So.....I hesitated. We're going in August, but wasn't 100% sure husband would get the right vacation time, etc. So when SW opened their August dates, I looked at the prices but was afraid to book. Since then, I've been watching prices go up and up. The last couple weeks, the flights I've been looking at were $122 to fly down, $193 to fly home!!!!! This is from Providence. Crazy!!!

Well, this morning I logged on to check, expecting to see the same prices as usual. Nope! $109 each way! Asked husband, still afraid that things aren't definite, but "yep, go ahead". So we booked for less than $900 for all four of us. Went back in and the flights are now at $122 each way. Still a good deal, but $109 is even better! Very happy today!

Very Nice!:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Congrats!! I snagged a $109 price from New Orleans to MCO the other day for our way down in October. I just couldn't pass it up. Our return date isnt available yet....the wait continues...

We are having a TERRIBLE time getting air from CA!
The CA prices are outrageous these days. I've been pricing flights from KY to SoCal since last fall in anticipation of planning a trip to DL, and the point price has almost doubled! I'm booked KY to SNA in July and am watching the prices to see if they drop. So far they've dropped a little on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but my Thursday and Friday prices have stayed the exact same for months.

ETA: Glad that OP and others are finding good deals. At least someone is saving.

Oh, I gotcha there! I was reading on the Disboards the other day about how to get into FL. So this morning I booked SFO to Tampa and then coming home MCO to SFO. Including rental car it saved us over $500 over going into MCO.

Let me suggest that you try LAX. Are you renting a car?

The prices through LAX were actually a little higher so I stuck with the most convenient choice. Thanks for the rental car tip, I'm going to take a look at that and see if would make a difference. However, since I booked with points and all our tix had to be purchased separately, it might not help me. It's worth checking into though so thanks again.

ETA: Adding the rental car didn't help me at all. The minivan would have been about $50 more than what I've priced so far and the flights were also exactly the same. Glad it helped you though.

I just snagged two round trip tickets from Norfolk to Orlando for $414!! Southwest rocks, last year I paid $550 Nd they went down by $100 so they gave me the credit. If you think it's a great rate I'd book it and keep am eye for even lower prices :)

Back when SW opened up their last bout of rates, I too was trying to get from either Dayton or Columbus to Fort Lauderdale (we are cruisers). My date was August 29. I had somewhat forgotten that this was a holiday weekend. (Labor day weekend). The rates first round were very high and with 5 people, I had rented a vehicle and we were going to drive if necessary to FLL. I waited about 3 weeks after they opened up more dates and snagged 1-way tickets from CMH (Columbus) to MCO for $130 each on 8/28 instead of 8/29. I was very happy. The tickets 5 total was $650, the van rental was around $450 (1 way drop, more expensive) plus gas we would have spent $650+ (not to mention food stops). To make it clear, I had already purchased our return trip flight and I never book them as RT tickets. I always do 1-way tickets in both directions.

I then snagged a van rental for 1 day to get us from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale using points. We are spending the night at the Hilton Orlando on points so it all worked out. I just added another day to my vacation! : )

You have to be very diligent with SW and keep watching everyday a few times each day. It really paid off for us!

Congratulations to the OP!:p

Just totally out of curiosity, why do you only do one-way tickets and not round trip? Is there an advantage to this that I don't know about? I always do round trip, never thought to do it another way! Glad your planning worked out!

@momtoAidenandEli - I have found that many times booking one way is cheaper than a RT ticket. As far as when I buy airfare for our cruises, I always book the return home first because those tickets get picked over and the prices jump way up on what's left. I know what time I can get off the ship, so I already know what time I can start looking for a return trip home.

Also, on a 1 way ticket, it's much easier to make changes whether it's a date or a time change, it's always easier if you have to call and tell them you need to make a change to a 1 way ticket.

If you buy a RT ticket and decide not to use the first leg of the ticket, the airlines will automatically cancel your second leg. Example: let's say you are going to Disney via airplane. Somehow you end up in Orlando via another route BUT you still have the portion of the ticket back home that's not used yet. Once the original flight has come and gone and you and your family aren't accounted for, the airlines automatically cancels your flight back home. (I hope that made sense, I typed it really fast..LOL)

A price drop is also easier on SW on a 1 way ticket. I've gotten several of those in the years past.

Some people prefer RT, I never book it that way. I've found the 1 ways always make things easier and they've never cost me more. Last year we were going on a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale (my favorite port). I had purchased our return flights for that Sunday but couldn't find any decent prices going down on any airline. Once again, I had a vehicle rented. About 3 weeks out, I sat down one day to a travel site and threw my date in and 4 tickets that I needed. Amazingly enough, I got 4 1-way tickets on United Airlines for $89 each. CHAAACHINNNNG....!!

SWA is going to fly into the sunset in June from JAN, so will be flying out of MSY June 6th for the first time.

SW prices have been like a roller coaster lately. You just have to catch them at the right time. We fly out of Baltimore, and are taking a trip out to DL this summer. The flight HAS to be non-stop and the rates were expensive !!! Finally bit the bullet at $253. PP each way .............not happy about it, but it is what it is. Started checking around for alternatives .............then found some non-stops to Vegas at times that would work for us for $133. PP each way. We took that instead. With the extra travel funds, we had enough left over to cover a quick trip to WDW at $109. PP each way. So for the price of the original flight, we now have 2 trips out of it for a little less $$$ !!!
Lovin Southwest !

I do this too! For me I pay cash so I like to split the cost up :) one way now and the return later :)

on the computer at the right time (with the stars and planets in the right order!)

We planned a trip to Las Vegas about a month ago--(we went 4-11 to 4-14)

so the air was on the high side--but we really needed to get away so I booked it

the wanna get away fares were gone going out so I booked anytime for $508 PP:confused3
however coming home I was able to get the WGAF which was $248PP much better

so about a week before we went I happened to get an extra day off so I was on the computer I like to see how the rates are going

to my surprise there were WGAF!!! for $248 so I called right away and since the anytime fares are refundable so I got a refund to the CC!!!

after I got off the phone I checked again and those fares were gone again!!!

for once I was at the right place at the right time:cool1:
