Day 4 (Part 3) - Monday, November 17, 2003

CAST OF CHARACTERS:
Yecats - Me, myself and I.
Me is Single, 33 (however, other two personalities - myself is about 10 years old and an advid SM freak and the I personality may be about 60 years especially after getting off of the ToT).

Also on board is my new Canon ZR65 Digital Videocamera nicknamed: Handycam, as it was always in my hand.

PLAN FOR THE DAY:
1. Enjoying PORS in a.m. (Part 1)
2. Boatwrights for Breakfast (Part 1)
3. MGM (Part 2)
4. Dinner at Hollywood & Vine (Part 2)
5. Epcot & Mission Space
6. Oops now I'm sick and dizzy

Okay, I've broken my own rule on this day. I have done too much on a very hot day and pushed myself to my limits (at this point it was a very muggy 68 or 70 degrees after feeling like it was 90 degrees during the day). Don't ask me why I suddenly got the urge to go to Epcot after Fantasmic, but walking back to the bus, I saw Epcot and hopped on it. Before you knew it I was there right at 8:00 p.m. My thinking at this point was to ride Test Track as most people would begin to find their spots along the lake route. I was also contemplating riding Mission Space as the last ride of the day and decided it would be great to leave as Illuminations would be going on.

So I am quickly walking over to Test Track which truly had no ride time so in I go. I rode straight four times in a row (with last time as a reride, didn't have to unbuckle as there was no one in line). Heck I was following several other families back into the ride line who just kept reriding like I was. On my second time on this ride, I was in the preshow room with four older teens who stormed the door and pushed it open right as the preshow began so everyone just walked out and got into the cars immediately. Well after the fourth trip and obtaining the Don King look again I decided to try Mission Space.

TIP:
If you get that strange feeling riding the Tea Cups at Magic Kingdom, think twice before riding Mission Space.

I am slowing myself down as I am heading in MS as I am checking out all of the preshow details. Disney imagineers really did a good job with the preshow. I head into the Single rider line where I waited several minutes. Now I will try every ride at least once in my life. When I was younger, I tried the Tea Cups at MK and came off nauseated as I tend to get nauseated on a ride that is doing a lot of spinning on something else that is spinning. Yes I do see the signs that warn about spinning. I can feel myself getting anxious. (There is a reason why I am planning on riding this ride last which was due to the possibility that I may get sick and didn't have anyone to help care for me after I rode). Finally right as Illuminations had started I get on the ride and could already feel that I was not breathing like I should. Then your in the pod and everything is close to you. I made myself focus on that screen and its not that you can feel the spinning but something made me nauseated (right when you get that weightlessness feeling) and I really don't recall the last minute of the ride as I had my eyes closed and was trying to calm myself down. Finally the door opened. Okay, okay I can walk down that hall which I did hugging one side. I rode, by the way, with a family of 3 (mom, dad and girl around 10). The mom as she passed asked me if I was alright and I smiled and shook my head and they kept on going. If I would've said anything, I would've had a protein spill right there and thin.

Out of the building and walking at a very slow pace. I sit and I am sweating at this point and I can see Illuminations. After about 5 minutes of trying to calm down, I can see throngs of people leaving as Illuminations is still going on so I decide that I have to get back to the hotel and lay down. By the way, even though I know that the walk to the bus only took about 10 minutes and the bus was full heading back to the hotel by 9:40 I had finally made it to my room but it felt like I left hours ago and my head was reeling. Open my door and walked into the bathroom right as my protein spill began. Laid down in bed and could feel the Earth moving around me. 15 minutes later, and another protein spill. My body is definately changing as I get older and I am finding that I am getter sicker or nauseated from things that didn't used to make me sick. I don't necessarily think it was the ride that made me sick. I think it was a combination of things, heat from the day, long exhausting day, quickly reriding TT multiple times before heading over to MS, anxiety about riding it for the first time and maybe even forcing myself to walk back to the bus which may have pushed me over the edge. I will have to think whenever my next trip is if I want to attempt to reride or not (maybe first ride of day next time with 20 minute break after it).

Well, what I had planned to do upon returning tonight was a load of laundry (I had packed for 6 days and was running out of clothing) and swim in the quiet pool in between Magnolia Terrace and Acadian House. All of that would have to be done tomorrow night. I just laid in bed (with my clothes still on) and began to fall asleep. At about 11:00 (right when I was really beginnng to sleep) the phone rang, I did not check in with my mom and she was calling to see how I was doing. I informed her and 10 minutes later I am going back under when the phone rang again, this time it was my grandmother - same conversation and hung up. Didn't even get the chance to move my hand away from the phone when my dad called. Same conversation, hung up. Felt a little better as 45 minutes went by. Got up put on night clothes, dialed for wake up call, had a glass of water and went to sleep.

RECAP:

Test Track - :hyper:
Mission Space -
Riding home sick with a bus full of people -

Stay tuned for Day 5 - Should I return to Epcot?

It's an awesome ride, and I can't wait for DH and DD to ride it with me. I too find the teacups make me sick now and I can't ride them anymore, but MS wasn't bad. Maybe you did overdo it, also maybe you didn't get enough water during that long, hot, humid day. Being dehydrated could increase the chance of getting sick, for sure. I hope the rest of your trip turns out to be very, very good!

Carolyn

Hi yecats,

I'm sorry that the Mission Space made you sick. I rode it for the first time in Sep, 2003 and did feel a little strange after the ride... but I felt fine after 15 minutes or so. I wouldn't ride it more than once per trip though. :p

To Carolyn and DGirl,

I thought the ride (MS) was awesome and certainly realistic but do feel as if I overdid it during the entire day. I probably was dehydrated and certainly didn't even think about that. That is the one downsides to my trip. I am used to driving to Florida which is a 10/13 hour drive depending on traffic/weather from where I live. We usually go down with a car load of goodies (water/soft drinks) and badies (chocolate and chips) and then pick up milk and orange juice there. This trip no vehicle, no going offgrounds, no bringing water into the parks which I did miss. I was probably dehydrated with all the heat and the running around (I woke up the next morning still feeling a bit off which is usually indicative of dehydration). This is why I do want to attempt to ride MS again but first thing to see how I'm going to feel.

There are three other rides that do occasionally get to me as well but it is more dependant upon how recently I have eaten. I occassionally get nauseated on Dinosaur, Star Tours and Body Wars. This is usually only when I am needing to eat something (stomach empty). I had it pretty timed this past trip when I rode these rides as usually about an hour before I went on them, I had a box of popcorn and a soft drink. This seemed to do the trick. I may have to time MS that way to. Next trip I will definately try this once.

I had the exact same reaction to Mission Space. Fortunately, I, too, was able to make it back to the hotel before hurling. I should have heeded the warnings, but I guess I had to try it once. And, that will be it for me!

So sorry to hear that you got worn out and sick! At least it was temporary and you got well after a night of rest.
