The darn thing malfunctioned the other day and I got caught straight in it's path! I was completely soaked. Pants, shirt, sweater, purse, everything! It's a pretty forceful blast too. Saw it coming, but there was nothing I could do to get out of the way. The skipper managed to though.
She was very apologetic, but of course she had to keep going with her spiel They did give me a voucher though for a shirt and pair of pants so I hightailed it to the Emporium. By that time though I was already cold and just couldn't shake it the rest of the night. I have autoimmune issues so being cold is a problem to my body, hence the reason we moved to Florida. Never thought I'd have to worry about elephants though!

Trust me,you don't. It comes at you right at face level and is pretty strong. When I turned my head to jump up and get out of the way, it shot into my ear. Still hurts. I think there is some water in there I can't seem to get out.

Ack! Getting water in my ear would bother me more than anything. The last thing I would need is another ear infection or something. Glad they at least tried to make it right and gave you a voucher. I have heard this happen to a few people, I guess if the skipper doesn't time it properly....someone gets it.

It malfunctioned somehow. She very casually was going back and forth and you could see she was trying to trigger it. After a couple tries and it didn't go off she proceeded along and it went off. She said that since the trigger didn't go, she assumed they had it turned off. Nope.

I find this very interesting. When we were there in January of this year, the same thing happened to the boat in front of us. Based on how it happened and the way our skipper played it (I.e. We all thought we were going to get sprayed) - I don't think it was an accident. At the launch, they were all ready with a bag of towels for people and to wipe down the boat. It definitely seemed like it was planned to me.

According to the info given to me on the Keys to the Kingdom tour, the elephants spray water at specific intervals. The Skippers are responsible for timing their boats correctly to move past the elephants between the times they spray water. It's likely your Skipper timed it wrong, not that the elephant malfunctioned. Oops. :/ Glad to hear the CMs made it right for you by giving you means to get dry clothing.

This is true, but I can speak from experience that it sometimes DOES malfunction! There are times when I have been absolutely TERRIFIED to go through that silly elephant because it didn't get triggered properly. I'm sure your skipper felt terrible about it haha!

Also, OP, your skipper did the wrong thing. You aren't supposed to duck out of the way of the water, but are supposed to try to keep your guests from getting wet.
