I've been to WDW numerous times but I've never been to Disneyland before. I'm all set, rooms booked, tickets bought, all my plans made. Now I am getting nervous. It's going to be strange not knowing my way around the parks and even being unfamilar with the airport. I know it will be fun and I'll be fine, but it's really sinking in that I am going to Disneyland!

I'm sure you'll be fine! I had no trouble when I went to WDW for the first time last year. ;) I did think it would be intimidating at first, but the basic layout of the Magic Kingdom is the same as Disneyland's. If anything, I had studied up too much! :)

DCA is a whole different place, but I didn't have much trouble finding my way around there on my first visit either.

I think going to a park for the first time is a bit surreal, but it's not long before you feel like a pro. Or at least that's how it worked for me.

You'll have a wonderful time! Don't forget to get a "first visit" button...I wish I'd bothered to get one of those for WDW. :sad2:

If you are familiar with MK, you will have an easy time at DL. I found myself saying "If I were at MK, how would I get to ___?" and I was always right. The maps help too, of course, but my instincts really helped. DCA is really easy to navigate as well. You will have a great time!

That's how we'll feel when we first go to Magic Kingdom during our future WDW trip. Even looking at pictures gets me a little dizzy, b/c things are sort of the same but also different. :)

I just realized we are single digits too...yah us!!!

Anyways, 4 1/2 years ago was our first "family" disney trip...we did DW...we had a blast...this will be our 3rd trip to DL since the first...DL is smaller and much easier to navigate...and of course is simliar to MK...i think after a few hours in you will know your way around...have an awesome trip...

:) I feel better now.
Thanks Eeee-va about the idea of a first visit button! I am such a vet of WDW I would not have thought of doing that at DLR. I am putting that on my list of things to remember.

As a DLR vet, the MK park messed me up! :rotfl:

The best way I can explain it is this:

My in-laws own the same exact house as a friend's parents. Same layout, floorplan, etc.... However, clearly, it is decorated differently and each family has done different things (built-ins, shelvings, etc...) over the years. When I am in our friend's parents' house, it iis familiar, but - not quite right. It's a very odd feeling.

That is EXACTLY what MK was for us. It looked like DL, but.... not. I stood at the end of Main Street for about 5 minutes telling my husband, "ok, this part here, this is supposed to be _____ and that's ____, wait, why is THIS here?"

They are similar, and yet, different. Examples that will throw you: New Orleans Square, no Liberty Square, the size of our castle, the actual buildings the rides in Fantasyland are in (as opposed to just facades), the Matterhorn, Innoventions (yep, it's only 1 building), etc....

Enjoy the differences - within a similar setting. :wizard:
