We are down to $216 (total) for an intermediate car with Budget for 1 week and 1 hour rented at MCO. Better than a week ago. Last week lowest ressie was Dollar for $286 total then $265 total with Alamo. Used the spirit air code and a one free day coupon at Budget for the lower rate tonight. Smaller cars were about $10 cheaper. Hoping to be much lower by the time January rolls around, but if this is the lowest I can snag, I'm ok with it considering the reduction in fleets. Still hard to swallow as same week 2008 was $77 and same week 2009 was $130.

Anyway, hope this helps someone else.

Val.

What dates are you looking at in Jan? I just tried again and everything still looks like it is in the 300-400 range?

We're going from 2/10 to 2/17 and arrive JAX for one day then drive on to DW and return the car to MCO. Rates were ridiculous until I tried today and got a special rate for a 5 person Crossover from Alamo (Dodge Journey or similar) for $296 all in. I'll keep trying for better, but this change took about $150 off our previous best rate. The issue isn't the separate pickup and dropoff from what I could tell as I split the reservation and dropped off at MCO on day 2 and did a new reservation for the last 6 days and still was over $400 for any option on car or van.

I noticed a fairly big drop in the Hotwire rates a few days; I had a Budget rental for 1/16 to 1/24 on a midsize for $ 363; I tried some bids on Priceline a few days ago between $ 10 and $ 16 and nothing was accepted; then I noticed rates were dropping with the car rental companies; my Budget rental dopped to $ 257, but I now have a reservation with Dollar at $232 for the same size car; it seems the most signficant drops were for the compact through intermediate (mid-size) cars; still hoping to get a lower rate and/or get a standard or full size trip.

I noticed for our dates Alamo took another drop late last night using the walmart codes. I knocked another $15 off the rental. I'm hovering at about $200 now.

Good to see the rates coming down!

We noticed a big drop in our November Alamo rates a couple of weeks ago. Book those low while you can. Our rates have since doubled from their lowest point, it happened in one day.

They drive me crazy with their pricing! We need an SUV for 8 days - Alamo was quoting $565 p/u and drop off at MCO. As we're staying at the BWV, I priced picking it up at the Dolphin the day after we arrive (using DME to get to the resort) and dropping off at MCO. The price dropped to $259, and that includes a free additional driver. Hard to believe half a day, and a switch in location can result in such savings!

Thank you! I am not traveling until April, but last week it was $330 for a compact! Today it was $248 for a compact. Still high, but much better.

:cool1:thanks! I went back to Alamo and checked, the rates for a compact for 2 weeks dropped from 445. with fees to 337.00 with fees! excellent!

Can anyone share what codes they are using? Using the walmart code from Mousesavers, my 1/22-1/29 minivan rental is unchanged. It may even be higher than before. :confused3

The rate I posted for Dollar for mid-size at $232.00 for 8 day rental was signficantly lower than rates I had been checking before this week. However, the rate for next car size above a mid-sized car was over $ 500.00. I tried the OOAG Code, but I believe the price was lower without the code using the City Special which was listed on the quotes Dollar gave without a code. Most of the codes I have seen on Mousesavers for the various companies do not yet extend into January. I am hoping the rates drop for the larger vehicles as I would like to change to a standard or full-size car.

Thanks, taliategan. I am really hoping rates come down for minivans. Right now I have a reservation with Thrifty for $370, and rates just seem to be going up, up, up!
