Yes, I'm On My Way - Surprise Trip 5 Years in the Making! - Non-Trip News 6/5/09

Hey Heather--I've been reading out that plane crash too..how sad. I hate to see things like this happen, I really do.

On a more cheerful note--Happy Valentine's Day early of course. I won't be on here tomorrow ;) And me and the DW are going to see Friday The 13th this afternoon :) She doesn't really like horror movies but wants to see this one. Hope you're having a good day.

Hey Heather! I'm really enjoying your PTR thus far. I'm actually planning on starting law school in 2010 too. Have you taken the LSAT yet? I'm scheduled for the June exam. I've been studying on and off since September, but now I'm attempting to buckle down more now. :scared:

I can't even imagine how terrifying that must've been when your plane fell. I always have panic attacks when I fly, and I've never even had anything close to that happen to me. I don't blame you for wanting to drive to WDW!

I'm glad you decided to take your trip in September. We did something similar with our Dad back in 2002. At the time, his cancer was still in remission (he had Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma). We had such a great time together!

I haven't taken it yet; I'm taking the test in September - after our trip! Going to be a whirlwind of a month!! Where are you going to apply; do you know yet? I graduated December 2007, and this is my "break" from school. (Being a law firm clerk isn't much of a break, though. I'm ready to go back, now!)

What are some of your favorite memories from that trip? I'd love to hear them. You have to life your life while ya can, ya know? That's what my mom always taught me. So, I know in the long-run even if I have a bit more of loans from school because I paid for this trip, it's not going to matter! We'll have such great memories, instead!

Thanks for the Valentine's Day wishes!! DH "doesn't do" Valentine's Day because "it's a Hallmark holiday," but I'm actually OK with that. He does so many wonderful things for me all year that I can't get mad at him! We're going to dinner tonight since he works tomorrow anyway; DM is going to be my Valentine. We're going to eat and to see Shopoholic.

Don't blame your DW! I HATE horror movies! Just don't laugh at her if she gets scared; that's the worst! ;)

Oh I don't laugh at her...never have. I'm the type of person that says, "If you don't like it, well that's fine." And i'm not the one to say, "why don't you like so and so." You know what I'm talking about? I love horror movies, she doesn't...but that's what sets us apart yet so the same :) Make sense?

I'm so-so with Valentines...I see people standing in long lines to get flowers and such. But like you said...:) We do things for each other all year, not just the one day.

Good luck w/ the LSAT! :goodvibes I'm nervous about it. I simply can't stand standardized testing. I think it's evil - truly! I'm planning to apply for an early decision at Indiana University. DH is currently finishing up his undergrad, and plans to complete his graduate studies there as well. There are a few other places I plan to apply, but IU is where I hope to get in. What about? What did you get your undergrad in? Okay, sorry to ask all these non-Disney questions.

I think my fondest memory is just spending that time with him at our most favorite place. It was during that trip he was able to persuade me to sit through a parade (he loved them). Now, every time I see one I have to stop and think of how much he enjoyed them. We also rode TTA a dozen times, and started quoting the narrative. Every time we would approach something, we would say "Now approaching, the womens restroom." It annoyed the crap out of the rest of the family. I still say it - annoys DH tremendously.

You are completely right! You can't take any day for granted. Not only will you guys have a wonderful time, you'll also create such great memories to last a lifetime! You won't regret it.

I'm a little jealous of all the law school talk. I got my undergrad in engineering and decided 5 years later I wanted to try law school. Well I worked my booty off studying for the lsat and trying to figure out what schools to look at. Just before taking the LSAT I realized my first marriage was falling apart and had to put law school on hold for a while.

Sometimes I still think about it but Now I am remarried and working part time managing 5 kids - plus the closest law school from my house is over an hour away and I am just not into commuting. Sorry - not trying to be a debbie downer. I love my life now - I really do. And honestly I don't think I could handle working fulltime right now. The extra stress that would cause my family just isn't worth going back right now. But maybe someday...

