FYI for the YC/BCV peeps... a short-notice refurb for the Stormalong Bay SLIDE only:

Starting in February 2021, the Stormalong Bay waterslide will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, Stormalong Bay and the other 3 pools at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will remain open.

Before long, the Stormalong Bay waterslide will be back with its treasured 230-foot-long plunge that begins on the mast of a pirate shipwreck.

It doesn't say when it will open again! How long did Boardwalk take?

Man, feels like whack a mole for resorts trying to plan a trip in the next month. Wilderness Lodge, Poly, CR, now BCV? I get they want to get it all spiffy for the 50th anniversary, but would be nice if staggered the renovations a bit instead of everything at once.

Kind of wouldn’t have chosen Yacht Club for late March had I known this When I booked in Jan, Will likely cancel. And just in time for no availability at Boardwalk. Excellent management, Disney, May as well just ask us to not come.

I’m surprised (and sad) that they’d close it with spring break coming. Seems like January/February would’ve been better. Maybe it’ll be a quick refurb??

I asked in chat. For what it's worth:

"Thank you so much for your patience. Walt Disney World anticipates a reopen in March 2021, however, an exact date has not yet been announced at this time. "
Thank goodness! We have BCV reservations for Easter week.

I apologize for the negativity but I think these last minute pool closures are just terrible. My kids would be so sad:(
The pool won't be closed, just the slide. I know it stinks, but refurbishments are necessary to keep these resorts nice.

I called and was told they "expect the waterslide to be open in April." Stormanlong Bay is the main reason we chose Yacht over Boardwalk, so I will be very disappointed if the waterslide is closed during our mid-April trip.

Absolutely! I just think the guests should be given more warning so they are better able to adjust their plans if they wish.
I agree with that. Giving a month's notice doesn't seem like a lot. But I think Disney hasn't historically given a ton of notice on any refurbishments. Which is why they include language stating that some amenities may be unavailable. I think they try to limit these sorts of things to the offseason, which is why they are doing it in February and March. No matter when they do it there are going to be unhappy guests. All that said, I would be annoyed if the slide was closed during my stay. I wouldn't be annoyed enough to cancel my reservation, but it would be mildly annoying for sure.

Easter week is one of the busiest weeks of the year. And then Beach Club is opening to the public at the end of May. So my guess is that Disney will make sure the refurbishment is complete by April. We are going for Easter week and I am not concerned at all about the slide not being open.

What especially perturbs me is that the only reason I chose Yacht Club when I booked for March just in January was the slide. Even with the 35% off offer, it still ran well into the 500s incl tax. I am thankful that we are still 30 days out so I can cancel without penalty, which I will.

Same here.

Keep in mind that the beach club hotel side is slated to reopen at the end of May, so there is incentive to finish any work that involves closing amenities prior to then.

To be fair to Disney, not all these refurbishments can be planned out. For example, what if the maintenance team just recently discovered an issue with the slide? They would want to have that fixed before Easter and definitely before Beach Club opens to the public in May. Sometimes issues that require a refurbishment arise unexpectedly. I am not going to rail against Disney for stuff like this...these things happen.
