We leave 6:00 am Tuesday and my wife just called. DD 4 just woke up with the CROUP :(. Now our DD 2 is probably going to end up with it as well. Could be an interesting trip. Guess we'll push fluids for the next day and a half and hope for the best.

Are you going to the doctor this morning? When my DS had croup this past winter, he was given breathing treatments but also an oral steroid that was a one-dose-only deal that supposedly lasted for three days. Maybe this would be an option for your DD? Also, I'm sure your doctor would be willing to call in meds for you if he knows you are going out of town so you don't end up in an ER in a strange city. Hopefully you won't have to travel with a nebulizer, but that may be the route they take. Good luck!

My DD got Croupe IN DISNEY! Scariest moment of my life so far, running to the First Aid Center in EPCOT while her breathing was so raspy....

But, the doctor at the medical center we were taken to gave her an oral steriod to take (I think it was a few doses) and told us to get a humidifier. It disappeared rather quickly, thank God!! I think she was fine the next day...at least, her breathing was. This was 2 1/2 yrs ago, she had just turned one at the time.

I'm sure everything will be fine.

Thanks for the replies. We've used the steroids and breathing treatments with our other daughter in the past. My wife got her outside in the cool air last night and she cleared up. She slept through the night with her window open. She's doing much better today so I think we going to get lucky. No signs of trouble with the 2 year old.

Good luck! It sounds like she's on the right track now. It never fails that one or both kids get sick whenever we try to take a trip! This fall I'll be hoping that they catch everything possible, so they'll be immune by the time our January trip rolls around.

Good luck, my son gets croup quite frequently when the seasons change, he is always given an oral steriod-Orapred-along with the breathing treatments. Hope your trip goes well. We were actually in Disney and he got sick, our pediatrician knows us so well, called in the steriod, took a few days to take effect but it worked.
