At a restaurant where you order and are served at your table but pay at a cashier's desk, do you leave the tip on the table or add it when you pay for your meal?

I think alot of resturants today usually have the tip area on the reciept. But you can also leave it on the table. So if it is on the reciept, the choice is yours to put it there or on the table. And again it may depend on the resturant as well. If it is more upscale more than likely you would add it on the reciept. Hope this helps. There may be other folks on the board with a better answer. Cant go wrong here. Jo

I've done both. Usually for me it depends on whether I have cash on hand for the tip (sometimes I don't because we use the debit card for just about everything so I don't always have cash) or if I decide to put everything on my card. Or, sometimes if I have cash but not the correct bills for a tip, I'll pay at the counter then walk back to the table to leave the tip there.

I usually leave it on the table or ask the cashier to give it to my server. My Dh will never do that. He insists on giving the tip to our server, he always worries that if it is left on the table it may not make it to our server.

I think it has a better chance of getting to the server if you leave it on the table rather than ask the cashier to give it to them!

If I am paying cash I will always leave the tip on the table. If I am using a credit card I will always add the tip on the receipt.

absolutely nothing to even think about. either way teh tip will get to the server. quit overthinking here people.

I pay with my CC and add the tip at the register.
