile, but there were rumors they had started again).

DisneyJune2012243.jpg

Gorgeous day!

DisneyJune2012244.jpg

France.........with crane? Now I think that's for the Bistro refurb, but who knows

DisneyJune2012245.jpg

As you can tell by the blurriness of this photo, we were on a mission

We hiked it to the back of Italy........no counter service pizza to be found. (Side note: Italy really should add a CS location!) At this point, I had no fight left in me. We had been going for hours, my feet were ready to cut themselves off if they were able, and I just didn't care where we went. So we headed to a favorite of Kevin's, Liberty Inn.

Yes, with the World Showcase at our fingers, we chose to go to America. As I said, I was just too exhausted to care. :faint:

The place was fairly deserted, as it was around 7:30 so many people were already eating/staking out their Illuminations spots. I took no photos of this meal, but we both got chicken fingers, french fries, and 2 apple pies for me, one of which we took back to the room with us (for those keeping score, that's chicken fingers for lunch AND dinner for Kevin ).

Now fed, we decided to pick up some of our favorite adult beverages to enjoy before the show. Kevin's choice was Sam Adams Summer Ale in America, so he went to go stand in line while I headed to poke around in the gift shop. As I was on my way over, one of the hosts from the American Adventure called me over and said there was "an important phone call" for me.

I realized what was happening - he spotted my birthday button and I was about to get a birthday phone call from some of my favorite Disney friends. What was almost more exciting was being in a little secret room of American Adventure........which I made sure to document completely.

DisneyJune2012246.jpg

DisneyJune2012247.jpg

DisneyJune2012248.jpg

When the phone call was over, I left and met Kevin in the gift shop - he was bummed he missed it all! We continued making our way around the WS for me - destination the UK!

DisneyJune2012249.jpg

Just like a postcard!

DisneyJune2012250.jpg

Kevin with beer, satisfied

As we were crossing through Morocco, we saw a park guide leading a private party over to a little pavillion......and then I realized I knew that park guide! One of my friends from Buzz had became an event guide after her college program, and worked in all four parks now.......but tonight she happened to be at Epcot! Once she had a moment, I gave her a quick hi and hello - she had a family who had booked a 50th anniversary celebration to have cake and desert in Morocco during Illuminations! What a nice idea.

As we walked, we talked about where we would grab a spot. It was already close to 8:00 at this point, so we decided that while I got my drink in the UK, Kevin would find somewhere between there and the "Duffy shops" (you all know what I'm talking about) on the theory that they wouldn't be as mobbed already and we could hopefully get out a little quicker.

DisneyJune2012251.jpg

DisneyJune2012252.jpg

DisneyJune2012253.jpg

Waiting for my one and only........Strongbow Cider! That stuff is my Grey Goose Slushie

Continued in next post

Cider in hand, I started my walk to look for Kevin........who I could already see had staked out a spot in Canada. Huzzah! Once I reached him, we promptly sat ourselves down on the pavement to enjoy our drinks and people watch.

DisneyJune2012254.jpg

Sitting + Strongbow = happy Jenn!

DisneyJune2012255.jpg

Anyone else ever wish they would USE the rest of this building?

DisneyJune2012256.jpg

Somewhere down that path is my beloved mushroom filet and cream cheese mashed potatoes........my stomach is growling just thinking about it

DisneyJune2012257.jpg

As you can see, the edges are staked out - but this area didn't have too much traffic

DisneyJune2012258.jpg

I never noticed these guys before! How long have they been walking around?

We noticed a HUGE dance group being led past us towards future world (we assumed to their designated spots for the show), so big that they stationed event guides every so many feet down the path so that everyone would know where to go even if they lost the leader. As it got later, all the torches lit - but ours was out. Oh well, no big deal.....except the woman next to us was beside herself about it! She kept going on and on about how it was ruining the atmosphere of the show, and asking her husband and daughter if she should go over to the CM at the glow cart in front of us to tell her to fix it! I said to myself that if she was going to let the absence of a torch ruin her night, she was clearly focused on the wrong things ;)

DisneyJune2012259.jpg

So glad we weren't in that crowd!

At this point, I decided to just sit back and enjoy the show. Illuminations has a bad impression on me - I've spent so much time defending Wishes against Illuminations that I almost felt like I couldn't like it. I DO like it - the music is fantastic, and the fireworks display is definitely more impressive than Wishes, but Wishes will always be my favorite, just because it's more Disney to me (and because I worked at the Magic Kingdom of course). That, and the part with the globe bores me to pieces - sorry all!

