Okay, so my parents asked me to day: What do you want for Christmas?
And they aren't buying us much this year because we went on vacation two years in a row and the bills were huge, we weren't taking those small little seven day vacations. And I'm going to be getting braces soon and my brother might need a mouth guard because he grinds his teeth.
So I spent like twenty minutes thinking. I couldn't think of anything but clothes (I always get clothes for Christmas) and a cell phone.
But my parents say it's too much money to buy a cell phone for me, because they don't want to pay the bill. I told them that all I want them to pay for is the phone, on the prepaid plan and I would pay for the pay as you go minutes. But they didn't budge, they think I don't need one.
Now, I don't want the cellphone to be cool, or to call my friends. I want it so I'm able to go places and not have to freak out before I leave about whether my parents phone is charged, or if my brother left the house with it. I do want it so my parents can contact me, or I can contact them when I need to. I find nothing more awkward than using my friends parents phone.

So, can you think of any reasons or deals that I could make with my parents?
Beside the safety issue. I already have the paying for my own minutes teaches me to handle time and money wisely.

I think the cell is a great idea. I don't actually remember how I talked my mom into getting me one. I just really needed it.

we're going to WDW. But I think I talked mummeh dearest into getting me a new digi cam for "the trip" ;)

^___^
Okee then.
If you happen to remember how you talked her into it, I'd like to know.

Any one have any ideas?

Well, I don't know your parents, so I have no idea how to persuade them. However, what you should say is that you would pay for the minutes, if you ever need to, and that if they think you're being irresponsible with the phone, they'll have every right to take it away. (Gasp! I know, but you do have to think the same way your parents would.) Also, tell them that you'd use the phone only to contact them in an emergency.

Does your mom/dad already have a phone? if so, you could persuade them into the family plan idea. I know verizon is all over the US and canada. I think thats part of how I got my mom to go for it.

She was talking about the family plan a long time ago, but I don't understand her much. Like back then, she was all for the idea of getting my brother & I a cellphone for X-mas.
But now, she acts like she never liked the idea, it seems like a facade for her when my father is around. It's like she's trying to impress him.

We have it through Aliant. Verizon isn't big around this area, you either get Virgin, Aliant or Telus. There isn't much else out there.

Hmm...I'm trying to remember how I got my mom to get me one last Christmas...Oh, I remember now. I keep my friends's phone numbers on the back of my door so if I'm ever at their house, my mom can reach me. Last October I was at my friend's house for her sleepover birthday party but the day after my mom couldn't pick me up so we were making plans with my uncle to pick me up. I lived within walking distance so I could walk home but I'd have all of my stuff (pillow, clothes, Twister, etc.) but it would be easier not to. Anyway, back to the point. My mom had to keep calling to tell me about plans, etc.. By the end of the day she had made about 5 calls and had to keep asking for me. Eventhough my mom and my friend's mom are friends, it was still weird to keep calling constantly. So, long story short...er, she got me one so she wouldn't ever have to keep calling houses and parents again. So if you could bring that up in some way, go for it.

My phone is Tmobile I have 1000 minutes/year for $100 that I pay for.

Around here, it was just in the news that a kidnapped girl (who was kidnapped and thrown into an underground bunker for 3 months alone) was saved because she was able to text message her mom for her location. They say that if she hadn't had her phone, she would have died for sure. You could throw that story in for good measure ;).

Good luck!

The kid whose mom said she would never get a cell phone,

For us it was cheaper than having a home phone and 2 cells,so we dissconected our home phone and my 'rents got me a cell.

I made a deal with my aunt that if I kept an average over 95, I'd get a phone.

I'm supposed to get a new cell around Christmas (our contract expires) and I want to be there when they pick out the new one.

I first got my cell in 8th grade. I got a brochure of the phone I wanted and handed it to my parents and told them that I wanted a cell phone and I got it. My parent's aren't that hard to persuade (apparently they had been looking into it for a while)

Maybe you should get some good info on the phone you want (ie price, specifications, minutes plan) and calmly explain to them that you're getting older and that you may be going out more and it would be good for them and you to have a way to keep in contact.

The Disney plan is always an option. They have GPS tracking and call monitors and other stuff in them if your parent's are into that kind of thing..

i got mine a couple months ago. i was like really busy and going to and from sports practices without a phone for rides and stuff was really hard! i was gonna be getting one anyways before hs but my dad got a new company and gave his "new" old phone to me! (broke his old phone, got new one, then switched to different company, got another new phone, gave ''new'' old one to me!)

so are you like a sports freak and have a different sport every other day? or do you go to a lot of places with your friends? if you do, convince them that it will be for a saftey precaution. (and for your personal phone calls;just dont tell them that part!)lol. good luck! :goodvibes :thumbsup2