I hope you do well on the test and that you make it to your first choice school

Oh and Happy Valentine's day. I will give you one rose from the boquet my husband gave me.

I'm still looking around at schools; there's actually a school in Florida that I really have my eye on. When you graduate, you can use your studies there to take the Bar exam in Florida and Texas. I've always wanted to end up in Floriday anyway, but my parents can't retire yet. If I graduate and DM can move down by then, I'll just stay put! But, I can't live that far away for my mom forever!

That's such a great story!! I totally laughed out loud at my desk!! I'm so upset it's going to be closed when we're there because of the SM refurb. DH and I never got to ride it last time.

Ok, I just have to tell you about my last boss (yes, the one that ripped me off), but he's got a great story that I think would inspire you!! He didn't go back to school until his children graduated from high school and moved on to college. So, by then, he was in his late 40s. He's in his 60s now, and still practicing. It is NEVER too late to go to law school!! The average age of many schools is the 30's, so that means there are people there well over that!

I think if you have a dream to do it, you should go for it when you can - who cares what age you start! To me, it's better to fulfill a dream and only do it a few years (if you want to retire early), then to never do it at all!

Thank you for the gorgeous flower; pink is my fav color!!

Hearing about the plane crash made me think of you... you must be quite shaken!

Heartbreaking news. Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected.:sad2:

I hope you have a lovely Valentine's with your mom!! My puppy is my Valentine this year.:rotfl:

Aw, thank you. I haven't ruled it out just yet. I just know it isn't for me right now. Thanks again for the encouragement.

The whole plane crash this morning is definitely tragic. I'm especially concerned for my boys because it happened so close to us and we are flying into and out of Buffalo for our Disney trip. Definitely scary stuff, but it won't keep me from flying. My heart and prayers go out to the families of the passengers.

Hey Heather hunny, I have just found your PTR so subscribing. Firstly I think it is an absolutely incredible thing you are doing for your parents, it is definitely going to be one magical trip you certainly all deserve. I'm sorry to hear about the whole tax situation, but I think you are doing the right thing by going, like you siad it would suck to have regrets. You are truely a beautiful, selfless person, I bet your parents are so proud of you.

Cancer sucks big time!! I lost my Mom about a year and a half ago to cancer. She was a 15 year breast cancer survivor. She was having health problems that turned out to be liver cancer. Unfortunately her dr. had given her a chest xray the year before, given her the diagnosis of pneumonia, but all along she had a tumor in her left lung that metastisized and went to her liver. She had had a chest xray and no one told her about the mass in her lung.
Life is so short and I am so glad that you are living life to the fullest and making wonderful memories for your family!!!
Now as far as flying.....oh my gawd! I get nervous on planes and have never been through anything even remotely close to what you described! Good plan to take the 14 hours to drive so you can enjoy your trip!!
I understand you need the referral from your former such and such boss, but I would very politely tell him about the hardships he put you through AFTER you get in law school. I can't believe his greed to do that to his own daughter also. I hope he compensated you well while you were employed by him as he saved thousands of $$$$ by at least bordering on illegalities.
Ok, I'm off my soapbox! You seem like a wonderful young woman and I am sure your mother is very proud of you!!
Happy Valentines Day and enjoy your date with Mom!!!

I know I'll eventually get on a plane again, it's just not for right now. Gotta get over that phobia!

I am sure your flight will be great!! Just give your boys lots of things to keep 'em busy. I always got a new Disney related coloring book and crayons on the day we left. I wonder if DM will do that again this year to keep me busy in the car...? :rotfl:

Thank you so much for your kind words! DH always makes fun of me because I blush any time I receive a comment, even one on the internet! :lovestruc

I'm going to head over to your PTR, too!! Thanks for subscribing!

I am so sorry about your mother; stories like that break my heart. I will definitely keep your family in my thoughts/prayers as I'm sure you're still hurting. (I know it'll take me years to get over giving up my mom when that eventually happens.)

