ladies what do you want for Valentines Day?
I was in the stores today and of course all the Valentines Day stuff was out so it got me to thinking about it.

Are you a fan of the "usual" stuff.....candy, flowers, lingerie? Do you go out to eat? Do you even celebrate it?

I think I might be strange when it comes to that day because I just don't care if we do anything or not. In fact, I have told my DH that if he ever buys me roses on Valentines Day I'll leave him for wasting such a huge amount of money on something that will die in a week. I love flowers but I can wait until 2 weeks after the holiday when they have gone down to a price that doesn't require you to take out a second mortgage to pay for them. Needless to say he loves that about me!

I will be in New Zealand for Valentines Day. I just realized this. That will just have to be my gift.

We leave on vacation later that week- so in reality I know we won't exchange gifts this year. I like flowers, candy, lingerie, everything you named-- so any of them would make me happy. I actually would shy away from expensive jewelry-- I love all my moderate price stuff from Kaufmann's and such-- I would rather not have a $1000 necklace- seems like a waste to me.

If we had more disposable income, I would love some jewelry -- nothing terribly expensive. Maybe a small pair of earrings?

But, with two young kids and not enough couple time, I'm just happy if we get MIL to watch the kids and go out for a meal alone. We never go out on Valentine's Day because it doesn't make sense to battle the crowds for a meal -- instead we go out the weekend before or after. And we never go any place super fancy -- usually Red Lobster or Bertucci's. Any meal that I get to eat while it's still warm is great!

we don't realy do much (maybe a card), but our anniversary is in march so we just prefer to focus on it then.

if we did, and consideration to expense was not an issue i would like the following (totaly unromantic) gift:

about 3 years ago i had some extra funds so i treated my jr high/high school best girl friend to "run away" away with me. we went to calistoga for 2 NITES without hubbys or kids. the first day we both did "the works" (hydro pool, steam, massage, mud bath) then we both COLLAPSED and had what had to have been the best sleep either of us had had in years.
next day we slept in laaaaaaaaaaaaaate, had lunch at a place where there were no crayons or kiddie menus in sight, window shopped and just caught up. that nite we had a great dinner and finished it off with a soak in the hot tub.

My b-day is 2 days before Valentine's day and as much as I hate it, it all gets rolled into one celebration. I don't ask for or expect much. Last year was the big 4-0 and we did a WDW trip that was so special. But, really, for Valentine's day I would just love to spend time with DH.

I usually cook a nice dinner for my husband and I and spend a romantic evening together We don't usually do a ton for V-day because our wedding anniversary is the same month and we usually do something really nice to celebrate that. For V-day we usually just get each other a DVD or CD that's on our Amazon.com wish lists or something.

My DS's birthday is on the 10th and mine is on the 11th. DH always tries to make my b-day and V-day special and they sometimes get blurred together.

This year he's taking me to see INXS!

Dh always sends me flowers and we may or may not go out to dinner. Other than that I don't really need a gift. I usually bake him some kind of cake or giant cookie but that's about it.

Well, DH is trying to work his schedule so we can go to WDW that week. Now that dd is in high school, it's so hard to find a time to go. She has 3 half days and a day off that week so it would be perfect if it worked out with his work schedule. If it works out, that will be my Valentine's present.

If not, I like to get roses on Valentines. I remind DH about 2 weeks in advance. He's the pits at gifts but he puts so much thought and time into the cards that he gives me so I always look forward to that. I get him and dd a box of candy each.

We don't do anything special for V-day. I don't want flowers, I think they are a big waste of money. (of course when we were dating I felt way different about that)

After 20 years of marriage it's the little everyday things that matter to me, not a gift on a pre determined day.

No gifts for us either. Sometimes we do cards or a dinner out, sometimes not.

Long-standing tradition (this will be the 3rd year! ) of going to Godiva and filling my heart box with dark chocolate truffles! mmmmmmmm!

We also stay away from flowers that day - I'd rather get them for my anniversary when they aren't as expensive. And I prefer DH to go to the florist and pick them himself - when you order online you get what you get and it's not always what the picture showed.

I love Valentine's Day - that's the day DH first told me he loved me!!