DisneyJune2012260.jpg

I did take one photo - I do love this part, how the music swells up and all the countries light up - so beautiful!

We had talked about leaving a few minutes early to try and beat the crowd, which we did - about 2 minutes early. Oops. We were just so enthralled with the show neither of us really wanted to leave, but as soon as we pulled ourselves away from the fence, the desire to not wait an hour for a bus became more prominent. There were definitely crowds streaming towards the exit (along with a couple frustrated guests wondering why they couldn't ride Soarin after the park was closed.....) but we definitely beat the worst of it by being in Canada to begin with.

We hoofed it all the way to the back of the Epcot bus stop (hate, hate, HATE the Epcot bus stop) and found a bus pulling up to the stop. But not just any bus.....this was a blue and white American coach bus, aka a college program bus, aka the bane of my existence for 7 months. Looks like they were called upon to assist in getting people out of the park at peak traffic times, but I couldn't believe I would have to get on one of these again. (The bus are notorious for running on their own schedule, being packed to the brim, and generally an all around unpleasant place to be.)

2012-06-28212512.jpg

The bus ride was surreal for me - I wasn't used to being on this bus where people actually talked! I made sure to grab a photo when we got back to Pop Century to document the event.

DisneyJune2012261.jpg

We made it back to the room, where I collapsed onto the bed, and Kevin graciously ran to the food court to get NesCrape for the morning. It was 10:00 PM right now, and we had just done over 12 hours of Disney, and we were both utterly spent. Thankfully, tomorrow was Downtown Disney day, which meant sleeping in (which really isn't that late at all when you're in Disney). Until tomorrow WDW!

Coming Up Next: Where Are All the People?

Rested up, we decided to try again for Voyage of the Little Mermaid......

DisneyJune2012205.jpg

.........and again found a huge wait for the next show. Sorry Voyage, you'll always have a special place in my heart, but I don't love you that much.

Ok I swore I'd read and commented on this update but obviously not!

Hate it when that happens. I still haven't seen this show, partially for that reason.

So let's recap shall we? We had just spent a whopping 9 1/2 hours in Studios. From 9:00 AM till 6:30 PM we had done TSM x2, ToT x2, RnR x2, Star Tours x2, GMR, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, MuppetVision 3D, the animation drawing class and Brave exhibit, and a brief dip into One Man's Dream, in addition to time spent shopping, eating, and browsing, and crisscrossing the park more times than I could count.

Yeah, we were done.[/size]

Yeah, it seemed like you ended up with a lot of dead time this day, kind of filling space until the next thing. That's always frustrating and tiring! Still, you DID that park until it was DONE. Something to be said for that.

I'm not sure what it is about those boats but they can be incredibly stuffy!

(for those keeping score, that's chicken fingers for lunch AND dinner for Kevin ).

I LOVE that picture of you!

I may need to try that cider. Is it very carbonated at all? I wasn't keeping track but really it's pretty funny that is what he keeps eating.

That was one VERY full park day, I hope you did sleep in and rest those feet!

I am finally all caught up!!! Yay, I feel like I have been away forever.

Your "relaxing" night at EPCOT makes me want to go just for the adult beverages. I'm not the biggest fan of Illuminations either. I am more Fantasmic and the Magic the Memories and You. I love the soundtrack to Illuminations, it just kind of bores me. Usually I just skip it.

AHHHHHHHH Those busses. How strange that they had one of them pick you up at the end of the night!!! I haven't had many experiences with them yet, but last night when I was on my way to DHS it was basically raining inside the one that I was on. I hate that they run on a schedule and have a million stops involved. I like the park buses so much better.

I can't wait to read about your next day and all the things you do in DTD!!!

I don't find the Strongbow to be that carbonated (I've never like carbonated drinks myself and it doesn't bother me), I definitely recommend it!

Joining in and LOVING it so far!!! :goodvibes

:wave2: Nice to have you!

This is a great photo Jenn! You should instagram it.

I agree with Cynthia, great picture of you with your cider....you look so happy. :)

Hahaha I probably should've instagramed it - I don't find myself using instagram much when I'm not in WDW. And what can I say? A girl loves her hard cider :)

aew I love your report so far,I hope your ankle injury wasn't too serious :(

Hi! And don't worry, the ankle behaved well for the rest of the trip.

I am finally all caught up!!! Yay, I feel like I have been away forever.

Yeah, sometimes the buses leak a little inside.........it's definitely a tough love kind of experience - minus the love part.

