The public school we are zoned for isn't a good option.:scared1: I have been eying a local charter school for a couple of years and we were lucky enough to get a spot for 6th grade!! Big budget saver because if not, it would have been private school or us moving! I figure we saved at least $40,000 :)

We don't need uniforms until the fall but I don't want to wait until the last minute and pay full price.

Any thoughts on these shirts? They look so long and skinny! She will have to wear her shirt tucked in. They are 1/2 off right now. How do they run? She wears a 14/16 in kids tops right now. She is still in a size 10 kids for pants so I am sure their bottoms won't fit her

What other sites should I check besides Lands End?

She has to wear polo style shirts (no logos) and khaki pants, shorts, or skirt.

Thanks

The private school I used to teach at used FrenchToast.com and the stuff held up. Also, my parents had good luck with Target when they come out with their uniform clothese for back to school. Old Navy also carries a line of uniform clothes.

Well, Land's End is actually a good deal right now, because they have all their winter uniforms on clearance at the moment.

I get polos whereever there is a sale; Penneys is often a very good choice during back-to-school, as is Sam's club. I get most of DS uniforms at Old Navy, but their selection for girls is a bit too trendy-cut for our school.

I concur with Target and JC Penny's. Most of my daughters uniform tops/bottoms comes from Target and you can get their stuff online usually with free shippping. Lands End's items are well made and tend to last quite a while but I only buy them when they are on sale. Our school doesn't allow Old Navy as they are a bit trendy as mentioned by another poster. We can't have low waist or flared legs in our pants.

Congratulations on your DD's acceptance. We got into a magnet school here for elementary and we were so glad..like you the public schools here are not so great.

This is a great site for really inexpensive uniform separates. My DSs 10 and 11 have been wearing them for about 4 years now, and they outgrow them before wearing them out. They have great customer service and fast shipping.

Target's plain polos are a good deal at around $6 or $7, even Walmart's are good at $5. My suggestion is to buy early, ours always runs out of the required color long before school starts.

If you can get away with it, you could buy boy's polos for her, too.;)

My kids have done catholic schools since the beginning. I have always purchased our polos from Lands End. It is true that up front they are a little more expensive but they last soo much longer than other polos. Remember your daughter will now wear the same shirts every week so they will be washed every week. I personally always buy five shirts but I have friends who only buy 3 and wash on Wednesday. Also, if you have other children then the Lands End polos will last for more than one child. As for the pants, we usually buy whichever khakis that fit each child. Also, I only buy three pairs of bottoms. As for Aero, I think their clothes are fine and usually pretty cheap. I also find that they shrink, stretch and generally do not stand up to the test of time. Also, check to see if your school has any button requirements for the polos. At my daughters high school they must have three buttons. The reason is that places like Aero, AE, and Hollister have come out with their own version of polos that are cut very thin so they hug the girls bodies. Obviously this was not what our school wanted the girls to wear so they added the button rule because most of these type of polos have many more than three buttons. Uniforms are a great thing and they cost us parents so much less money.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the tips - never would have thought about a few of those sites! I didn't even think about things selling out in the summer right before school so I'll be sure to buy soon and on sale :)

2nd DD will be guaranteed a spot in a few years since older sister goes there so something that can be worn by two kids would be nice.

There is a button rule on the polos - but it's generous 2 to 4 buttons.

Our private school gets uniform type clothes with our logo on it from Land's End. Our school does not require a uniform, but we do have a strict dress code which includes wearing collared shirts.

I would not buy pants this far ahead. This is the age of huge growth spurts!!

Shirts you can most likely do ok. We learned that Lands End was our best friend though years of uniforms!!!

We always got great uniform prices at Burlington Coat Factory, but with a middle or high schooler, I know that brand is important. We no longer have any kids in private school, so no uniforms, but my older daughter likes Aero. She is on the chunky side and has never has problems with fit.

I second JCPenney for the polos. DS is attends Catholic school and they require uniforms. The JCP polos have held up very nice.

For bottoms, we shop at GAP. The pants have held up very nicely and are a great fit. They also have a stain shield built in. A few times a year they run a uniform sale that is 25% off and if an item is already on sale, it really adds up.
