You Are Not The First To Pass This Way: 2nd Magic Baltic Cruise, 6/24/2010

I would love to participate, I think the kids would have a blast!! Just let me know what information to include and what to do and when .. lol. Kudos to whoever is coordinating this .. and if there is anything I can do to help, just let me know :)

I have your family on the list. Just need your cabin number whenever you know it. :thumbsup2

right now, you make 9 cabins participating.:cheer2:

Does anyone have recent experience with internet access on the ship? My DD (22) just informed me that she is taking an online class while we will be on the cruise. I remember that 2 yrs ago on the Med cruise internet access was terrible!!!

Any info is appreciated. TIA

Nina

You were on our Med cruise. The access was so bad they refunded what I paid for it.

I don't think the ship has been in Europe since then and I don't know if it was a problem branching from the location of the ship or not.

I'm starting to look into doing Stockholm on my own, I think it might be doable. I've heard most Swedes speak English. Got to look into the HOHO buses.

Stockholm is one place I wouldn't worry about the language. English is very common there.

We are also doing Stockholm on our own. I think the only challenge I see is figuring out the transportation.. I have been looking for a Bus 76 schedule but haven't been able to find it yet... anyone else? Might have to just go with the ho ho bus... would rather just do the public transportation... have the basic plans laid out just not the specifics yet.

Transportation to Skansen
Vasa
and then boat to Gamla Stan
transportation back to ship...

that is the basic plan... but as you see lots of holes.. Will work the details next week.. It is the last for me for port stops (as long as we get the Disney excursions for Germany) and then planning for London after the cruise.

I will be looking on Cruise Critic for the #76 bus schedule. There is a Swedish person who posts over there and they say the bus does run on Saturdays but it might not be the same schedule as weekdays (we are there on a Saturday). Apparently it doesn't run on Sundays. They also said that there is an info station in the cruise terminal which can help with routes and schedules, and you can buy bus tickets there. You cannot pay when you board the bus, you need to have a ticket. I'd assume there is also an ATM in the station to get some krona as I am intending to use ATMs for currency exchange.

Here is a map they posted on Cruise Critic that shows the Frihamnen port and the red line is the route of the #76 bus.

There is a Stockholm transport card that costs 100 SEK (about $14) and it is apparently good for all public transportation including the ferry between Djurgarden (not sure how to put the circle thing over the A, sorry Swedes who might read) where the Vasa museum is, and Gamla Stan. I think they are saying you can buy it at the info station at the terminal but I am going to look into whether it can be purchased ahead of time. This is not the same card that includes entry to museums, just transportation.

My friend wants to do the Nobel Tour and I'm currently signed up for Stockholm and Sigtuna, which doesn't include the Vasa and I'd like to see that. I think from what I am hearing about Stockholm I would be okay doing it on my own.

Had no problems getting Germany excursions last week, we each booked different ones, but I don't know how many folks were booking last week except for us and Buck.

We should actually have 2 cabins:

Cabin A
Marci
John
C.J. - 12
Brendan - 9
Abbie - 6
(You were missing Abbie)

Cabin B
Rose (adult)
Hugh (adult)

Thanks!

Just realized I hadn't given proper names. There's me (Cindy, obviously), DH is Matt, DD 12 is Charlotte and DD 14 is Samantha.

Anyone else booking excursions tomorrow night? :woohoo::woohoo:
We are really only going for the local ones in Germany and maybe one in Tallinn. The rest of the ports we are doing on our own. Keeping our fingers crossed!

Just printed out my planning sheets for the rest of the trip (including Paris and London... 44pages!!!

Can we start booking at midnight EST? Really nervous that I won't get all the excursions I want or that the computer will decide to act up or that the Disney site will be weird. Once I get the excursions booked, I feel I can relax a bit. DH is in charge of flights and hotel in London.

Hi all.

We've just booked out flights, and out DCL tickets have been paid for = we're going!!!

I'm a bit late to the game so I'll try to catch up in the next few days.

What are folks doing where? Are folks going private or through DCL?

DW & I are also travaluing with DD14 & DD9.5
We've done several DCL trips, but clearly we don't know these ports. Any sugguestions would be appreciated.

We would like to be in the FE group, but We'll have to get creative on this one. We live in FLA so what we usually bring for the FE's will be different - and smaller/lighter this time!!! (We can drive to Dover but it's the town in FLA and it doesn't have a ship port, so I'm guessing it's the wrong Dover.)

We're also going to spend a few days in London before and after if anyone has sugguestions. Some desires in London are: Tower of London, The British Museum, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, ???

Anyone doing a day trip to Paris???

Oh well, got to get everyone off to school and drink more coffee - more later.

Guess I should say "Cheers..."

Ray

yes, Silver can book tonight at midnight Eastern time.. Just don't try early or you will be locked out for 20 min!!! Good luck to everyone!

Welcome to the group! I have you down for the FE... let me know of your room number when you know it. :thumbsup2 You make cabin number 12... Looks like girls are far out numbering boys on this cruise!!

Welcome Ray and family. I also will be cruising with a DD who will be 14 (3 mos. shy of 15)

I visited London 2 yrs ago with my oldest DD. We loved the Tower of London, and the London Eye. Kensington Palace was another favorite and a walk through Hyde Park.

As for excursions, it seems most are doing a mix of private and DCL. We are only doing a private tour in St. Petersburg, the rest will be with Disney.

Have fun with your planning and see you in a few months!!

Be careful with the excursion booking - when the Gold cruisers booked DCL locked some of us out somehow. Both my roommate and I had to get involved to book everything, as it kicked her out before she finished and she was kept out for two of those 20 minute periods. I got in after the first 20 minute period. Not sure why it works that way. I do know you can't have two persons from the same stateroom with access to the reservation at the same time, but there was a period where it kept both of us out.

Also remember to hit the confirmation button when you are done! Some also like to confirm each individual thing once they've booked it.

I'm planning all ship's tours with one evening private tour in St. Petersburg, the day tours will be ship's tours. And I will probably not do an excursion in Stockholm but will figure out how to use the public transportation.