I definitely plan on saying something later; I'm not the type of person that keeps my opinion to myself. I think that's a huge reason why I know I belong in the legal field. (It's also the reason my friends like to take me shopping because I'm honest when they try on outfits. )

Don't blame your DW! I HATE horror movies! Just don't laugh at her if she gets scared; that's the worst! ;)

My husband always says the SAME THING "Hallmark Holiday" or "Forced Loved Day" it goes on and on.... he was sweet though and we put the kids to bed early and we made a fire and got chinese and had some wine and watch Nick and Noras infinite playlist! (which was cute) I want to see shopoholic- there is NO WAY my DH would see that one with me though!!

I want to see shopaholic too. I'm so into the books. But I read bad reviews about it.

We sent DM some pink roses on Friday for an early Valentine's gift; she loved them! Friday ended up being Disney planning drama, too. I logged in to our bank account to make sure they'd put the deposit through since it was due, and it wasn't even pending even though we called Disney on Wednesday. So, I called WDW and they said it showed up on their system, so we should call our bank to find out what was going on. The bank said they just hadn't entered it; hm, that's the purpose of online banking, right??

Then, I happened to look at our ressie I got via email and noticed the tickets only said MYW, not MYW PH. We always get PH and I specified that when I made our ressie; I called WDW back again and got another great CM. I asked why it didn't say PH; she said she wasn't sure and updated our ressie. I was so worried the cost was going to go up if the first CM hadn't added it, but nothing changed, thankfully!

DH and I went to dinner to *not* celebrate Valentine's Day that night. I came home to a gift box sitting on our coffee table; I was a little confused as DH doesn't do Valentine's because it's "a Hallmark holiday" - which, is fine because he's wonderful year round. But, he knew I'd had a rough week being let down by my old boss and went to buy this dress I've adored for a couple of weeks.

I opened it and stared at him a bit puzzled as the main reason I hadn't already bought it was because we have nothing coming up for me to wear it to; he goes "We're going to that steakhouse in Canada, right? We'll dress up that night!" I cracked up for a bit that he didn't refer to Le Cellier as being in WDW, but in Canada. :rotfl: (I can't find a picture of my dress online, so I'll keep digging! And yes, I have several outfits for our trip planned already; I'll share them over the next few months!)

DM and I ended up doing a little shopping yesterday and had a romantic dinner at the only place we could find without a line - Waffle House. :rotfl: We decided against the movie as the tickets were selling out quickly in advance and we didn't want to fight the date night crowd. She bought DH a shirt and tie for Valentine's Day. (He loves to dress up.) And, she bought a summer dress for me that will be perfect for WDW. (Although, she doesn't know I'm saving it for a dinner one night on our trip!)

I did find that one online:

Saturday was tough for me; it's the first time I've seen DM since we booked our vacay, and I kept fighting myself not to say anything. I almost slipped and said something about wearing the dress to a dinner, and that the new sneakers she promised me later on will be great to walk around the parks! I have to practice keeping this a secret!

DH and I did a lot of planning today, went to see Bolt (it was "okay" in our book), and watched the WDW planning video several times! (We can recite the thing now!)

So, here's what I need all of your help with; I'm going to post the ADRs we will be making in each park (and eventually, outside of the parks) to see what you all think. I'll note which ones we have been to already, and which ones are new. I'd love opinions on what food not to miss at these ADRs. And, I'm going to ask for snack suggestions in that specific park, too!

We'll start with...

Magic Kingdom:
Crystal Palace - We've always been for breakfast, but thinking about doing this one for dinner.
Snacks - Dole Whip (never had one), Main Street Bakery (never been there), cream cheese pretzel (Lunching Pad), and Casey's cheese fries & corn dog (never been there either)

I just realized we aren't eating in MK much like we normally do, so let me know if there's anything you think we should definitely hit up there snack wise! (No more room for ADRs!)

And, just for another picture, here's a family shot:
Wedding938.jpg

UP NEXT: HS ADR/snack suggestions and what did I find for $1.00 that will be great for our trip??
