Yikes the rental car rates are sky high!

I am about to throw up trying to find an affordable rental! I want one from September 7-15, and that ONE extra day over a weeks rental is killing us.

I haven't found anything below $240 on ANY website, using any number and combinations of codes, coupons, ID's, etc. And I'm a discount guru. I've never paid more than $175 for a NINE day rental in the past, and now an eight day rental is killing me!

I just looked at Thrifty's website for your dates. I used promo code WMRT (Wal Mart 10% discount). Total with all taxes is $206 for 8 days. This was for a mid-size car. A compact was about $15 less.

I would suggest you book at that rate. If something better comes along you can cancel and rebook.

Those are the exact same codes I've been using when I make it through Emerald Aisle, and I keep getting $242! I guess I need to go through their standard rental page. What are you using for a Contract ID?

My contract ID was the AMEX one: 5125601. However, I would take cdpa4d's suggested Thrifty rate with the WMRT code instead. I have had very good luck with Thrifty and the bus ride is less that 15 minutes. As always, join their frequent renter's club to avoid standing in line.

Aack. Brainfart! I meant, what did you use along with the contract id 5125601 and the coupon code ND41? The other thing...I can't remember what it's called? Rate Code, maybe? I have tried all combinations of them, and still get 242.95. It's quite frustrating. Trust me..I have hunched over my computer with the Mousesavers website open, a rental car codes website I frequent open, and systematically went through EVERY code/contract ID/rate code for every single car rental company on there!

I have gotten that rate on Thrifty. I just really, really, love Emerald Aisle. I'm always so impatient when we land. I just want to go get my luggage, pick my car, and head for WDW. :rotfl:

Are you flying into MCO in the morning and out in the late afternoon? That could add an extra day to your rental and make it a 9 day rental instead of an 8 day rental.

If you have a discover card and cash in 20.00 dollars worth of rewards for enterprise you recieve 40.00 in rewards value. Our september trip for a full sized car for one week we got a rate of 175.45 after the rewards discount. They will pick you up at your resort. We are using magical express and then getting the car on our 2nd full day at disney.

I went and played on the National site. My dates 11/26-12/3

A 8 passenger minvan from SD drop off at MCO was 1400 :sad2: :sad2:

For giggles I checked a 15 passenger van with a AAA discount

607!!! :confused3 !!!

I took it!!

DO you have to pick up at the Dolphin (I assume you're not picking up from South Dakota, LOL)? A minivan at MCO is only $326 with taxes at Thrifty for your dates before any discounts.

I just tried Dollar with no codes and found a Chrysler Pacifica for $205.55 for a week in September. I think I'm going to book it and keep my eyes out for anything better. I paid $179.99 for that same car from Alamo back in May. I'm not sure why the rates are so sky high right now!

BTW, I tried it with the code from Mousesvaers and it made the price go UP to $249.99 -- what's the deal with that? I'm booking the 205 price right now!

I think the code on mousesavers give you an additional driver.

I just got a GREAT deal! (Or so I want to think.)

I used Priceline, and got a full-size from Alamo, unlimited miles, pickup Thursday, Sept 7 at noon, drop-off Friday, September 15 at 3:30pm (you were right, Robin...that half day was killing me, it was putting me into the nine day category) for, are you ready?

  $162.34!!!

That beat any discount code I've been working with by a long shot. I have had some great success with Priceline hotels in the past, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I figure, I might have to wait in a line at Alamo, but if it saves me $80 over the National car, I can stand it.

SO...don't give up hope, try Priceline. They even offered to upgrade me to a convertible for $3 more per day after I won my bid, but I declined. My husband is afraid he'll mess his hair up. :rotfl: (And if you don't get it, look at the pic below!)

I used to be a manager at one of the larger rental car companies and I can tell you that unless you have an extremely large group (ie, 6 or more), never book the size car you plan on needing. It is ALWAYS way cheaper to upgrade at the counter than to book it. This is a bad idea if, like I said, you need an oversized vehicle or if you are traveling on a holiday, but if you have say, a family of four, book a compact and then upgrade at the counter. The CSR's make commissions on any upgrades that they make, and this is where most of their money comes from, so they make money on upgrades no matter what the rate...they ARE allowed to work deals with you...also there will usually be specials on upgrades locally based on what's not selling. If the CSR is trying REALLY hard to bump yoiu up to a specific vehicle, it probably means she doesn't have what you want, but doesn't want to upgrade you for free...push the issue or ask for a manager and you'll get a really good deal. But be nice...the Customer Service Reps where I worked were notorious for giving bright yellow cars to people they didn't like!

Okay, this is what I have got for 8/11-8/28 (and I tried many, many different combinations of ID's and codes), MCO pickup and dropoff:

National EA, Standard SUV (Chevy Trailblazer) - $640.77 TOTAL (Incl. taxes and fees)

Alamo QS, Standard SUV (Chevy Trailblazer) - $554.17 TOTAL (Incl. taxes and fees)

Is this a no brainer (save $86) for those familiar with Alamo? With enrollment in the kwik silvr program, do I still have to go to the counter for a first time rental with Alamo? I don't want to have to deal with Alamo's strong arm tactics with insurance and I want to be in and out as quickly as possible.

These are pretty decent prices for 2 weeks plus 3 days - I think. Lowest price: $32.59/day - :confused3

Quick*Silver is worth it. I used it at other locations. There was a thread in the last week or so about some one who used it in Oraldno.
