Sigh. We have a 1:00 appt at the Vet to put down Ozzie, our 14 year old Chow mix. I was ok, or I thought I was, all morning. Now I can't stop crying.

He is 14 and is having problems walking. He has always had bad hips/hind legs. His hind legs are all atropied, no mucles at all. One day 2 weeks ago he couldn't move, and I have never seen him like that at all. So we had our DS come home 2 weeks ago to say good bye, we thought we might be doing it then. The vet gave us another med (he has been on rimadyl for years) to help him. It seemed to help, but he hasn't eaten his food in a few days. I gave him some raw chicken trimmings the other nite (his FAVORITE) and he ate some, but didn't finish it :(.

So, today is the day. I know it is best for him, I do, and I have put down a dog before, Sandy, 4 years ago, he was six and had cancer. But this is so muchharder. Oz is the same age as our DD, she was 6 weeks old when we brought him home.

THanks for listening..

Im just aching reading this really I have such a soft spot for my dog that I couldn't imagine being your shoes at all. I offer you much sympathy and lots of hugs.

As I read your post, I'm looking at a photo montage on the wall of our beloved Zoey, who we put to rest last winter. One of the more difficult things I've ever had to do, but please don't doubt that what you're doing is responsible and humane. I'm sure your friend had a great life, and you realize it is time. You will undoubtedly receive plenty of support here, since this is a kindhearted web community of pet loving people like myself.

I am so sorry.

A couple years ago, we had to put down our 10 year old Rot/husk mix, he was also the same age, 8 weeks apart from our dd. They grew up together.

Earlier this year, I lost my GS unexpectedly.

But, you know that your pup was loved and felt your love. People without animals just don't understand how we can get so close to them.

 I too had to hold my wonderful dog and say goodbye that one last time. I always wondered if I would know the right time but a loving pet owner does know. My heart goes out to you..

I'm so sorry JoiseyMom; my heart just aches for you! I had to let my beloved kitty-girl go a few years ago with some terrible tumors, and it broke my heart. Sounds like you're a great dog-mommy, and I'm sure Ozzie knows you love him and know what's best for him.

I am very sorry. I too thought I would be OK with it when the time came. I was wrong. Big time. It's been about 18 months now and when I think of him now, I am able to smile and remember all the reasons we loved him so much.

I was in the same situation a few months ago. Never an easy decision, but I always held onto what was best for him.

I'm so sorry. It's the toughest decisions a pet owner has to make. Hugs to you and your family.

I am so sorry for your sad day and loss. I know how much we love our yorkie "Mickey Mouse":lovestruc so my hearts goes out to you.:flower3:

Many hugs and prayers to you and your family. I, fortunately, have never had to make that tough decision :sad1:. May Ozzie enjoy unlimited raw chicken in Heaven :) :littleangel:.

I'm so sorry. We just went through this with our boxer a couple of weeks ago.

I'm so sorry. It's the last loving thing you can do for him, even as badly as it hurts your heart. :sad1:

JoiseyMom, I'm so sorry. I know your heart is breaking now. Unfortunately, I've been through it a few times and it's never easy. I so agree with Disney Doll - it IS the last loving thing we can do for our pets who are suffering. May it give you some comfort to know that others are thinking of you at this time.

I'm sorry. And I know just how you feel since I had to have my 12 year old kitty put to sleep yesterday. He was perfectly fine a week ago, and now he's gone. We don't even know what it was; they think it may have been his gall bladder. He has been at the vet since Monday and I was going to take him to a specialist to get a sonogram today but yesterday he got so sick that the vet said it was time. He and I have been through a lot together and I'm going to miss him so much.

RIP Bailey (aka Stinkersmell)

It is a heart wrenching thing and I'm sorry today is your day. Just remember that you provided your pet with a loving life all the way to the very end.
