Yikes! Dead mouse in wall - what can I do to make the smell go away faster?

I would so recommend taking it off of the showing schedule until it passes. First impressions are everything.

I use a company called Centralized Showing, and all it takes is a click of the mouse to postpone, or schedule a showing. If your agent uses something similar, it's not that big of a deal to do.

remove it. I had a small, white, field mouse die in my car in HS, and it smelled so bad...I had no idea what it was. I tried every sort of air freshener imaginable. I was almost driving down the road like Ace Ventura, with my head sticking out the window! :rotfl: My dad finally went in the door panel and got it out. Who knew that something that small could smell SO BAD!!!!!

A friend had this happen- an exterminator told her to get a bottle of oil of wintergreen, put some on a cotten ball and put it on a glass plate/cup by the a/c vent. It really, really helped.

Note- glass because it total melts plastic. Can you tell I tried plastic?:rotfl: Oil of wintergreen can be found in a pharmacy (maybe)- a old-timey remedy oil in a small brown bottle.

Dead mouse smell really is a putrid and sickening odor. I feel for you. :(

At my previous apartment, I had mice die in the walls four times in a three year period. Three times it happened was in a small bedroom so the stench was really concentrated, plus it was during the winter months so keeping the window open to air the room out wasn't a viable option.

I tried absolutely everything I could think of to get rid of the odor or at least lessen it but nothing was very helpful. Air fresheners and deodorizers didn't help, all I ended up with was a room that smelled of flowery/citrus scented dead mouse. So, three of the four times I just had to wait it out (took approximately 3-4 weeks to totally clear out) but the fourth time the odor was NOT diminishing even at almost 6 weeks so finally an exterminator had to come and spray that stuff into the walls and that helped immensely. The holes in the wall he had to make really weren't that large or noticeable.

Good luck. I hope your mousey smell goes away soon, one way or another.