Hey everyone! I'm so so sorry it's been so long since my last update (the end of the month means lots of friends/college-going siblings moving away, so I've been spending my time with them while I can. I'll have a new update up by today or tomorrow - at this point of the trip Kevin and I split up often so I'm just waiting for his photos and play-by-play. Thanks as always for reading!

Hello everyone!! (Or anyone that's still hanging around) I am SO sorry I've let the DIS run away from me, I've missed this TR so much but I've had almost no time! Long story short, since I'm working at a university I've decided to go to grad school.........but I only had about 3 weeks to apply. Needless to say, it's been slightly crazy here, but all that should end next week when I take the GRE (think SAT for grad school in case anyone's confused), so I should be able to get back to the TR then! I have to finish before my ticker ends for my next trip, am I right? See you all real soon!

Thanks for the life update! I'll be here when you are able to get back.

Wrong park, but Hakuna Matata- No Worries!

Congratulations on applying to graduate school. Don't worry, we'll all be here when you are able to get back to your trip report. And good luck!

Well, clearly I am just full of it when I say 'Update coming soon' - I now find myself in that position where you suddenly have to finish a TR of your last Disney trip before your next one! I will be at the World November 11-15th for a 'workcation', so if any DISers happen to be down at the same time feel free to stop by Buzz/Monsters/CoP and say hello!

In other news, I've just about submitted my grad school application (just waiting to get one recommendation back!) and have rejoined my local theater group, so things are busy busy as usual! But I'm determined to finish this TR, so you lucky folks all get an update TODAY!

My apologies in advance if the TR is slightly lacking in photos/details from this point on - we've reached the part of the trip where I stopped taking notes :sad2:

Where Are All The People?

When we last met, Kevin and I had finally made it back to our room at Pop Century after a LOOOOOONG day of park touring. Needless to say, we slept in the next day.

The alarm went off at 8:30 (sleeping in for Disney, am I right?) and Kevin ran to grab us some breakfast while I got ready - another Pop cinnamon roll for me and plain bagel for him. We were out the door quick enough and made for the bus stop.

DisneyJune2012262.jpg

DisneyJune2012263.jpg

Good morning Twitter/Facebook!

I don't believe you could tell by the photos, but we hopped in line for the DTD bus. We had many reasons for this: 1) We knew we would be exhausted after our marathon day of DHS/Epcot, and knew that planning DTD instead of a park would remove the pressure of beating the lines and getting decent Fastpasses, 2) out of the next three days where I had to work, this day was the earliest I was scheduled (2:00 PM), which would really cut down on potential park time and 3) there was a new Vinylmation series (the Color Block series) being released at D Street that day and I very much wanted to pick up a few. All in all, starting our day at DTD was a no-brainer.

We chatted with our folks for a few minutes while we waited for the bus, and one pulled up in under 10 minutes.

DisneyJune2012264.jpg

Smile! There haven't been enough pictures of me-I mean, the two of us yet!

DisneyJune2012265.jpg

And an ugly face, just in case you didn't mind looking at us the first time.

The ride was pretty uneventful, and we got off at the Marketplace stop even though our first destination (D Street) was on the West Side, as we were about 10 minutes too early (the West Side shops open at 10:30, whereas the Marketplace side opens at 9:30), so we figured we'd leisurely stroll over to kill some time.

DisneyJune2012267.jpg

Has this carriage always been there? I swear it appeared sometime between April 2012 and June, because I couldn't remember seeing it during my CP days - and I did a LOT of shopping at World of Disney :rolleyes1

Notice if you will in that last picture the lack of typical DTD crowds - it was DEAD. I have never seen DTD less crowded before, we were shocked. Not many people seem to want to rope drop WoD I guess! (Shock and surprise)

DisneyJune2012268.jpg

Look at the lack of crowd surrounding the Lego sculpture!

DisneyJune2012269.jpg

I honestly only took these photos because I had the chance to without having another living person in the shot

DisneyJune2012270.jpg

See what I mean?!

DisneyJune2012271.jpg

And of course, my boss. Definitely my favorite Lego sculpture

We crossed the bridge and made our way over to an even less crowded West Side.

DisneyJune2012273.jpg

Good morning less popular side of DTD! If it weren't for D Street and the movie theater, I doubt I would ever be over here

We headed inside and picked up some vinyls - Nemo and Buzz (of course) from the new series, a couple Star Wars for Kevin and a Figment to bring to a friend of his from back home. We sat outside of Wetzel's Pretzels to open these, and then decided to go back across the bridge to do more window shopping.

DisneyJune2012274.jpg

I love the plush room at WoD - frankly I love Mickey/Minnie plushes anywhere, I love how they look with their feet!

DisneyJune2012275.jpg

Yoda not meeting the height requirement - simply adorable

I'm pretty sure we pondered over the vinyls in WoD as well (did I mention we're obsessed?), and after we browsed through the entire store, we headed to Tren-D so I could gawk at the Dooneys

DisneyJune2012276.jpg

My preciousssss

DisneyJune2012277.jpg

So cute! A bag like this seems destined for a Disney cruise

We then stopped by Once Upon a Toy, because I had heard that their Vinylmation trading boxes tended to have slightly better stuff since most of the DTD trading happened at D Street or WoD. No luck here, since the number we picked had the same Vinyl we were trying to trade. :headache: We also stopped by the Christmas store, as I was charged with the task of getting a Disney ornament for my family. Thankfully, they told me they could send personalized ornaments to your resort once they were done, which was great as neither of us really wanted to/had budgeted the time to go back to DTD again.

It was nearing the time to leave DTD, so I made one more stop......Earl of Sandwich! Since I had one QS credit to use for my lunch today, I was determined to pick up an EoS sandwich to eat at work. I also wanted to give Earl another try, as I am 90% positive I got some kind of food poisoning when I ate there last year, and stayed away ever since then. I cannot for the love of me remember what I ordered, though looking at the menu online today, I can tell you it was probably a BLT......but I thought it had cheese on it.........I curse past me for not taking TR notes! I definitely grabbed the bread pudding cup as a dessert though.

We hustled over to the bus stop. It was 12:30 at this point, and even though it was a full hour and a half before I had to be ready to work, Kevin was still nervous - rightly so, considering the pain in the rear it is to get from DTD to ANYWHERE else in Disney. Kevin's plan was to hop on the first resort bus that pulled up (unless it was an All Star bus, since that was a little TOO out of the way), whereas I wanted to wait for a Contemporary (or any other MK resort) bus. After about 2 minutes, the first bus pulled up............Contemporary/Polynesian! Talk about fate looking out for us!

We made the rounds first to the Pleasure Island DTD stop, then to Typhoon Lagoon, and pulled up to the Contemporary after only 15 minutes! Without a doubt the easiest trip from DTD to MK I'll probably ever make.

We both got off here, and split up: Kevin was going to head inside and take the monorail to TTC and then Epcot, which he had (very patiently) been waiting to spend some decent touring time at, while I would walk over to MK for my work day. Kevin would come back to MK when I was done at 8:00 for dinner and a chance to hit up the things we had missed on our arrival day.

DisneyJune2012279.jpg

Bye Kevin! (And Contemporary!)

As I started walking up the path, a familiar noise caused me to look up......

DisneyJune2012280.jpg

The Avengerrail! This was one of the things Kevin had been looking forward to seeing, and I was so excited that he was going to see it, and maybe even get on it! I quickly called him to see if he got on the Avengerrail - but he had arrived at the platform just to see it pull away. Oh well!

Hey there Space!

It was at this point that I realized I was attempting to enter the gates of MK around 1:00......oy

The tarps around the Chapeau were finally gone! My reaction was 'I must document this for the DISers!'...........if only I knew the photo wouldn't make it online until nearly 4 months later :headache:

I stopped at the fire station to pick up my daily pack of Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom cards, then headed backstage to eat and get ready for my shift.

My EoS lunch........still couldn't tell you what sandwich this is. But it wasn't too bad, and more importantly, didn't make me sick! I think Earl may have won me back after all.

After scarfing down my sandwich, it was time to clock in..........which means this is an excellent place to end this installment!

Coming Up Next: Too Much Apple Pie? No Such Thing!

(I'll try to have the next update up tonight everyone!)

I totally understand life getting in the way of DISing.

Good luck with your grad school application!!!

That's exciting about rejoining your theatre group. My son Ben has performed in 8 community theatre productions and is currently appearing as Macbeth in a show called Paranormal Discovery. Two shows down, three more next week. What is your next show?

Enjoyed your update.

Sounds like the way to beat the crowds at DTD is to go at opening. Love the pictures at the Lego Store.

I can't believe the easy ride you had from DTD to the Contemporary- as you point out, that ride can be h*ll!

Not a bad way to start a shift of work- a sandwich from EoS followed by clocking in at Tomorrowland.

:woohoo:

Look forward to reading more when you have the time!
